An excellent way to stay in shape and learn self defense!!! There is an excellent group of people at this facility, and you always leave feeling GREAT!!! I started training here about a month ago. When I walked by the first time I was greeted by Bruce Lee’s poster outside and went inside to ask a few questions. I was offered a free trial lesson. The free lesson was amazing, from the workout to the science behind every move. NYMAA is an official JKD training school. The instructors are all very dynamic and the enviroment is very cooperative rather than competitive. They focus on self defense, coordination, discipline and fitness. NYMAA is designed to bring you to the highest level of JKD self defense and other great benefits. It is a very effective system. There are all sorts of people in the classes, ranging from Marines to housewives. If you’ve never tried it out, I would highly recommend it. Classes are pumped with philosophies, spirituality and authenticity. Did I mention??? There schedule is flexible. I can train at any of the 4 schools mornings or evenings. I believe the curriculum and instructors are quality. They have more than 35 different programs all JKD based. Good information and very attentive teaching. The class seemed intense and friendly enough. I train here religiously every week and it has benefited me in so many ways I never thought martial arts could’ve provided for me. This is true core self defense and fitness and its a feeling that you can’t put a price on!

I have been attending this Martial Arts Academy for quite some time now and what has me hooked is the integrity and authenticity of both its teachings and its instructors. If you are looking for an authentic JKD school this is your place, I have been to a few JKD schools and this is by far the best quality and best bang for your buck. For one rate you get access to all 4 locations and you get plenty of open-floor time to practice and utilize at your discretion. All the instructors are extremely knowledgeable and readily available to answer any questions you may have, they are extremely attentive during class and provide a great learning experience in the art. The classes are high paced and at times also offer a discussion of the art’s concepts which is very insightful and useful in the hands-on application of the art itself and in expanding one’s knowledge and understanding of the art. If you have a pure passion for JKD and the Martial Arts and are looking for a place to practice end immerse yourself within the art than this is your place, everyone here loves the art and its a way of life for them, not just some job to make ends meet… Bruce Lee quotes pop-up on the regular from both staff and students, discussions and debates about the arts are frequent before and after classes, it is truly is a place of learning the art of JKD and a symposium of sorts for the Martial Arts!!!

Went in for my free introductory week of instruction(2 classes in my case) and was hassled at every turn to sign-up and fork over nearly $ 500(a one-time charge of approx. $ 279 for equipment and undisclosed fees with a monthly maintenance fee of nearly $ 200, which the owner said would soon increase to $ 225). The owner, Dino, was extremely rude and belligerent towards me after my second class when I told him I wanted some time to think about the expense. He told me that I must not be serious if I needed time to think, and that he didn’t care if I ever came back. Great business strategy. Before fussing me out, though, he did say that they were likely going to expand and open up a juice bar in the space… perhaps that’s the reason their fees are so high, and why it feels like they’re practically bullying you into signing up. I was actually leaning towards joining the academy before my interaction with the owner, as the classes were substantive, but left wondering why I would ever give nearly $ 500 to those folks…
