Rude! I walked to this bakery because I wanted to buy treats for my family and a nice gift for a friend. I am a very polite and friendly customer and tonight I was in a good mood so I was certainly pleasant. I ordered a lot of cookies, which were extremely expensive, in both my opinion and compared to the neighborhood prices. Maybe they are better quality, I don’t know. The woman who helped me, who seemed to be the owner, was very rude and impatient, both with me and with an employee while I was standing at the counter. There are several wonderful Greek bakeries in this neighborhood. Desserts become bittersweet when accompanied with impatience and sour treatment of customers. I will take my business elsewhere.

All of the other reviews are correct. The service is abhorring. We ventured in tonight to purchase an after-dinner treat to go. To say that the three different employees we encountered were rude and dismissive would be the understatement of the century. I was scoffed at by one waitress when I guess I was in in her way while she was trying to bring waters to a table of greek men. We were in the middle of a conversation with the person taking our order, when a Greek elderly couple at a table had a question, and he just walked away from us! No «excuse me», no «just a second». He just walked away while my husband was in mid-sentence. The two baked goods we did purchase were extremely mediocre, and in mid-transaction the price was changed by a dollar. And for two pastries at $ 7 I would deem this very overpriced. There are much better establishments in the neighborhood with much kinder employees. Go to Martha’s. Go to La Guli. DONOTGOHERE. Really, how difficult is it to just be nice to your customers?

Just awful attitudes on servers/owners. I had to interrupt their conversation to get their attention. Never have I got an evil eye from an owner like that before. How dare I stop their riveting topic? He begrudgingly got my items. I ask what another item is. He tells me the name but nothing about it. Fantastic. He rings me up, tells me «$ 6»…we pull out $ 6. «No it’s $ 7». Really? What’s that the non-Greek tax? The real kicker, pastries are just mediocre and don’t taste homemade at all. I can get more authentic desserts at the deli. Outsiders obviously not welcome or wanted. Don’t worry, I won’t be back.

Although the baked goods are pretty good, I have to give this place a two stars. I’ve been there many times but always regret when I go back. The Baklava is good and the place has a beautiful presentation but the attitude of the employees is unacceptable. Yesterday I took my mother who was visiting from out of town to the bakery. We were walking by and she wanted to go in and take a look at the beautiful pastry. We most likely would have bought something but the grumpy old lady who is always in there and I’m sure is the owner, jumped out of nowhere and asked us what we wanted and then when we said we were just looking she yelled at us for having outside food inside… mind you it was a Dunkin donuts coffee… Come on. It wasn’t even busy at the time. The only people in there were a bunch of Greek men watching basketball in the back. I guarantee they were sitting there for hours and«maybe» bought one frappé, and I’m sure she didn’t say a word to them. I was also in the shop during Greek Easter. My boyfriend is Greek and I went to buy some goodies for dinner. He had given me a list of things to buy and when I asked the grumpy woman to help me she looked at me directly in the eye and told me that she had no time to help me and to go find someone else. No one else was there to help so I got whatever was self serve and went to the register. The grumpy old woman who was too busy to help me sure wasted no time taking my $ 48! Needless to say I will never take anyone in there nor give that ill mannered woman any more of my money. There are plenty of wonderful bakeries in Astoria with nice employees. Martha’s which is down the street is just as good if not better and much has a friendlier staff! laGulis is also a preferred choice. Disrespect of the customers who are trying to support your business is far from acceptable and should not be tolerated. The employees of Lefkos are NOT representing the Greek culture very well either. My boyfriend who is Greek is actually embarrassed. People travel from all over to experience the amazing Greek culture we have in Astoria and In return get treated like rubbish in Lefkos. Not ok. I’ve learned my lesson and will be spending my money in a friendlier establishment. Like they always say«you catch more flies with honey than vinegar!» Lefkos should take some of that honey dripping from their baklava, drizzle it on themselves and become a little sweeter!

Unlike its modern and clean look from outside, employees seems have no ideas about pricing or very dishonest. We ordered only 2 espresso with 2 desserts(3 cookies and custard) and 6 cookies late for takeout. Later we got got a bill more than $ 26. Its breakdown is $ 3.75 for coffee $ 5 for each desserts.($ 5 for 3 cookies and $ 5 for one custard) and $ 6 for takeout cookies(5 cookies) Cookies were exact same and how come $ 5 for 3, on table and $ 6 for 5 takeout cookies? No time to argue, but have a strong feeling that they try to rip off from customers/tourists. Not recommended.

