After a big day of we eating, drinking and singing a big group of hungry Unilocaler decide to eat in this restaurant, because we were passing by and we saw the name and then we knew that they had some latino food over here. Is very hard for me being from the Latino population to give a Latin American restaurant more than 3 starts, because I always expect a great meal and excellent homemade food. My party was around 10 people, there were not a table big enough for all us, so we sat in two different tables, but their were next to each other. In my table we decided to have a small family style meal, so we did share a few platters. Bandeja Tipica: The platter contains a tiny arepa, over medium egg, chicharron, steak, white rice, avocado and platano maduro. The chicharon was very crispy, the white rice was very good and steak had a juice taste, everything else was good too. Yuca frita with chicken: a great additional for those who like yuca, very crispy and delicious, the chicken was very good. The servers are very fast and helpful. The prices are very good too, and the portion is very big.

Great food. Super affordable. Great service. Average wait time for food is 10 to 15 minutes maximum… Best late night food in Astoria(open most Fridays & Saturdays until 6 am)

I was doubting this place when my brother said ‘Let’s go!’ We went in, greeted, and our waitress took us to a spot by the window. My brother had already knew what to order, some steak with a side of rice and fries. Comes with a salad too. It also came out in a quick fashion, piping hot! As far as taste goes, the steak was thin slice, but very tender and packed with flavor! I was indeed loving my meal. Will definitely come back.

–I really liked the arroz con pollo. –The soup was ok– the meat wasn’t great –hot sauce did not taste like authentic Colombian –sweet plantains were good

I came in 2.75 hours before closing. Asked for a rotisserie chicken for take out. I heard the food was good, it looked fine inside, and the hostess/waitress was very kind. When I asked if a chicken was available, though(note the name of the restaurant), the person at the cash register did not look up from his phone or the register screen and just shook his head no. What, exactly, is available at a restaurant that is known for rotisserie chicken almost 3 hours before closing? I’d love to try it again when this person is not working.

Seriously, so good. I spent my Thanksgiving dinner here with my roommate after we unsuccessfully walked from our apartment to Best Buy to look for a new TV. Muttering that the checkout line was too long and we were getting hangry(hungry + angry), we left empty handed with empty stomachs to match. Our Thanksgiving stroll was saved by the deliciousness that is Pollos A La Brasa Mario, starting off with a yummy fruit juice. We shared the steak entrée, which came with a salad, rice, beans and fries. It was totally enough for two girls under 5’3! :) Everything came out fast and we left super full… food coma happened and I was sleeping by 9PM. Much more successful than our Best Buy attempt.

For some strange reason I never really been here during normal hours but always in the middle of the night after a night of drinking. I love that this place is open 24 hours and the service is always great. I do like their food especially their breakfast since us Colombians eat very hearty early in the morning.

Worst place ever. Actually waiting for police to come became we were threatened by their delivery driver. STEERCLEAR. Update. Filed police report for harassment. We ordered through who, along with restaurant, told us to leave our un-eaten food outside. Which we did. They had their driver drive by and pretend to look for it! Lol. Fortunately we have on video. Idiots.

I went about a month ago for take out. I offered a whole chicken, shrimp in garlic sauce and flank steak to take home. My wife picked up the food and ask the girl at the counter with a mole on her face, is this everything I ordered. After being told yes she drove home to Flushing, Queens. Found parking in an area that is of Flushing that is a tough battle to find parking. We were glad to be home to relax, then called the kids to the kitchen table to eat. Well, only to find out the girl with the black mole on her face forgot to put the whole chicken in our bag. We called to tell her of her error only for her to suggest we come by tomorrow. Funny right? So what are my kids going to eat tonight? We went back to Astoria and asked to speak to the manager to see what he’d be willing to give us for this major inconvenience. Well, they told me he wasn’t there which was a lie and I asked for my whole chicken that I paid for but didn’t receive and another shrimp in garlic on the house. After about an hour back and fourth they charged me $ 6 for another shrimp in garlic sauce meal since I had to give it to one of my kids. As I left, the girl with the black mole said something inappropriate. No matter how good the cook is, if you don’t get good service from the girl at the counter with the black mole on her face, I would always check my order before walking out. Just a nasty attitude and a even nastier situation that could have been avoided.

