Love … Love this coffee shop. Friendly conversations. Had the honey and cream latte, delicious.

Came in here because they had great Unilocal reviews and Unilocalers did not mislead me. The owners are a couple of brothers and they were so friendly. The latte they made me was incredible. I wanted to try a breakfast burrito but they had just sold out (so they must be good!). I will be coming back to have another coffee and try to catch one of their burritos (he said they are made next door at Fig good Food).

Checked out this great little coffee house last Saturday. Owner is very friendly and engaging. Atmosphere is like something out of the past. Music and literary artwork on walls is way cool! Such a great addition to Atascadero! Great coffee, by the way (Joebella).

A real gem in Atascadero! The owners know their coffee, that’s for sure! I ordered 4 shots of espresso and they were expertly pulled by Nick, one of the creamiest cups I’ve had. My hubby ordered a cappuccino and it was crafted beautifully. Nick is definitely a coffe artisan! Great vibe, colorful conversations, and friendly staff. The prices are great too! Will definitely be stopping at Socrates any time we come through the area. Definitely recommend!

Great coffee house. The owners are incredibly friendly and make you feel very welcome. And they take pride in their craft! The Turkish Coffee is out of this world and so are the pastries. I enjoy the 60s/​70s folk music ambiance, which comes to life just about every Thursday night with their live concerts. The concerts are free and are wonderful.
This coffee shop will take you back to a different time. Skip Starbucks. This place is infinitely better.
Tip: Try the breakfast burrito! It’s terrific.

Well Socrates is such a welcome addition to our town. Yep the coffee is great, Yep the conversation is wonderful, yep the staff remembers you, the seating is good, and the place has a clean shine to it. A nice small selection of pastries is an asset for sure.
There is really good live folk music (mini concerts) periodically, check the chalk board or give them a buzz.
There are poetry readings on some nights and well, just all around good things for our town.

Love this little coffee house! Wonderful owners, excellent coffee (cappuccino is my favorite), unique music selections, good conversation, and thoughtful memorabilia of the early folk music scene happening in Southern California late 60’s, early 70’s. I’ve been to a few live music and poetry performances there and the quality is unsurpassed.
Oh, and do try the breakfast burrito, it’s good!

This is a great café with a wonderful atmosphere. Loved the music memorabilia and the pineapple upside down cake. The owner/​server was very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to going back for some tea or hot chocolate.

Today, me and a couple friends stumbled upon this coffee house. I really liked the atmosphere… great décor and super friendly service. We stayed a couple hours and noticed that the owner enjoyed all of his customers. People were having great conversations and didn’t have there faces buried in a laptop. I will have to check them out one evening for there live music.

Right next door to the Carlton Hotel, so very convenient (since the hotel breakfast leaves a lot to be desired). Very good lattes and cappuccinos. Small selection of muffins and scones. Service can be a little slow but very friendly. Worth a stop!

We stopped here for coffee after having dinner in a restaurant downtown. The small coffee place is very cute and cozy. The owner was very nice and welcoming! We had a latte, good coffee, very homemade experience. The owner invited us to come later in the evening for free live music! We decided to come back later and see what was going on there at night. They had a nice small crowd, and live musicians (a total of three). They performed original songs, and covers and it was very fun. They do that every Thursday night at 7pm, having different musicians featured during their concert season. They not only have coffee, but also, hot chocolate, ice cream and… Alcohol! It is not a great variety of beers but, if you like having a beer while listening to live free music on a Thursday night, you can!

Awesome place! Great coffee and the owner is so nice. You can see the great care in everything they do from making excellent coffee to the little gold spoons it’s served with. By the way their sandwiches are simply amazing!

Great coffee, live music, POETRY readings. Mike and Nick (the owners) are wonderful. I only wish the chairs outside didn’t have arms so I could sit outside, sip my coffee and play guitar…

I enjoyed my time at Socrates Coffee House. I was passing through during a vacation to CA. The owners were friendly and welcoming. I told them that I am not much of a coffee drinker, and they brought forward a selection of teas for me to sample. The selections were different than normal brand teas, and I found them to be quite delightful. I will definitely be back for more tea. Be sure to ask about their toast, you can even get a piece with Bob Dylan’s face on it! They also have a selection of scones and other food items, they looked delicious, and I will certainly have one next time I am there.
The atmosphere in Socrates Coffee House is a pleasant blast from the past with modern touches. The music and literary memorabilia on the walls have something to keep all ages entertained. The owner had a book of poems which he wrote, I took the time to read a few of them, and I was impressed. I hope he has a poetry reading sometime, his poems were quite good! I was told they also have music a few nights a week, which in my opinion fits perfectly with the vibe I was receiving at the Coffee House.
When I asked about WiFi, they told me that they do not have that at Socrates. I respect that, plus it’s nice to get away from computers and cell phones for a while. There are plenty of other places to get Wifi, but not many places where you can sit with coffee or tea, discuss music, poetry, or what’s going on in life with people face to face. I have read the other post pertaining to Wifi. That post was written by someone who is obviously glued to their phone or computer ²⁴⁄₇. Maybe they should take that time to learn how to spell «customer» correctly, «costumer» is not how it’s spelled. Maybe it’s spelled that way on the Internet, but not in books, maybe they should read one sometime.
All in all, a great experience that allows customers to forget about their busy lives for a few minutes, and enjoy the simple things in life with coffee, tea, poetry, intellectual conversations, and music.

Super friendly owner, and they totally personalize your drink. They also take time to chat and learn your name. Loved my decaf vanilla latte. Support this new business!

Just what Atascadero needed in the coming-​alive downtown… a cool coffee house with Joebella coffee and friendly vibes! Their baked goods are fresh the the best bakery… Hush Harbor. There’s even a free concert tomorrow, 6/​4great beer too!

We stopped by here a few mornings after they opened. The coffee was solid, the pastries were great and the owners were friendly and helpful. Since they had just opened the business they said they had a few kinks to work out, but it all seemed great to us, and I’m sure it’ll just get better. I got an espresso doctored with cream and cinnamon so I can’t say exactly how good the espresso would have been straight up.
