My review is only based on the empanadas and their pan de bono; both are soooo good! I only like the Colombian style beef empanadas, they are crunchy on the outside and filled with well seasoned moist shredded beef and potatoes. The side sauce they give you is spicy and delicious. The pan de bono or cheesy bread is heaven in your mouth, warm, soft, buttery and cheesy, always on point. One star off for lack of décor, seems like they’re not even trying to make the place look nice.

I try to write a review the day of consuming such hearty happy filling snacks!!! This review is for last week. I entered the small Spanish bakery. I Placed my order of one meat and potato empanada and one stewed chicken empanada. The young lady by the register gave me a side of hot sauce to accompany my precious yummy delights. I pretty much decided that the meat and potato was my favorite. It literally melted in my mouth. The ground beef seasoned perfectly with pieces of small moist potatoes. The stewed chicken was bland and dry so the hot sauce gave it a kick which was needed. I would be back to eat their other offerings!!!

Coffee is really hot and good. Service is a hit or miss. Not well kept place but it very convenient. Their homemade breads(stuffed) goes very well the coffee. Small place with no bathroom for customers. Cash only

NOTE: It’s called«La Sabrosura» now. There’s another one on Broadway. Idk how I’ve gone so long walking past this place every day on my walk to the train, and never ventured inside until this past weekend when a friend from out of town noticed it and suggested it. It’s very bare bones, and seems pretty authentic to how cafes/bakeries are in Latin America(at least that I’ve seen in my travels, anyway). The women working here are very friendly and helpful! They have a wide range of Colombian/Ecuadorian breads and also coffee and also EMPANADAS which are delicious(I’ve had the Colombiana and Argentina ones and they’re both fantastic). Plus, everything is insanely inexpensive. This is one of those Astoria gems that needs more recognition!

Who doesn’t like that downlow bakery style plate of baked chicken with rice and beans. Not the best but comforts the tummy. Love these kind of double dutchin’ kitchen baking lovin’ storefronts. Lady is sweet, the coffee is sweet and grab an empanada to goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. But it’s also not called La Casa del pan anymore. it’s now called«la sabrosura bakery» hm.

I was happily surprised to find this place. It has some of the best coffee i’ve found yet. I’ll have to come here for food some time when i’m not sprinting to the subway.

I cheated on my vegetarianism to have chicken empanadas here to fortify me for the nearbybatting cages. Hot sauce is key, but they are tasty and cheap. My friends raved about the potatoes and the bacon. That bacon scared me. For meat eaters, this should be a ringing endorsement. Nice selection of sodas, too.

I love the empanadas here(especially the potato empanadas). You can eat a fairly good sized lunch(two empanadas and a drink) for $ 3.50. They also have some great South American pastries that are very decently priced. This is a good place to stop for a quick lunch while biking or walking around Astoria.