My husband and I order frequently from here as the service is always speedy and the food is amazing! I love the pollo a la brasa(oven roasted whole chicken) and the Pechuga a la plancha(grilled chicken breast) as they are seasoned with Spanish flavor(garlic, adobo, etc) and bring the best hot sauce(onions, chili, cilantro). The beans are also yummy made with pork fat and definitely from scratch. I love the maduros(sweet plantain) and tostones(fried green plantains) which always include a generous amount in the portions. My husband loves the Bandera tipica because it brings every kind of meat imaginable, rice and beans, French fries and salad all for 20 bucks! Definitely a bang for your buck! I have to say that when we consider leaving Astoria we cannot imagine life without Pollos Mario!

I love their food! It always taste fresh and amazing, their lunch special is just amazing, but the regular order is very well served, two people can eat and its usually less than $ 20. Everybody very friendly. Very good food and a lot of options of great Colombian food! Love their beans, and the fries are also amazing!

I love coming to this place. And we just ordered in last night, was also great. My favorite thing to get here is their seafood casserole #25. ITISSOGOOD, those flavors, that creaminess! It is probably a gazillion calories of cream, but whatever. The chicharron here looks amazing, but I find it a bit hard for my teeth. My hubs has no complaints. Their chicken here is pretty awesome, juicy chicken breast, flavorful skin! Oh, their fries must be deep fried in crack… I am not usually a fry person, but their fries totally invoke the domino effect. My husband ordered the Mario special last night #1, which comes with everything: chicharron, pork loin, beef steak, chicken and some sides. He was very satisfied. We also ordered #55 side of corn cake topped with cheese, I was expecting something sweet like the venezualan style, it was NOT sweet. Thank goodness we had some sweet plantains! Almost forgot to mention their lunch specials. I’ve only been here once for lunch on a Friday for the T-bone steak lunch special $ 8.50. It was pretty good for that price, but it is not something that I would go for again since it is a 15 min walk there over my lunch hour(I ran), and the piece of meat was just alright. Again, can’t ask for much when it is $ 8.50.

I’m giving this place a 5 based on how delicious and how huge their plates are here. This is a nice little Colombian spot that will leave you with the itus! These servings are massive and for a great price you leave so full. I like the interior also because I feel like it’s more of an old school restaurant feel with some of the seating area surrounded by Colombian flags. I highly recommend this spot if you’re ever in Astoria and you are starving. This place will do your stomach the justice that is needed!

First, I’ll begin by saying that I’m from Colombia, And I’ve grown up in NYC eating at different Colombian restaurants. This place is a hit or miss, I don’t know why they are so inconsistent. I’ve come to this location for a long time and I’m sad to report that it’s changed a lot for the worse. Food sometimes is too salty, or too bland. The service isn’t great either, the women working the tables seem upset and very serious a lot of the times I’ve been here. That’s def not very Colombian, Colombians are friendly, warm and welcoming which is very far from the attitude these are portraying here. If you happen to end up here you might want to try the Bandeja Paisa or rotisserie chicken. It’s also a good idea to ask what’s the daily special you might be surprised.

After some Friday night happy hour I was in the mood for some good roasted chicken. Pollos A La Brasa certainly did not disappoint. I ordered the half chicken with some maduros as a side. The chicken was delicious and cooked to perfection. I couldn’t believe it was only $ 5.25 for this delightful piece of meat. The skin had such a great flavor to it. Then there was the maduros. Oh I love me some plantains. They left my mouth wanting more even though I was already stuffed. These are not small portions even though the price is so cheap. I’ll definitely be coming back here.

I have been going to Pollos since 2006, and now that I live in FL I try to visit this restaurant every time I’m in NY. The food is so tasty, the atmosphere is so laid back you don’t want to leave. Just as a tip, every single dish here feeds two people, it’s an enormous amount of food! Definitely worth a visit if you can easily get to Stainway St station!

3.5 stars Cool spot, filled with Colombian charm and atmosphere. I got their plato tipico, which was a lot of food of decent quality. Although I particularly loved the maduros and the chicharrones, I wish the food had come warmer. Still a good deal, though: $ 14 for grilled beef, chicharrones, maduros, beans, avocado, rice and a fried egg. Huge plate. You have to be hungry to eat it all!