How can I give this café only 2-stars? I struggle with this for a whole day. The pastries delicious and the place looks inviting but service was a 1-star experience. We trekked five blocks in 90 degrees temperature just to check this place out. What we got was a cold reception; more like totally ignored by the three staffs. At first I thought they were busy taking care of the three little tables that had customers. Nope, they just ignored us. Wouldn’t acknowledge us. So we decide not to eat in and just brought a slice of rainbow cake to go. The male waiter gave me a look of «What you just want to buy ONE slice of cake; you stopped me just for that?!» The female waitress also ignored us. When we asked about ordering whole cakes the abruptly told us to speak with the owner and walked away without waiting for my follow-up of «Is the owner here?» I said it right in front of an older lady behind the counter doing paper work and I wonder if she was the owner. She never looked up, never spoke to us but was talking a lot with the other staff. The male waiter returned with my change and just throw the money on the counter and walk away. Thank you! Food– 4/5, Service– 1⁄5 BTW– their Greek pastries look very similar to Titan Foods nearby.

Apparently the place was really nice, we decided to stop by for 2 espresso, 3 cookies and a small pastry. The price was ridicolisly expensive, you don’t pay that much(20 $) even in the city. We asked for clarification and we had a feeling they lied about prices. Never back!

Hey! You know what’s nice? Going in to a café and receiving good service! You know what sucks? Being spoken to like you are an idiot. I simply asked if they were able to warm up cookies. The lady behind the counter glared at me like I had just spat in her brownies. The service here is deplorable. Do you even want to make any money? Go down the road to Martha’s. Much nicer and a better bakery all round. I hope this place gets shut down again. Gross. Learn how to talk to people, you miserable server.

Go to Martha’s. Mediocre and overpriced. You will get decent service here ONLY if your are Greek and love Donald Trump. The place is like a retirement home that is going out of business, a blight on an otherwise amazing neighborhood. The treats are on par with a bag of chips ahoy. I’ve been here 3 times in the last year, watching closely how they interact with customers. While they give bad service to all in general, they are especially rude to non-Greek customers so that they don’t come back. You will get attitude, intentional mismanagement of your order, and more attitude if you politely reitierate what you would like to have. My experiences here have been: 1. Giving me 2 pastries when I asked for one, then getting attitude from them after I said just one. Then more attitude from the ugly old lady at the register. No thank you, goodbye, or look in the face from them. Just frowns and misery. 2. I went in with friends and tried to order pastries. We sat down, they gave us menus with no pictures so we had to get up and point out what we wanted at the glass display. Boy did that annoy the waitress and the old lady at the register. Like clockwork the waitress acted annoyed like she is doing us a huge favor. It was weird getting such bad attitude. I wasn’t sure if she was dumb, playing dumb, or lazy, or all of the above. And then it hit me, we were foreigners in a foreign land. Funny enough my guests and I were born in the states. Can’t say the same about most of Lefkos. I had seen one of their patrons printing out Donald Trump posters at Staples. He was sitting there that day, getting great service like the regular he is. 3. Ordered coffee, sat down, and watched. There was not much they could do to steer me away, but oh boy was there notorious attitude in the air. The people that work here are LAZY, and constantly act annoyed if you are not a Greek old fart that orders the same thing every day. It’s inhospitable to be there unless you are part of their in-house retirement club. Look up the owners, they’ve had criminal histories too. Good riddance, never again. You’re better off going to Dunkin Donuts, at least the retirement club there is more welcoming.

