I purchased a Groupon which said it was a Cuban restaurant, when in fact it was actually a Peruvian place. The food was ok but way over priced and the service was not great either.

Worst service ever! Loud music! Their sign says AHOLA instead of ALOHA! Lolol And the prices on the«computer» are higher than the prices on the menu! They refuse to acknowledge the price difference! The food is decent if you can get service!!! Not worth the hassle! Go to Latin Cabana!

I like the food here but I cannot lie I be had my share. Of bad meals but I never go wrong ordering ropa veja(shredded beef). They deliver pretty fast and have lunch specials during the day. I’d recommend them…

Will give a zero rating if Unilocal can allow it… Made 6pm dinner reservation for a table of 7 today and invited my sister from Long Island. They even asked our name and cell phone number. We are looking forward for sangria and a nice dinner. Eventhough it was pouring heavy, we arrived on time but found out that the restaurant was fully booked for a party event until 8pm. The hostess told us that they could not accommodate us. She did not even apologize. My sister was so mad since she traveled quite a long distance for this dinner. They did not even call to inform us. We(a group of 7) had to find another restaurant for dinner in heavy rain! Will NEVER visit this restaurant!!!

We are looking for a place to get Peruvian food that is relatively easy to get to from where we live on Roosevelt Island. Sitio Samba Sabor is easy to get to via the Q102, I called and made sure they had a bar(they did!), we purchased the Groupon deal online($ 40 for $ 80) and we headed over. The atmosphere is nice enough and the waitstaff is friendly. Our waitress seemed new(she had to check on a number of questions), so I was a bit concerned when she didn’t know what a Pisco Sour was or if they had Cusqueña and she didn’t think they had Chicha Morada available. Fortunately they did. The Pisco Sour was well done, the Cusqueña was cold and my wife reports that the chicha morada was fine but not the best(my abuelita ruined her last time we were in Peru). They also made a fresh pineapple juice for my youngest son. So far so good. We ordered Papa A La Huancaina, Lomo Saltado(x3) and Picanha Grelhada. The Papa A La Huancaina was OK. I expected the creamy sauce to be more spicy. My oldest son reports that the Picanha Grelhada was OK also. He says it was neither outstanding nor bad. My wife and I were disappointed by the Lomo Saltado. The meat didn’t seem fresh and was a bit tough. I would bet the potatoes were previously frozen. It might be a matter of taste, but I think the dish could have had more cilantro, some additional spice(I felt I had to add a lot of salt to the dish), and the onions could have been cooked more as well. We asked for some aji to help with the flavor as well and it was good. The rice was really good. My mother is Peruvian and I grew up eating Lomo Saltado on a weekly basis. It is my «go to» meal when I visit a new Peruvian restaurant and it is the yardstick that I measure each against. This place fell short this evening. I will not say that we will not try Sitio Samba Sabor again, but they have some very good competition in the city.

Our group dined here on a Sataurday night. The establishment was not busy when we arrived. It seemed like a cozy little place with dimmed lights. We ordered the jalea, chicken and beans combination with lomo saltado. The jalea and lomo saltado were great. The chicken was too dry and the beans needed to be heated up. We had to request for dressing and sauces which should have came along with the meal. Overall, the food is not bad here, although the service can be better. Restaurant prices according to its portions are very reasonable. The staff along with the owner were friendly and met our accommodations.

