Cool little place on Hwy 41 going to Morro Bay. Unique memorabilia and fun cut outs to take your picture with. The owner is very friendly and the place has a great atmosphere, unless your an uptight, stuffed shirt. Tanner entertained us with some original music and took photos for us. I don’t know about the food because we only had wine which was great.

You been Warned… this is the worst BBQ you will ever eat completely microwaved ask to look in the kitchen all they have is a microwave. The only positive reviews are their drunk cronies that hang out at the bar. If you really think this is good BBQ you really do not have a clue… I have eaten BBQ all across the United States I know good BBQ in this does not even come close to bad BBQ it is horrible.

Went there because it seemed like a cool unique place to stop. Fell way short of expectations… I suggest you stop, take a few pics, ANDDONOTEATTHERE. The waiter/owner was nice and friendly(thumbs up for that). Right after you order they’ll suggest you walk and look around. Big cover up for you not to hear the microwaves, not once did we hear a grill or smelled any food cooking. ALLMICROWAVEDFOOD! My boyfriend had the ribs, they were okay, had a nice smoked tasted to it– nothing special. I ordered a clam chowder, it tasted just like the Progresso canned kind. I swear it was. Baked potato and Onion rings were bland and over priced. They over charged us and we left unhappy and hungry, ended up eating somewhere else.

If you don’t like this place, then go somewhere else. That will make more room for the rest of us. This place is the real deal, back woods, bar-be-que, beer garden, live music, super cool owner and friends. Well worth a very long drive through a thunderstorm to get here.

Horrible, more like the last time I’ll ever stop there. Put three little veggies on my combo plate. Salsa is bland. Bbq sauce tastes like ketchup with salt. The ribs had a nice smoke to them but severely lacked flavoring. Tri tip was bland and chicken was over cooked. A 3 item combo plate is 20 bucks and does not come with any sides or a drink. When I stop and order bbq the last noise I want to hear is a microwave warming up a portion of my food. No matter which direction your headed don’t make this your last stage keep heading west!

Wow, what a gem this place is! We’ve only had the ribs the 3 times we’ve come here because they were just too good not to order on the subsequent visits! They don’t even need BBQ sauce they’re so amazing. This place has a lot of funk and historical photos adorning its walls but what makes it so much fun is the live music during week days. BangerDan is so much fun. He even takes requests from our kids. Although he hasn’t been able to fill the request of Foofighters or MJ, he strums some great classics. And last but not least, Tom is such a wonderful cook and host. Local beers on tap are a bonus too. This is definitely our new local fav!

I ate here a month ago and the food was delicious. The owner makes all of his own pies, smoked ribs, bbq sauce. Everything! If you’re in morro bay or just driving through you must make this a dinner or lunch stop. I bought some of his bbq sauce and use it instead of my sweet baby rays on everything. I. need more!

Best ribs I’ve EVER had and great service in a very serene part of the country. I always stop by when I’m passing through. The owner Tom is a great guy who goes all out to make sure his customers have a great experience. 5 stars!

Found this place using Unilocal. We stayed in Atascadero to do some wine tasting in Paso Robles. If you are looking for a swanky BBQ joint or restaurant, this is not for you. If you are looking for a stop on the highway to get some smoked BBQ, them this is your place. You get served and waited on by the owner. He’s the cook, too. Takes some time, but it’s good food. It’s a little $$ for BBQ and the simple food, but it’s really good and worth it. The restaurant patio is very«backyard» like. We were welcomed by some of the neighbors dogs while we visited the koi pond. Inside was live show with a man playing his guitar and singing classics like«the wrangler», Johnny cash tunes, and other classic rock/country tunes. Nothing but humble vibes from this place. Get the baby back ribs! I’ll say it it again, GETTHEBABYBACKRIBS. They have local beers on tap and they are ice cold. We finished with a piece of blackberry pie.

Place was empty and set up like a dump. Prices were sky high for a place boasting wall mart chairs and tables. Then the crappy music started and we moved«outside»… Well«outside» was a dingy back yard that smelled like cigarettes. We left out menus on a bench and took off. After reading all of these negative reviews I’m glad we didn’t order anything — we got lucky with the escape.

Stopped by this gem for a Saturday night BBQ dinner and were not disappointed. The band was a no-show, but the familiar atmosphere, tasty food, friendly patrons and dedicated owner all made up for it in spades. Can’t wait to come back and hang in the backyard patio.

