I’ve been going here regularly since I moved to Astoria in the summer, and can confirm that it is a pretty great spot during any season, despite the seemingly limited nature of a beer garden. Sure, it’s arguably a bit«better» in the warmer months when you can sit outside in the expansive garden area, but the indoor portion of this place is also spacious and enjoyable in the winter. I recently came by with a large group of people, and we found the downstairs to be really accommodating. It’s huge and there are TVs, a pool table, and foosball. Overall, it’s close to home, they have a nice selection of beers on draft for an affordable price, and all of the staff/bartenders here are so nice! It’s nice to mix things up every once in awhile, but this will always be a steady, solid default.

I guess you have to go at the right time, I’ve always had good service, but sometimes the crowd can be a bummer. Then again sometimes you meet the right person and talk all night! The place is huge and crowds can reach hundreds upon hundred, order food, kick back with your own small crowd and meet another small crowd, expand and contrast and chill!

Pretty cool place. It is HUGE, and despite hosting a Halloween Costume Party AND(the disappointing) game 4 of the World Series Saturday, it wasn’t too crowded. Drink prices were pretty cheap and we didn’t have much of a problem getting to the bar. Plenty of outdoor seating. They have some bar games in the lower level(pool table, foosball, darts, galaga/pac man) and good drink specials. The night we went draft beers were $ 4 til midnight.

Came here to celebrate a birthday with 20 of my closets/dearst friends. The space is huge, so a large group doesn’t feel awkward, and even on a Friday night it’s relatively spacious and we had no problems snagging a table. Beer selection was good, and prices are reasonable. The service is decent, although not very consistent. But with a fast moving beer pitcher line, you don’t have to wait for a waiter. I knocked off 1 star because it’s a $ 10 fee to bring a cake inside, which is… kinda unreasonable especially since they don’t have a cake selection. It’s also narks me to pay for something I had already paid for, especially since with 20 grown people we definitely spent a large amount of money in the span of 3 – 4 hours. Otherwise, this is place is good for large groups and no one will have to sit off at another table by themselves!

Went for a drink on a Friday night which also happened to be silent disco night ! While the atmosphere was definitely a fun and inviting one I noticed people waiting in lines for about 30 minutes at a time just to get a drink, which is outrageous considering you have to pay for the drink after all that waiting. Oh but security will definitely be all over you in about 3 seconds if you try to order a drink from the side, so security they have enough of bartenders not so much! Great beer prices though, just wished they were better staffed specially for a nice weathered Friday night.

My go to beer garden in NYC! Love the ambiance and neighborhood vibe to it. Good food as well. Last time I had the beef goulash served with dumplings(first time ever) and I cleaned my plate. Friend had the chicken schnitzel which came with potato salad; another winner. Draught selection is usually on point although I wish they’d add more on. As far as the live music, it wouldn’t hurt to do a sound check beforehand. My fave original beer garden hands down :)

This place is massive! Was a little off put when we first walked in as it was dark and looked like a dive bar, but after walking to the back, there is a huge downstairs area and an even more massive outdoor area(take a look at the pictures). Overall I would say it’s a pretty massive bier garden. We came on a Saturday around 5pm and this place was packed, I would say like several hundred people packed! There are a few stations to get beer, and you can also order all sorts of food. It has the feeling of a backyard barbecue, however, in my opinion, none of the food looked that great, and was quite pricey. We ended up just getting $ 6 onion rings to accompany our beers. The onion rings were pretty good, satisfied our craving for a snack! We tried two different types of beers — a pumpkin beer and a wheat beer. They offer by the glass and by pitchers which is great for groups. Both were very good. I personally prefer the quieter, cleaner bier garden scene, it seemed a little hectic here. Was just a massive outdoor space with crowds everywhere. Most tables were filled, so if you come with a big group, I recommend going earlier to hold down a spot. Was a cool spot, I think I’m just getting a little old for this to be my scene. I would recommend this place to others, depending on what kind of beer outing they were looking for. Personally, I will probably not be coming back here.

What’s not to like about this place? The atmosphere is great.(I recommend a picnic table.) Many beers at reasonable prices.(I recommend the beer.) Food is very tasty.(I recommend the kielbasa.) Service is very good!