After purchasing a Groupon deal($ 40 for $ 80), we came here with a couple of friends. The place is nice and cozy with dimmed lights and offers a fusion of Latin American Cuisines. Upon entering we noticed that all the tables had reserved marked on them and there was just one party sitting in the back. The waitress immediately said that their reserved for the night, then a after speaking with the manager/owner, she came back and said she can accommodate us. We all checked into Unilocal and noticed that we can get a complimentary Sangria for checking in. However, after taking our order the waitress came back and informed us that we actually cannot get the complimentary drinks if we’re using the Groupon(which I guess is valid since you can’t combine any other offers with Groupon). Anyhow, we still ordered a glass of Sangria, The small Jalea($ 21 and enough to feed 4), Chicken Combo($ 19 came with a whole chicken, rice, beans, fries and an avocado salad) and Lomo Saltado($ 13 each). — Jalea: Huge portion of delicious, fried seafood mixture. Calamari, fish, shrimp, mussel and Yucca topped with a delicious red onion salad(salsa criollo). This was definitely a winner for us! Thank God the waitress informed us to get the smaller portion(which was actually huge), be careful since the menu only lists Jalea at $ 31, which is the Bigger portion. Only complaint is that I would like it to be crispier. 4⁄5 — Lomo Saltado: My husband and I are huge fans of this dish! The portion sizes here are really big, compared to all other restaurants. The dish was deliciously prepared the way It should be and we were satisfied.(If you like spicy then ask for the Peruvian chili peppers on the side). 4⁄5 — Chicken Combo: Our friends ordered this dish. The Chicken was completely dry and did not look appetizing. The beans were cold and needed to be heated up, and the salad did not come with dressing which we had to ask for twice. 3⁄5 — Sangria: Be sure to order this! Delicious and strong! 5⁄5 — Service: Though the staff were friendly and accommodating, throughout our dinner, they didn’t come to check anything or ask for refills on water/drinks. We also had a glass of water on our table with lipstick marks on it and neither my friend nor I was wearing lipstick that night… hmmmm. Also, we had to hunt down the staff to ask for our bill, which was a bit annoying considering that the restaurant was not packed and the tables marked reserved were empty. 3⁄5 Bottom Line: if you purchase a Groupon Deal for this place it’s definitely worth checking out. The prices definitely do justice to the food portion sizes here. I’d highly recommend the sangria, Jalea and Lomo Saltado dishes. I probably would not be a regular here, but do hope to return back to explore the menu a bit further.

–If you want water at this establishment, you’ll have to ask for it. No bread, no dip, no water… Red flag off the bat. –Came in on a Sunday and tried the mojito for starters — it was a disaster. $ 9 for a fistful of mint leaves and quarter slices of lime squeezed into my glass with liquor which they call a mojito. My straw kept getting clogged by the rubbage. I don’t know where some other posters are ordering mojitos from to call the ones served here any good. –The food… The food was HORRIBLE. Dry, ugly presentation, and unless you’re Spanish — you’ll never know what ingredients your meal has prior to ordering because their menus aren’t informative, like their target crowd is Hispanic or well versed in this type of cuisine. I ordered the Peruvian rice with steak(thinking it was even remotely comparable to Pio Pio), and verified the ingredients with the waitress who spoke only beginner’s level English. To my dismay, the rice which was just to be loaded with spices came served with chunks of scrambled egg. Since my friend sent back one of Sitio Samba’s signature drinks because it was loaded with a gallon of sugar, I hesitated to send my plate back and grudgingly picked out the scrambled egg chunks with my fork. –The ambiance is so dive it’s hysterical. There were 4 different motifs going it felt schizophrenic. With the meal the bonus was supposed to be live music at 8pm… My friend & I were there til 8:30 and the band was just starting to lug in their equipment. To top THAT, yeah it gets worse, the waitresses pulled up a table with a cash tray from the register fifteen feet from us and started counting out dollars and coins. It reminded me of something you see at a dive bar 4:30am when everyone’s plastered, only this was prime time in a RESTAURANT. –My last gripe with this place was the mandatory 15% tip on my receipt. It was only 2 of us so that’s clearly a scam and indicates what kind of clientele this place is accustomed to. Or maybe their food is so mediocre people’s tips reflect it… Just watch out when you pay via credit card not realizing you’ve already included 15% tip. At the end of the day, I still felt swindled. The food, drinks, and ambiance SUCKED and we left due to time constraints without ever seeing the band perform(which was the deciding factor in going there to begin with). I payed the bill but apologized to my friend for bringing her there. I hate writing bad reviews but this experience HAD to be Unilocaled.

