Last year I tried to check this store out, but it was on a day it was closed so I was disappointed. This morning Alan and I had brunch at Brother’s, which is right next door. I put in our name while he parked the car and then went into Treasure Chest. They have lovely colorful ceramic switch plate covers by the front door, ones for plugs, conventional switches and the newer, broader switches. They also have numeral plates for house numbers. I asked the owner if she had any rain sticks, as the friend who is watching our house had mentioned one another friend had. They didn’t have any, but she called Cripple Creek Music at the other end of town to ask if they had any. They had one and will be open until 4:00. I don’t think we’ll make it there today, but we’ll check tomorrow on the way out of town. I really appreciated her calling on my behalf. They have pottery and rugs, but of course what drew me was the jewelry. They have a wide range of styles, many unusual. One pair caught my eye. Here it is: It was on sale. I had left my purse in the trunk, so I was dependent on Alan for his credit card. I went out to talk to him and almost immediately we were called for our table. After brunch he gave me his card and I bought the earrings, which i will wear tonight.

I was wandering around downtown Ashland on my daily walk, when I spotted this store. I had never been in it before. I was impressed, on my next trip to Ashland I will be come back here; I might even be in a buying mood when I do. The store is full of lovely turquoise jewelry, and South West art. The Native American jewelry, rugs, and pottery are another reason to stop and explore this small shop.

Treasure Chest Trading Post is located in a space formally occupied by a similar First Nations shop called Sacred World. I stopped by during our recent trip to Ashland, because it’s hard to say no to Turquoise. And I have a particular favorable bias towards artistic items from Northern New Mexico, where I briefly lived during graduate school. Treasure Chest Trading Post offers a very well curated choice of Native American jewelry, rugs, and pottery. I was tempted by many items and look forward to my return. Custom orders are accepted.
