I really wanted to like this place but I sat and watched the guy making my food. He was sweating profusely and I watched as the sweat dripped off of his forehead into my food. No thanks. I won’t go back.

Scotty’s BBQ went above and beyond for the Marines of 6thANGLICO during our warrior night. We requested a quote for 140 meals and Chrissy gave us a really fair price. Furthermore she delivered them and lent us her personal coolers so our food could stay warm! Who does that anymore? The chicken was super tasty and the portions were ginormous. We recommend any military unit to utilize their catering aboard Camp Roberts and we hope to get the opportunity to eat at the restaurant. Thanks to Scottys for making a great night for the Marines of 6th Anglico!

We have been looking for a BBQ worth frequenting and have come up short until we discovered Scotty’s. This is truly the best BBQ in the north county. We bought a rack to go for ourselves and another for my daughter and her family. We were amazed at how perfectly the ribs were cooked. They were most and uniquely flavorful. My daughter and her family agreed. They also had the beans which they liked. We tried the Macaroni and Potato Salads which were both good.

We had about 80 family members arrive from out of town from both sides of the family, we had rented a large house to host a family gathering right before our wedding and had Scotty’s bbq cater dinner for us. Scotty’s had quoted a very reasonable price approx $ 15 – 20 a head for the catered meal, and included delivery and setup. The crew was friendly, prompt, and made provided more supplies than we had needed. We had Tri Tip, BBQ Ribs, Beans, Garlic Rolls, and Corn — the food was a was a hit with everyone! The amount of food that they had brought us was enough to feed our hungry families and ALOT more. Most folks had eaten seconds(or thirds) and there was still enough food to feed another 15 – 20 folks! If I’m ever in this part of town again, I definitely plan on having a meal at Scotty’s!

So we finally got to try Scotty’s BBQ, which is crazy cause I live practically around the corner from it. Now I know we haven’t been missing out on much. I have no idea how this place gets so many 5-star reviews. It’s way overpriced, mediocre BBQ. Since we live right down the road and have a new born, we decided to order the food for take-out. We wanted to get one tri-tip sandwich and one pork rib plate but unfortunately they were out of ribs by the time we called so late in the evening…5:45! What?! So we decided to get two tri-tip sandwiches and three sides, two coleslaws and one side of beans. I will say that the meat was very good, but it was probably the smallest tri-tip sandwich I have ever had, at $ 10.75! The coleslaw tasted like what you get at the deli of a grocery store and the beans tasted like canned beans with chunks of tri-tip added, both were forgettable. For two sandwiches and three small sides it cost us over $ 32.00. If the food was great I may be able to justify spending that but definitely not for what we got. Unfortunately we will not be trying Scotty’s for a second time.

Excellent. We had the beef ribs for lunch and it was great. Beef ribs are hard to do and these guys are great at it. Friendly place as well. I’ll be back.

We’ve eaten here many times since they first opened up and the ribs and tri-tip are always good. One warning: these are dry rub style so if you like your ribs dripping in sauce, you’ll have to add that yourself. There are containers of BBQ sauce on the tables if you are so inclined. I don’t recommend the potato salad, though. The potatoes are undercooked, there is no seasoning, too much mayonnaise and not enough pickles. Get the ranch beans and some garlic bread instead! Oh, and check out the collection of cowboy hats decorating the walls for a smile.

Momma and I had our first dinner at Scotty’s last night. It was VERY good. She had the pork ribs which were perhaps not as tender as some I’ve had(of course I tried them, are you kidding?) but they were exceedingly tasty and juicy. It’s a delicate balance to get the meat cooked through, while keeping it juicy and flavorful. I’m not sure where Scotty gets his meat but it very nice. The 4 ribs were large and very meaty. He uses what appears to be a very spare dry rub(not much color) and you add your own sauce at the table. The meat flavor comes through great. I like me ribs this way. Momma likes hers with the sauce all carmelized on the ribs but I didn’t hear any complaints and that means a lot. The sides were beans and cole slaw. Beans were very good with big chunks of what appeared to be tri tip. Yum. Cole slaw had a great texture and not too much«sauce», not too sweet so you could still get a lot of the flavors. Oh yeah, the bread — very nice. I had the pulled pork sandwich. Huge pile of wonderful porkiness with enough BBQ sauce on it to hold it together but not roll down your arm. Add more at the table if you want to doll up your shirt sleeves. I had the previously mentioned cole slaw in the sandwich the way it’s supposed to be. Great roll too. The crunchy pickly spear made it a full meal. Scotty was at a another table doing the books so we introduced ourselves. Very nice man and clearly proud of his product. Nice staff. Everyone was concened that we enjoy our meal and we did. Clean eating area, clean restroom. Nice napkins. Might sound stupid about the napkins but have you ever eaten BBQ with a thin unsubstantial napkin? Don’t do it man. Not unless you are wearing a BBQ sauce colored shirt. . We’ll be back.