We walked by this restaurant a few weeks ago and noticed an inexpensive lunch menu. They actually have 2 special menus… the $ 6.95(M-F) and the $ 9.95 one that’s available every day. We splurged and went for the«expensive» meal. I had a Peruvian chicken dish; my husband had cod. We were both happy with the quality of the food, our portion sizes and the price. We’ll be back.

Mehhhhh. Went here with a friend. the food was blah … The margharita was OK. But when I ask the lady if there is mango flavor she told me the bartender is coming after 8. Sooo ummm who is that behind the bar?. When she asked how the food was we told her it was cold but was dismissed cause she nodded and walked away. Then… How about she took our drink orders walked away 20mins then came back and asked us if we knew what we wanted to drink .ughh smh. OK food. Mediocre service

This is such a great place. I’ve been there for lunch and dinner and have not been disappointed. The service is great, everyone is friendly, the food is really good and reasonably priced. We also went on a Friday night when they live music… we ended up dancing the night away n singing to Argentinean tunes and Billy Joel… i need to add that we went back and after having dinner there, which was great to be fair, the waitress asked us if we will continue ordering drinks or she will bring us the check, she stated that she can’t an empty table… even though there was nobody waiting. so that’s enough for me, l although the food is good, i don’t care about being pressured to consume..

Damn! Mojitos are on point! This review is for the drinks only. The mojitos were awesome but pretty pricey for the location. The restaurant kind of smelled funny… maybe it was because I was sitting close to the bathroom. Friendly bartender.

Neighborhood Gem :-) Work a lot in this area and decided to drop by for lunch, as a friend had made good remarks about their food. Was greeted by the owner and his wife(very welcoming)…the waitress then directed us to our table. Below are my reviews: –The establishment is cute and clean –Ambient casual –Service good –Food was fresh and flavorful(large portions) –Price excellent During the week its a very in and out restaurant. But during the weekend it’s a nice spot to have a nice cocktails and here some nice live music. Very happy we stopped by. Will definitely visit again whenever I find myself in this neighborhood :-) Much success to the owners!

Hubby and I met some out of town relatives for dinner, after reading so many great reviews on Sitio Samba Sabor we decided to give it a try. Happy we did, everything from appetizers to entrees was totally satisfying. The only drawback was the long wait before we had gotten our orders, but once we got it and started with our courses we all realized that everything was worth waiting for. We ordered the seafood soup, the fish. the chicken, the fried Yuca with fried tasty sausages. Simply top it all our Waitress was terrific She apologized so many times for the long wait and poured us some free drinks. I Think that was a really nice touch. I am already thinking about going back i just love this kind of fusion, it just makes you want to go back for more.

I love Sitio Samba Sabor. I’m so lucky to live so close to one of my favorite spot. Selection is usually very good and the prices seem to be reasonable for, say, Stella Artois and the privilege of some amazing Caipirinhas. The staff are friendly and very attentive guides for that menu, with a calm demeanor in line with everything else about the establishment. I can’t ever recall a difficult exchange with a member of staff, leaving me with blissfully little to say on this subject. They also have a Brazilian band every Friday and Saturday night … one word: FUN ! I love This Place

I don’t know what happened to this place. I started going here over 14 years ago… don’t try to guess my age! I used to come here all the time for their Cubano or as most people know it as a Cuban sandwich. Once in a while, I used to drive to El Sitio in Astoria to grab a Cubano before heading to the Regal Kaufman movie theater. I would sneak the Cubano into the movies via my backpack. But one day I did it and the sandwich seemed a bit dry and not the same as it used to be. Also the service was a bit slow. El Sitio is not the same anymore. They snazzed up the joint, as far as atmosphere goes, but the food is not the same anymore. I liked the establishment better when it looked like a old fashioned diner with a counter because the food was better. The sandwich is not as good anymore. SADFACE!