Came here for a friend’s birthday. Not bad. Drinks aren’t too expensive $ 6 for a beer, food seems decent and although the silent clubbing is a little off putting(it’s just not my thing) it’s fun to watch people as they dance around with headphones on. Overall your average beer garden. The reason why it gets two stars instead of three: I had brought cupcakes and was told by the bouncer that if I brought them in I could pay $ 10 to the waitstaff to eat them/get them arranged on a plate. I told them okay, but thought nothing of it since I assumed my friend would probably be taking them home to eat. I assumed the $ 10 charge was to bring in cupcakes and eat them, most bars do that,(some don’t even care) but as long as you don’t eat outside food they don’t charge. My friend placed them on the table, still in their tupperware and continued ordering fries and beer and whatnot, she only took the lid off to take a photo of the cupcakes. Not eat them. Suddenly two burly security guys come up asking us whose cupcakes are on the table. I stand up and claim them, they simply ask me if the bouncer told me about the charge and don’t let me explain why I haven’t paid the $ 10 fee(which is that I tried to flag down a waiter and no one came and so they were set on the table and ignored them). We ask if we have to pay $ 10 even if we keep the cupcakes out of sight and unopened. They say yes. We pay the fee and they leave us to drink. No big deal. This isn’t so much an issue, I understand this perfectly. What I hate is that the waiter instead of simply telling us about the fee, saw the cupcakes sitting in their tupperware(no one was eating them), completely ignored me as some other people at the table ordered fries, asked who brought them, then went and got two security guards to come to our table. Mind you I’m not threatening person, 5’4 and under 120 lbs, cupcakes were plain chocolate cupcakes no alcohol or anything weird in them. and they come and basically intimidated us about the fee and just automatically put it on the tab. The waiter could have easily just told me about it and I would have paid, but he decided that he had to get security guards instead. Over a dozen cupcakes. It’s not like we were selling the darn things. Though in hindsight it’s a very hilarious situation. It’s just they didn’t even give me a chance to pay the darn fee. Hello? I was told to talk to my waiter about the fee, not pay the minute I stepped in.

My first memory of Bohemian Hall is of when they catered my First Communion party in the 70s. Over they years I’ve been there for a few parties for friends and family, and, in later years, to enjoy some drinks in the beer garden with adult friends and family. The beer selection is very good. They have my favorite, Spaaten Oktoberfest. They also have a number of imported beers, as well as domestic beers, including local microbrews. A few years back I had a Chelsea Stout(made in a brewery in the Chelsea Piers) which was pretty good. They also have a decent selection of whiskeys. The food is your basic, Eastern European, stick-to-your-ribs, fare. Their bratworst, knockworst, and kielbasa are very good. I didn’t mind their tlacenka(head cheese), but it isn’t for everyone. I liked their potato pancakes, but I have had(slightly) better ones at kosher places. Their coleslaw and potato salad are pretty good. They also have regular hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken nuggets, fries, and Buffalo wings, which are okay, but I’d recommend that one stay with the Eastern European foods. The atmosphere is very casual. The beer garden has picnic tables and it is first-come, first sit. They do have waiter/waitress service, or you could just go to the bar or the grill area. The wait service isn’t bad(considering the chaos, it’s pretty darn good), but ordering from the grill area is a bit quicker. The beer garden can get pretty loud, which, depending on your point of view, can be a plus or a minus. When I was last there, they had a pretty decent band playing classic rock covers. People were dancing, and everybody was having fun. They also have a few big screen TVs playing sports. If you want to enjoy a few beers with your friends while watching the game, this is a great place. If you want a more sedate meal, you can go to the restaurant downstairs. This is a full restaurant with sit-down table service. The menu is a bit different. I was last there a few years ago, and I really liked their sauerbraten. Basically, this is a great place to hang out with friends.

Could this place BE any better(Friends reference, anyone?)? You walk into what looks like this small bar with a few TVs, and then you’re like«wait, isn’t this a beer garden?» Behold, an entrance around the corner, that opens the door to massive — and I MEAN massive — patio with many many farm tables, an outdoor bar, and a stage for live performances. We came on a GORGEOUS Sunday afternoon, and to my shock, it wasn’t packed. It was busy, definitely, but I was worried about finding a place to sit. Little did I know this garden is so huge. I’m not sure if it’s all of the staff here, but the 4⁄5 that I had interactions with were German! Which is awesome! They’ve got decently priced food(the nachos were a bit pricey at $ 16) and the sangria is delicious. I’m really glad that this place is tucked away in wee-old Astoria, because if this was Manhattan it would be overridden by jerks. But no, this place is the ideal spot for summer chilling in the city.

Wanted to check this beer garden out for my boyfriends birthday — best decision we ever made! There was a group of about 12 people and we had to much fun here on a Saturday afternoon. When we got here, we didn’t have a table(around 5pm on a Saturday) but as it got a little later the patrons with kids cleared out and we got a long table for all of us. The beer on tap was great and pitchers were $ 16 which is very reasonable. My friends who don’t drink beer were happy as well, the mixed drinks were $ 6 – 7 dollars each. The food. WOW. So good. I got the Pierogis and they were sooooo delicious. Friends got schnitzel and the fried cheese plus pretzels. Everything was devoured. The atmosphere here was super fun and really energetic. There was a live band for a little bit which we enjoyed. What I really liked about this place is that everyone seemed pretty buzzed but there were no rowdy customers. Everyone was there to relax and enjoy an evening with friends.

They have live music, dancing, a large outdoor area with a lot of tables, and they have a pretty good beer selection. They also have a large selection of snacks! What could possibly be missing? I came here on a Saturday afternoon during a perfect summer day. Got a seat, had a pitcher or two of good beer, had a snack, and had a great time people watching and chatting with friends. Both the beer and the food are a little on the pricey side. You’ll be walking on gravel in the outside area, so be careful if you have nice shoes! It’s a bit of a trek from Manhattan, but totally worth it.