Going inside, the picnic table setting and country music was a little too close to home for this Nebraska native. I got the tri tip and chicken plate and my fiancé got the tri tip sandwich. We both agreed that the meat was delicious: perfectly cooked, smokey, tender, and a great BBQ sauce to go with. The sides and bread were nothing special; potato salad with large chunks and cole slaw were both bland. But hey, we came for the BBQ.

My husband and I came here for dinner. My husband had a Tri tip sandwich. He said it was good. I had a half chicken plate. The chicken was tender and delicious. The garlic bread was very good and I loved the ranch style beans. I wasn’t crazy about the potato salad but my husband liked it so I let him eat it. They gave us free cookies for customer appreciation night… yummy.

Scotty’s BBQ is the best BBQ in Atascadero! Scotty and the crew are awesome. The décor is country casual, with plenty of seating. They have great catering options too.

We decided to give Scotty’s another try with my husband and his family who was visiting from Oregon. I got the tri tip sandwich(meat cooked well this time like I asked for… SCORE!) with the potato salad and he got the tri tip sandwich with beans. Meat was good, tender, and mostly lean. The bread was nice and soft. Potato salad lacked flavor and was too mayonnaise-y for my liking. I felt like it needed mustard, salt, dill pickle… something to give it that extra tang I enjoy having with my BBQ. The gal who took our order was friendly and even came by and asked if we needed anything.

«A last minute emergency with one of our caterers left us with a bit of a problem on our hands. Luckily we were referred to Scotty’s BBQ and the day was saved! Scotty, we can’t thank you enough for stepping up and making the lunch at Tablas Creek happen for our guests on such short notice. Our client LOVED the food! He was a huge fan of the tri-tip and received positive feedback from the rest of the group as well. As Texans, this group knows good BBQ, and Scotty’s did not disappoint. We certainly look forward to using Scotty’s BBQ in the near future. –The Breakaway Tours Team»

Decent barbecue spot. The dinner plates are very large portions. I ordered the tritip plate and my husband had the rib plate. Both were very good and very filling. My only complaint is I wish there had been a few more side options, like maybe mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese or corn bread. But we obviously survived without extra calories! Ha! The kids meal meat portions(pulled pork) were huge for our kids(6 and under) so next time we would most likely have them share. But for older kids it’s probably great because they actually get enough food! Again with the lack of sides, but my kids were excited to get Doritos even if I wasn’t happy they did. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean, and it was nicely decorated with some western flare. The staff was courteous and attentive.

I was finally able to try tis place out, it seemed that every time I was hungry and wanted to try this place, it was closed. I finally went in yesterday and got the 2 meat plate with tri-tip and ribs. It was amazing, the meat fell right off the bone on the ribs, the sauce was very tasty and the tri-tip wasn’t over cooked or tough. I am actually writing this review waiting for it to open today so I can go back.

We had Scotty’s cater a small dinner party(14 people) at a winery near Paso Robles. We called several caterers and restaurants and Scotty’s was the only one that responded within a reasonable amount of time with a complete menu and pricing based on our specs. Their prices were spot on for a typical Santa Maria BBQ so we booked it. Because the winery did not have kitchen facilities. timing of the food’s arrival was critical. We asked the food to be delivered at 715. Scotty himself arrived at 714 and the food was PERFECT. The tri tip was not overdone. Chicken was fully cooked and the rest of the meal was equally great. I cannot say enough about their catering and have equally positive things to say about the food in the restaurant. I highly recommend Scottys for great BBQ!!!

My husband and I got the pulled pork sandwich. I thought the pork was dry which was quite an accomplishment since it was pretty smothered in barbecue sauce. I got coleslaw on top which was OK. I’d rather travel down to Mo’s in SLO to get barbecue if I’m going to pay that much for food.
