This is a great paved trail with a slight incline going south. We rode between Arciero and Woody Creek trailheads. There are some amazing views of green meadows and red tinted mountains, and small streams as well as the large river below. You may pass a couple historic train cars and some original rail on the way.

Absolutely wonderful. This is a very beautiful, peaceful, and serene place by the river right in town. Walk, jog, or ride your bike and be refreshed and appreciative of the beauties of nature and Aspen.

Fantastic trail for biking. We always take the trail on our rides to rudi reservoir. It goes all the way past basalt and you are not exposed to the massive hill climbs that will tax your abilities. It’s a good trail for a warm up when you first arrive at altitude The trail system is clean and well maintained

Having gotten on a bike almost 2 years ago, I was able to helmet up with the bf and ride 4 miles down this easy, scenic trail in flip flops and a skirt(with tights underneath of course)! There are a couple uphills, but if you can change gears on your bike, it’ll be easy peasy. Lots of bikers, hikers, runners, dogs and BUGS. You won’t be alone. There’s even the Aspen art museum on the way for you to check out. Free of charge!

Good trail. Paved, smooth, flat and a lot of downhill going back to Glenwood Springs. Good trail.

This trail is absolutely beautiful and long. It’s 20 miles one way from Aspen to Basalt. My boyfriend and I have enjoyed walking it in the snow… so peaceful and relaxing. We’ve noticed people walking their dogs, snowshoeing, as well as cross country skiing on this trail. Most parts are pretty secluded, away from cars, lined with trees, and runs along the Roaring Fork River. If you’re not hitting the slopes, but still want to enjoy the scenic outdoor beauty of Aspen, this is a wonderful alternative!

I really enjoyed the winding ride along the Rio Grande recently for the 4th of July weekend. Biking this trail is the perfect way to spend an afternoon, even in light stormy Colorado summer weather. Naturally, I took to this trail like any trail — I immediately thought it was better than anything that I’ve traversed in California! Native Californians know the perils of our local parks/trails, as they are not as well maintained as in many other states. My hat goes off to the folks in Aspen/Colorado who have appropriated taxes properly! The Rio Grande trail is at its best when you take the Southern route, unless you want to stop by the bridge and Arts/Museum center. There are lots of benches, and green spots to stop and catch your breath or have a picnic.