I gave this 5 stars because it was my type of place. It is not your white linen stuffy waiter type of place. We were immediately welcomed by the solo banjo player who informed us our waiter was also the cook and we sat ourselves. The décor is kind of old west but our cook/waiter was in tye dye. The service was a little slow which we didn’t mind because we were entertained by the banjo player. Our food was great. We ordered the rib eye that was big enough to share with to die for garlic fries. I wouldn’t go there if I was in a hurry but if you want good food. A friendly atmosphere and some entertainment it’s a fun choice. Oh and the pie was great.

I would give this place 5 stars if it weren’t for the issues I discuss at the end of this review. This place stands apart for several reasons: It’s in the middle of nowhere between Atascadero and Morro Bay, the owner is a vey nice guy and really makes you feel welcome, the BBQ’ed food is delicious, they have some good beers on tap, and the ambiance is barn-like rustic. Yet they host some good bands, apparently, based on other reviews and their online event calendar. We went there tonight(Saturday) because we wanted to escape the 4th of July weekend tourist hordes that had overrun our Morro Bay home, and well as San Luis, Paso Robles, etc., and we felt we had earned a decadent rib, steak, BBQ chicken, onion rings, fries, and chili bean dinner. We were not disappointed. All the items mentioned, plus beer, for two, was about $ 55 including tip. I would have been more comfortable if we weren’t virtually the ONLY diners(often the case for us here; we have come to consider it our private dining room). Also on this night, the solo performer was truly horrific – couldn’t play the guitar or sing. In an unintended sense he was amusing, so we tolerated him well enough. We will definitely be back on about a once-every-two-months basis.

I’m a sucker for local owned establishments with great atmosphere and I really loved how welcome I felt while eating here, almost like I was at a good friends house. The food was great, borderline amazing. How can you say no to ribs that fall off the bone with barely any effort. Definitely try the ribs. Staff was amazing which is always my 5th star and the service was top notch. My favorite part of the evening was easily the pie. Apparently Tom, the owner, is quite the baker and all I can say is, get the pie. I seriously will be dreaming about that pie. Unfreakinginsanelyomggood. It was like a Cinnabun on steroids on top of a graham cracker pie crust. Insanity on a plate. I will dream about that pie. Sigh. Anyways, I really loved the experience here, with no exceptions. I’ve read the other reviews and I really think this one will have to be a case by case. I really can’t argue though. I’ll be back for sure.

If you’re looking for some good live music, you should first check the website, make sure there’s a band of the genre you enjoy and then go with a group. Good beer prices, decent BBQ, but that’s about it in terms of food and drink. Again, it’s really about who’s playing. If it’s not a genre you enjoy, don’t bother.

It’s been a few weeks but I wanted to not forget a place like this. Checked out this place June 1st and it’ll be a memorable visit for sure. The baby back pork ribs were no joke cooked to perfection. I can’t recall having better ribs elsewhere. Tender, moist and fell right off the bone. It’d be the first ribs that you’d want to eat it dry because it doesn’t need to be masked with BBQ sauce once its in front of you. The ambiance is rich in history with historical photos of Atascadero along the walls. The waiter was definitely more friendly than I’ve ever met elsewhere. The waiter won me over on trying a piece of their homemade pies. The couple, I believe who owns this place, play live music and stream it online. Definitely a unique place to stop by. I tried to check-in while visiting but this place is way out in the middle of nowhere

For those of you reading this from your phone, if you happen to use your GPS through Google Navigation and it guides you to an empty spot on HWY41, this location is about 2 more miles west at the cross street of Toro Creek Rd. It was Monday evening when I walked into this place and it was empty. The owner greeted me with a smile and I sat at the bar. After reading the menu, I had to decide between the babyback ribs and the ribeye. Since I hadn’t had a steak in a while, I opted for the ribeye, sauteed mushrooms, and steak-fries. The one-inch thick steak arrived and it was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The meat was tender and juicy to my pleasant surprise(I later learned he dry-ages his steaks). The steak was seasoned just right with a nice outer crust. You wouldn’t think you would receive a quality steak from a place on the side of the road but it was a pleasant surprise. The owner even gave me complimentary rib just so I could taste his specialty; the rib meat was falling of the bone tender with a delicious spice-rub. If you’re traveling up or down the coast, or visiting Hearst Castle, take the time to find this place. The ambiance is very unique that surprisingly serves quality meat at a reasonable price. It’s a one-man operation in the kitchen so have patience. Don’t be in a rush and enjoy the surroundings; your tastebuds will thank you for it.