I came here for a few hours to hang out and celebrate my buddy’s birthday. He’s an awesome guy and we all came out here to have a drink or two and hang out. BUT Suddenly when i got there at 8ish on Saturday night, i noticed they had an awesomely loud band playing everything from 70’s disco to today’s hit music! They were great! live music is always great and the audience at the beer garden knew it. Everyone was having a blast and that what transforms a good night… to a great night!

Oldest beer garden in the city. Best beer garden in the city. Best place to spend a lazy weekend afternoon in Astoria. If beer halls became sentient, somehow established a schooling system, and also had yearbooks, Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden would be the one winning all the senior superlatives. There’s tons to space to hang out here, but BHBG is so popular it might be a bit of a project to find a spot to park your group in their open air beer garden. In the summertime, there’s usually some overflow into their indoor space although personally I’ve never experienced much of an issue in getting a seat outdoors. There’s a bar inside and outside, and waiters periodically drop by, so the wait for the beer(reasonably-priced at $ 6/mug and $ 16/pitcher) is never too bad. The selection is pretty diverse and interesting, too: they have about 15 different beers on tap. I remember that I had my first Blue Point here(was it the Summer Ale) which I love, but the list must rotate as it wasn’t listed on their website. The beer hall truly always has something going on. There’s usually live music on the weekends, and I once just happened to be there during some random wacky dance performances. Bohemian also functions as a community center; there is some serious Czech and Slovak programming that takes place here including language classes for children and adults and a summer camp. They also apparently have Quiet Clubbing, which is probably a good way to throw a party outdoors and at the same time be nice to your neighbors. I feel as if I’ve probably had the food here before, but I can’t remember much about it. Beer gardens will do that. I do know that they have a combination of typical American bar fare and more cultural options, which is really awesome. Note to self: go eat some schnitzel and update this review.

I much prefer this location to the larger, more corporate type one on the other side of Astoria. Down home. No frills. Still not that cheap. But good eats, decent servers, and a really great place to just chill with your peeps, be raucous, and live life!

Surprisingly, great for all ages as I’ve seen toddlers, teens, adults, and traditionalists. Huge seating outside with benches, tabletops and televisions to enjoy. They do have a smoking section as well. Inside is small, but also has a dinner area for the colder months. Great beer selection with great pricing(around 6/pint and 16/pitcher). My only issue is that in order to get dinners, you would have to order from a waiter at that tables. It was packed when I went and was only able to get food from the stand which the options were limited. Good family atmosphere and will definitely come again but will try to get a table to enjoy their authentic bohemian food.

«Outside day drinking, HELLYEAH» I have been coming to this place waaaaay before it was en vogue and I would have to say that it is one of my favorite places in NYC. It kind of has a more low key vine, compared to Studio Square and other«garden». I type«garden» because 2 trees on a patio does not make a beer garden, just saying. The various eastern european and american beers are very reasonably price(16 – 18 a pitcher). The drinking garden is HUUUGGEEE, although it may be tough to get a table on very nice days and during major sporting events but you have to be a hawk — keep your eyes peeled and know that patience is a virtue, and a table will be yours. Be aware that children come here with their parents(hopefully) frequenly but they are«kicked out» around 6⁄7 on weekends. As for dining, you can get burgers, fries, red cabbage, kielbasa, etc at the grill or you can do table service for more authentic food. Oh they are VERY strict is banning outside food(even checking bags for water bottles). So if you want to have a celebration of any sort, leave the cakes at home. I cannot wait to go back, although my liver may hate me the next day.

This place is amazing if the weather’s great as they have lots of outdoor seating. Make sure you get under those umbrellas though because that sun really does beat down on you and there isn’t much shade. The beers they had on tap, not a lot were actual German beers. They seemed to have an actual mix of all kinds of beers. I had the Angry Orchard since that’s my favorite out of the options they had. It’s only $ 6 a mug, which isn’t bad. I tried the pierogies(potato pierogies with sauerkraut for about $ 13), also pretty good. Not the best I’ve had but alright. I do want to go back when I’m hungry because I didn’t get to try some of their other amazing looking dishes because I was so full from lunch. Unlike other biergartens, this place had a really extensive food menu, which looked amazing. Perk is the bathrooms seem clean definitely! The staff was pretty attentive and awesome. They were always running around ready to get your drink or food order. There are a LOT of kids running around oddly?! Sure, they card you but then there are all these kids running all over the place. Some were playing hide and seek between the picnic tables. Not really a fan of that. Really should be 21+. Especially when people get drunk and rowdy, cussing up a storm, etc. Also, the band they had playing played — jazz music?! Didn’t seem to really fit the mood at all. This was a pretty nice biergarten to hang out with friends and drinking to chit chat. However, not the best biergarten I’ve been to.

Came here on a Friday night with friends. We went down stairs, the seating is kinda tacky but I ignored the warning signs at first. Over time I noticed the two TVs were on bad channels showing empty content. Then the screaming started … children … in a bar … on a Friday night. Kids EVERYWHERE, screaming, running, jumping down the stairs, knocking over dishes, SLAMMING the Foosball table, the pool table, etc. The parents nowhere to be found to stop them. Horrible atmosphere for a Friday … this is definitely not night life. I paid my tab and left. I will not be back.