After having been to Tierras Colombianas multiple times, I thought I’d give Pollos A La Brasa Mario a try since it always stuck out because of its bright red/yellow design on the corner of 41st Street, plus they had good reviews on Unilocal.I came here on a Saturday and it was relatively crowded, but there were still seats available. The restaurant is very spacious and there are booths everywhere. There was a good mix of couples and families inside, but I can see how families love coming here due to the large food portions. The menu was quite large with a number of entrees on there, but we went with the most popular dish — The Country Platter. The platter was a hodgepodge of foods — Steak, Fried Pork, Egg, Corn Cake, Rice, Beans, Avocado and Sweet Plantains. Just staring at the plate made me full, as it was MASSIVE, but that’s what I came for so was ready for this challenge! The overall platter was ‘OK’ compared to what I’ve had at Tierras Colombianas. The Fried Pork was extremely difficult to cut and chew, which sort of made it a turn off to eat. The steak was decent, flavored and chewy. The least attractive item was the corn cake as it was devoid of flavor and the texture was not appealing. The rest of the ingredients were what they were, so no qualms there. As for the service, it was a little slow, but it’s not like we were in any hurry. Overall, I can’t say Pollos A La Brasa Mario is a winner, but it’s not the worst option out there. It definitely had a local, family feel to it with fair prices so I can see why it attracts many locals.

I love any of the Pollos A La Brasa Mario restaurants. There are several locations in Queens including in Astoria, Middle Village, 3 in Jackson Heights. Been to every location. My BF and I love the variety, price and portion. We like portions that are large enough to share and/or have leftovers. I’ve been going to the Astoria location for years. I introduced this place to my BF. He loves it now. Astoria location is one of my favorite locations. What’s also awesome is all the locations open late. There is street parking. Sometimes you might have to walk a few blocks but that is expected. My boyfriend and I seem to gravitate to the Mario’s Special Platter very often at all the Pollos A La Brasa Mario locations, $ 18.25. The platter comes with a thin grilled steak(they cook it well done, it’s going to be on the dry side), pork loin(excellent-very moist), Chicharron(fried pork skin, eat quickly!), ¼ chicken(I always ask for dark meat), a generous side of rice and beans, fries(which I always ask for a substitute, maduros which is sweet plantains), and for making this plate look healthy… some salad. It feeds two people with leftovers!!! I am sure it feeds 3 or even 4 not so hungry people. My BF ordered the breaded chicken breast which was delicious… I don’t even like breast meat but I would order the breaded cutlet again. Whenever a plate comes with fries, we always ask for maduros. We love maduros very much and it is very nice of them to let us substitute. This by far is one of my favorite locations. Can’t really say why. Maybe because it’s a bit larger than the other locations and I like the vibe? I’ve always had adequate service. They are always busy so they are not going to chit chat. Always been nice to me.

I love to write about solid neighborhood restaurants. They are the backbone of the community. Great price. Good food. Very convenient. Pollos A La Brasa Mario fits this model in Astoria. Serving delicious rotisserie chicken. I have been to Pollos A La Brasa Mario a few times for eating in as well as take out. I have always had the same meal, their ¼ chicken combo with rice, salad, french fries and consommé. Their rotisserie chicken is hands down delicious. Moist. Well season. Very flavorful. I have other chicken places that I love, but Pollos A La Brasa Mario does a consistent job with their cooking procedure for their chicken. Rice, salad and french fries are very standard sides. Standard white rice. Standard frozen fries. Standard romaine with shredded carrots. Actually very boring. Consommé, this is a HOMERUN. Outstanding to very outstanding. This was one delicious soup. Now, Mario’s consommé is not your traditional clear broth consommé. This was one hardy soup. Packed with potatoes, hearts, chicken gizzards, white meat in a richly flavored broth. It was as good a soup as I ever had. Top 3 ever. Delicious. Overall, Pollos A La Brasa Mario is a go to place for some good chicken. It is very affordable meal for a ¼ chicken combo: $ 6.95 for lunch and $ 9.50 for dinner. Chicken is always flavorful and moist. Yum.