I’ve been meaning to write this review since they opened. They are the rudest bunch of people I have ever, ever had the displeasure of encountering in any establishment ever. But please don’t think my comment is an empty one. Let’s get specific… My friend and I enter and start to look through the pastries. A rude look is given by the older woman, a younger woman and a man in his 20 – 30’s and someone else behind the counter. Anyway, we then make eye contact with the older woman and ask for help. She literally walked away from us. I asked my friend, «is she kidding?» We asked another woman behind the counter with shoulder length brown-ish hair for help, she keeps looking away, but reluctantly says«sure.» We’re asking what certain things are, she’s looking away every few moments; and then walks away. She walked away! Then there’s the younger male, who was wearing jeans, a white long sleeved collar shirt with the sleeves rolled up and he had a beard. This dirtbag then decides I’m in ‘his’ way and as he comes out from behind the counter tries to literally move me with his body. Big mistake as I’m 6’2″ and he obviously isn’t. I said to him, «the words are ‘excuse me’» and he pretends he didn’t hear me. He didn’t come from behind the counter to help someone who was there before us, he came out from behind the counter to help someone who just walked through the door… holding an LV bag. And how do I know she just walked through the door you ask? Because in the several minutes of being ignored I was watching everything that was happening in this shit-show of an establishment and saw her step out of a car and walk in. The woman who helped us for 15 seconds a few minutes ago makes her way back to the counter, after the older woman made eye contact several times and literally REFUSED to help us, and she asks if we needed anything. I’ll admit, I did buy some pomegranate thing for $ 5. The younger woman took it out and wrapped it up, YET the older woman took my money. God forgive me, but all I could think of was«you bitch,» you looked me in the eyes, walked away from us and even started a conversation in Greek when I was trying to ask you for help… but you could take my money. I paid, said thank you and I said to my friend on the way out, never ever again, ever. This place needs to humility, respect for others… and a clue. My apologies this is so long, but I’m not the type of person to ever say, let alone write a negative review. But their behavior was so offensive and inappropriate that I feel it’s almost a community service in letting the public know. Oh! Read the other reviews! In reading many of the other posts… it’s obvious we’re all talking about the same people and things! ;-) Quick update: the friend I was with just read my review and was like«omg it’s so long.» I said to him, «but did I lie about anything!?» He said, «no, actually you left some stuff out lol»

Great authentic bakery for Greek pastries. Of course I chose the oddest looking one, the kataifi. The shell is baked and looks like a long ball of thin, fried noodles. The interior is filled with nuts coated with a thick sweet syrup. I liked the crispy kataifi dough and it was put together very well but the dessert was too sweet for me. I didn’t have to add any sugar to my cappuccino to enjoy my little snack time while waiting for dinner at Taverna Kyclades across the street. The other pastries on display also looked like they were soaked in syrup. Guess I’m not a fan of Greek pastries. Service is very… interesting. They’re welcoming without greeting you with a smile, immediately ask to take your order if they see you lingering in front of their pastries, patient when asked how to pronounce the name of the dessert, eager to slap the bill on your table but take forever to collect the payment(no tips on credit card receipt so I left cash). I wouldn’t say that they are intentionally rude because it might be cultural. Note: tables are for dine-in and serviced.

Went with my bestie we were very excited until the horrible customer service looking at us and talking in their language, we had to beg for their attention and they were not that busy, lots of employees. Over priced, and nothing oh so out of the ordinary. Tired few things way too sweet !! There was a older women there looked very racist, she kept looking at us and spoke to us with a very rude toned voice, she had no manners what so ever. We are customers surely we might have questions about some of the pastries, none of the employees were even willing to talk to us for 30 seconds. Will not be coming back ever again !

Came here a few times because it’s convenient to the subway. Every time I’ve been the staff is not personable and unfriendly. Perhaps they need to dig into some sugar for sweetness. The quality of the dessert is okay… you’re in Astoria, you are definitely not short of options. If you’re in a pinch and need something quick, stop by. Otherwise look elsewhere.

I’ve got a soft spot for Greek deserts and this place has them in spades. They’ve moved from their prior location to an equally convenient spot on Dithers and what can I say, the deserts are great. I’m sure the regular deserts are good but I come for Greek pastries like the galaktomboureko and baklava. Super delicious and authentic. Service is pleasant and the place is clean and comfortable. The one and only Lefkos Pyrgos is back better than ever – as is proprietor Anna’s bad attitude. After a generation and a half, LP moved from its former home on the corner of 23rd Ave and 31st St. to its new home on the corner of Ditmars Blvd. and 33rd St. On this visit I didn’t venture to the back but I perceived the place to be bigger than the previous one. The kitsch, white marble laden décor is also back. And so are the incredible frappes and Greek and Ottoman inspired baked standards: cheese and spinach pies, and frappé, melonomakarouna(honey soaked cookies), kourabiedes(Russian tea cookies), et al Like the sturgeon fish, LP is a living dinosaur from ghosts of Christmases past and worth the visit because it continues to be relevant.

This place looked charming from the outside so I decided to venture in for some dessert. Things are a tad confusing here. There was no visible menu to be found. If you are in Astoria and do not feel like getting Marthas for dessert, give this place a shot!

