Doctor’s Wine & Spirits

I trust this guy. I would drop by once a year to grab last minute gifts and on multiple occasions, he ran out of what I needed and helped me find other places nearby.
I will start to consolidate all my purchases here. I can trade off anywhere between service and price, but I appreciate his transparency.

Doc is a gentleman. This spot is the beat in Astoria. It might not have the biggest selection, but the Doc makes it all worth while. If you are in the neighborhood, stop in.

I think all of the prior reviews sum it up. The doc (the owner really is a doctor), knows how to suggest a great wine within budget. I strongly suggest this place.

I am very much a fan of Doctor’s. The owner is very very knowledgeable about his stock, and is quick to order anything you don’t see. He can, however, be a bit chatty so prepare yourself.
Their pinot noir selection is unmatched in the area. And he seems to know a lot about them. He once said that 80% of doctors drink Pinot Noir. I’m pretty sure he said that to flatter me. I’ll take it.
He doesn’t deal much in liquor, he has a minimal stock so I suggest heading somewhere else for the hard stuff. But if you want a great bottle of wine, at a reasonable price, or assistance in picking out a great gift wine this is your man. I like to stock up every few months or so.

I’ve been a loyal customer ever since the current owner — Dr. K. — took over and transformed a boring small store with poor selection into a wine place for all tastes and wallets. Dr. K. is very knowledgeable when it comes to wines, and if you have a specific request for the label that is not in stock he’ll order it for you. It’s a pleasure to have a wine store of this quality just around the corner.

I’ve been going to «Doc’s» since the current owner took over the store from the previous owner (who didn’t know squat about wine or alcohol in general). The current owner, Doc, as I call him (I believe he is a PhD), is friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about what he sells.
I’ll be honest, sometimes I go in there for a bottle of Jack or a cheap bottle of wine just to get hammered on a Friday after a rough day at work. When I ask him for a good wine for under $ 12.00 he NEVER tries to upsell me, he just picks out the best $ 12 wine he has. It never disappoints.
I went in recently with my friend, Kristy R., to indulge in a wine from Cakebread Wineries. Doc was very helpful and found us a bottle within our budget and told us EXACTLY how long to chill it and then proceeded to go into detail about how chilling good white wine too long is a waste.
We bought the wine and were VERY happy with it. It was delicious.
I go to Doc’s often and he knows me (don’t judge my life, lol) and I think the reason I go there is because of him. He doesn’t want to just make a sale. He wants to sell you a good product.

I’ll be the first to admit that I am frugal (frugal dammit! not cheap!). So when I want wine, I tend to settle for the not-​so-​expensive bottle. I know good wine tastes better, and it’s worth the extra money, but I’m still frugal.
Recently, however, I decided to let the moths out of my wallet and indulge in a rather expensive bottle of wine. Cakebread Wineries. Let me tell you, this wine even smells good. It’s amazing and I wish I had the money to drink it all the time.
The owner of this store is very intelligent. He knows exactly how long to keep the bottle in the freezer so the wine doesn’t freeze your taste buds. Plus, he’s super nice. He’s not like some of these owners out there who just want a sale and will hand you just any bottle of wine.