I went to the new Lefkos Pirgos located on Ditmars Blvd and was not satisfied with my experience. Pros: New and lovely interior, full of light, many options, reasonable prices Cons: Misleading pastry names: I ordered the Ferrero Rocher pastry and it tasted nothing like Ferrero Rocher — it was just a pastry filled with milk chocolate mousse with a few hazelnuts on the top. Pastries made without care: My friend ordered the same chocolate pastry, and we found a string of some sort in the pastry. She didn’t want to make a big deal about it but I was disappointed because of that. Below average service: Another friend of mine ordered Touloumbes and there were 6 – 7 pieces with the order, however she wanted to take 3 of them home. We waited for the waitress to come collect the money & ask if we wanted to take our left overs home(¾ of us had unfinished pastries) but she never came to check on us, so we just paid at the register and our food was quickly taken away as soon as we got up. Overall I was not satisfied and will probably go to Artopolis or Martha’s next time around.

At it’s new location, all bright and still with a comfortable/easy going atmosphere of a café setting, Lefkos Pyrgos has a large variety of deserts and cakes to choose from. It’s packed this night, hard to find a seat in their handful of tables up front by the pastries and even more so packed in the back where there are two flat screens hung on the wall. Lefkos Pyrgos has good coffee. I was going for what looked like a fully dipped chocolate but decided one of their cakes by the piece looked better. There’s a good selection of cakes, say for a birthday or celebration. Only thing is there’s no pricing listed anywhere on the wall, next to the desert/pastry, nor names by any of the tasty looking sweets. It’s a nice clean place to just sit back and have a conversation or watch what’s on the televisions.

The taste and the quality of the desserts offered is very similar to the ones somebody would find in Greece. Nevertheless, the attitude of the owner towards the customers is insulting and can ruin the experience completely! I have been visiting this dessert place for several years. I am Greek and whenever I would get homesick and wanted to have a taste from my home country, I would pay a visit there. Last time I visited, we were rudely told by the owner to move from our table to a smaller one because a bigger party was looking for somewhere to sit and the place was pretty packed. One might argue about everything being business, so something like that is to be expected, but seriously, who wants to go out to have a nice dessert and to get treated like that?

If you have 1 bakery to go to in astoria and want the true greek experience then this is the one to do. Baklava kicks Martha’s bakery baklava’s ass. They have an almond orange round cake that took our breath away. Expect older greek men watching soccer inside– this is like a sports bar in café form, so you might have your conversation interrupted with celebratory cheers or angry jeers(all in greek, so if your kids don’t speak greek you don’t have to worry about them picking up bad language). The service is. european. So enjoy the atmosphere and take your time.

Lefko Pirgos is a café I have been coming to for years when in the Ditmars section of Astoria. Brings back a lot of memories when I was teenager. I would cut class with friends and come hang out have laughs and stuff our faces with pastries and sip on Frappé. «Frappé» Is Nescafe Ice Suger milk shaken then poured into a glass that builds a froth on top. One of my favorite greek pastries«Galaktombourek» its a honey drizzled pastry with a custard filling. I also enjoy their plain cheese cake. Its thick and very rich but the calories are worth it. Double Espresso is very good. All dessert drinks come with a Chocolate Ganache Ball thats off the hook.

These people are incredibly rude. I waited at the counter for at least 5 minutes before I interrupted their conversation to ask to be helped, and then I was helped begrudgingly. I paid far too much for mediocre pastries that are subpar to the ones from many other bakeries in the area. I think they are very rude to customers who are not Greek. There are no prices posted anywhere, and when I have made purchases, the person helping me seems to quote me whatever price pops out of their head at the moment, leading me to believe the price is different for different kinds of folks. The window displays at LP are tempting, butI take my business to Rose and Joe’s across the street or to Guli’s(sp?) on Ditmars and 31st.

I stopped by to pick up a few pasteries on my way to visit friends. The chocolate mousse cup had a thick skin on top, the cupcake frosting had a peculiar odor and was stale. The only pastery that was fair was the baklava and kantaifi. It appears that with all the cafes and greek pastery shops the turnover here is low and hence the poor quality of confections. This is the original Greek café and pastery shop in the area but I think they need to bake smaller batches. I went with my Greek friend. Everything looks good in the display cases but looks can be deceiving.

The baklava was pretty good, but the espresso was fair. I don’t think I’ll come back. There are better places to go to where the service is better. I pass by them everyday. Colorful cakes rotate round and round in their store front display. Locals smoking and chatting while enjoying the ‘feine and sugars. Hey, I’m in the mood for something sweet and a good cup of joe. Hoping to take a breather from my long day ahead(useless-irrelevant-note: getting ready to move cross the states). I decided to walk in despite the low-star-ratings. I will give them the«benefit of a doubt.» Marveled by the vast amount of tarts, cakes, and other pastries(another useless tidbit: red velvet was no where to be spotted *heartbreak*), I asked the man behind he counter what the devilious-looking chocolate cakes contained. Unable to decide, I asked for his recommendation: he told me he had none. Atlas, the almonds, chocolate, and more chocolate bad boy it was. Serve me it with black coffee please! I was told to have a seat. Okie-dokie. Within the minute a lady brings me my order. She gave me a glass of water which I thought was nice, than she starts writing out the bill– she told me I could pay after. I was fine with this, being Asian and all, I am used to the«no-manners» setting. Being the Unilocaler I am, I whip out my camera… phone and start snapping some sexy shots. Attempting to take the most erotic photo of the chocolicious cake, an angry lady walked up from behind and interrupted me. «What are you doing?» Taking pictures. «Why do you do this?» ’cause I like taking pictures of what I put in my tummy. «You must stop. You can not do this, it is bad.» What? Mildly annoyed, apparently this boss-lady does not like pornographic food photography(nor happy customers). Putting aside the warning(after ninja’ing another shot or two), I dig in to my breakfast! The coffee was weak and very watery. The cake was not as good as it looked, and let me just say, it looked better far away too. The decorative chocolate shell was hard, like I-had-to-smack-it-with-my-spoon-hard. I sampled a bite and it was just boring standard chocolate– it was pretty heavy but it wasn’t too sweet so you’d get credit for that. However the cake is a lie! OK, not really, just wanted to scream that, hehe. But the cake was pretty much horrendous. It felt like the baker did some effortless stacking of chocolate and stale cake coated with more chocolate and old crushed almonds. How long has this cake been sitting here I wonder. But get this, the entire time I was trying to enjoy this cake, the boss-lady watched me like a hawk. There was pillar between herself and me, yet I would see her pier over to check up on me… wow seriously lady? After feeling like a criminal and repulsed by the nasty cake, I left the cake unfinished and went over to the counter to pay my bill: $ 7.50. Do yourself a favor and go try Noisette Pastries(Steinway) instead. Better prices, service, and of course pastries. Never coming back here…

Lefkos Pirgos(White Tower in Greek) is named after the White Tower in Thessalonika – a much nicer city than Athens. «No» is the answer to any fellow Hellene that may be reading my babble thinking«he’s probably from there.» The pastry shop is old school. Vintage 70s. Back to a time when Greeks roamed the street’s of Astoria in Cadillac El Dorados and self adorned with mutton-chop side burns, gold chains dangling on a bed of hair in open site though open polyester shirts neatly tucked into polyester bell-bottomed pants, see through socks and Ricky Ricardo shoes. Koyak was on TV and Telly Savallas ate at the Neptune Diner before stopping by(you guessed it) Lefkos Pirgos(LP) for a frappé. Ah the Golden Age of Astoria. Some say that the pastries at LP are vintage and taste as though they were baked in the 70s. I say who cares? revel in the scene and enjoy the Greek frappes, which taste as good – if not better – than anything I ever enjoyed in the motherland. Moreover, their cheese-pies are the among the best in Astoria and they keep the cheese pies properly heated in dry toaster oven like device like they do in Greece. This keeps the pastry flaky and crispy – as it should be. They don’t reheat stuff in the microwave like they do at other popular nearby cafes. LP stuff is not as pretty as the offerings of other patisseries but they taste about the same. If you want excellent desserts stop by a good French or even Asian bakery. The Greeks are good bakers when they want to be but they haven’t gotten the memo: people nowadays want more for their $$. So as a whole all Greek bakeries are mediocre; even the nearby ones mentioned by other reviewers. What you get at LP that you don’t get anywhere else is plenty of attitude and that’s part of the fun. Set your expectation very low for service and you will not be disappointed. «Who loves ya baby?»(An obscure reference to the 70s TV show«Kojak» probably way over the heads of MillGen hipsters)
