SMOKY. Greasy. Loud. Unbelievably bad in this day and age. Clothes wreaked of smoke and grease later. Food mediocre to worse.

The food was fine, live music nice, but the best part was less than $ 7 for a double Woodford Reserve.

My friend highly recommended this place for the steaks, and she wasn’t wrong. We tried their stuffed mushrooms as the appetizer, which tasted all right — very large, very breaded mushrooms stuffed with cream cheese, served with a honey mustard sauce. Good for what they are, but there’s zero seasoning, so if honey mustard isn’t your bag, they’re extremely simple. It’s a huge helping, though. Two or more people can get their fill with one order. The New York Strip was great, as was their twice-baked potato, which was one of my sides. Very well seasoned, cooked to perfection, all around worth the price.(And $ 14 for a 10 oz strip and two sides is a good value.) Why not more stars, you might ask? The bathrooms are total cesspools. Poorly maintained, dimly lit to the point that it’s hard to tell HOW often it gets cleaned without looking closely. The appliances themselves are black seemingly so that it’s less obvious that they don’t clean them regularly and this with the lighting makes it less easy to tell that the last person to use them flushed. They’re cheap, low flush models that are really inadvisable in a restaurant — especially not at a restaurant expecting to bring in travelers and not just locals who’ve been eating God knows what throughout the day. It’s not the sort of quality you’d expect in a restaurant that’s otherwise very well maintained and commands fair but still higher pricing. Bottom line: the restaurant is lovely but using their lavatories put me in mind of a divey gas station.

Absolutely the worst Monte Cristo sandwich I’ve ever had. Pan fried but really greasy. Ham with gobs of fat stuck to it. And who puts tomatoes and pinapple on a Monte Cristo sandwich. But the most disgusting part of it all was that when the waitress brought out our meals about a dozen flies joined us for lunch. They most likely had a good head start eating our food while the plates were in the kitchen, and couldn’t resist riding along to join us at our table. Obviously they need to keep the kitchen door closed. I would have walked out, but the clients I was with didn’t seem to mind. I wish I could give zero stars

The service was fast and friendly. The environment was cool, atmosphere was cool. Has a full bar. I ordered a ribeye mid rare and it came chilly and chewy. Kinda bummed. My wife got a blackened chicken dinner that she said was good but very spicy. I was just expecting a little more quality from a bar and grill. 2nd visit. Much better. Both my wife and I got burgers. They were pretty good. The kitchen will only do medium well and well, nothing else for burgers. Server was great always checking on us, refills too. My only complaint was we had to wait ten minutes but when we were eventually seated — we passed 7 empty clean tables. I bumped up from a two star to three. 3rd visit. Well my first visit I gave 2 stars, 2nd visit I upped it to 3 stars and 3rd visit down to 1 star. This visit didn’t even happen. My wife and I went to Callahan’s on Thursday at 5:45pm on a Thursday in which the hostess took it upon herself to mingle with a friend and another person came in and she embrace this person while 8 people were waiting to be seated. Sorry unacceptable. Serve your customer before you«mingle» if you should mingle at all at work. I was very upset, so we left. So disrespectful. If management is looking to coach this person, this took place by the person working the front at 5:45pm on 11⁄5. Thanks.

Well there wasn’t a line to get in. But I wish we’d gone somewhere else anyway. I ordered a house salad and a flatbread pizza. Now, at a restaurant where the main entrees only cost $ 8-$ 12, I assumed a $ 5 side salad would be a decent size side salad with onions etc. But I was wrong. It was a tiny salad that didn’t even fill up the cereal bowl that they served it in. The lettuce was wilted, and it was almost all cheese. The only high point was the half of a breadstick it was served with(although really? Half?). My pizza came out and it was a decent size for one person, but it just wasn’t very good. It looked like they dumped Parmesan cheese on the bread and melted it, and then set half a cherry tomato on each piece. It was supposed to have spinach too but I didn’t see any. My friends Monte Cristo was odd. It wasn’t so much a Monte Cristo as it was a ham and pineapple grilled cheese sandwich with lettuce and tomato added. My husband liked his burger. Side note — the regular fries are good, but the sweet potato fries come with a caramel sauce poured all over them. I didn’t care for the caramel sauce.

Place is ok. Everyone smokes there and food is ok. Service is sub optimal. I think the only reason this place is still open is because its the only bar and grill in town, so towns people don’t have a choice. The smoke in the place is disgusting and overwhelming, especially when you are trying to eat.

The waiter was running around doing nothing. Two people in my party had their food mixed up. One person had his food taken back. Was not cooked to liking. Expensive meal. Not worth the price. They were out of several foods including mashed potatoes. Who runs out of them?

I do love live music so it was a treat that they were having an open mic night upstairs when we went to dine in. It was just a tad too loud to be in a group and have conversation, but we were still able to talk in between songs. I couldn’t decide what to get so I ordered the sampler which included fried stuffed mushrooms, buffalo wings and loaded potato skins. It was okay. Not great, but decent. The meal came with ranch, sour cream and a weird honey mustard also. My buddy’s hot brown looked good. I wished I had ordered that instead. The first time I went to Callihan’s I ordered their French Onion soup and it was quite tasty.

Good service. Fair food. Had the Hot Brown and opted for mixed vegetables, instead of potatoes. Seemed that the turkey on the Hot Brown was sliced«packaged deli» style — the most disappointing part of the order. The open mic music was good, but too loud for the room.

The food at Callahans was reasonably priced. The portion size was adequate. The food was not bad. Nothing special, but nothing to really complain about. They had live music which was nice, however it was so loud it was hard to carry on any type of conversation.

I made the mistake of visiting Callihan’s before seeing a movie at the KYOVA10. We were seated by the hostess in a «non smoking» area, but it’s difficult to escape cigarette smoke. Our server was inattentive and we had to wait almost 15 minutes before our drink order was taken. From there, it was another 10 minutes for appetizer order and then 10 minutes to wait to receive our appetizer and place our entrée order. Entrees came out quickly, but we still ended up with less than 20 minutes to eat as we were seeing a movie at the theater across from the restaurant. It was like pulling teeth to get her attention. I ordered the chicken tenders which came with french fries. It was a huge portion, which is just fine for the price. However, you could tell that they were not fresh. Now I don’t mind frozen chicken tenders, but for the price I think that it would behoove them to serve freshly breaded chicken. The appetizer was stuffed cheese breadsticks. Again, they appeared that they were not a freshly made product. For the price, I would just as soon visit another restaurant in Ashland. I won’t be patronizing Callihan’s again.

Yeah, been here like five times. Food is always between ok and dog food. Seriously I have had some bad food here. The waiters have always been pretty nice though. I came in one night before a movie to have a drink and the female bartender was just plain rude. Did not care for her or her snarky mouth.

Chicken stir fry tasted as salty and unfresh as a microwave dinner. But you can smoke at the bar! Yuck!!!

Not a bad joint. Good service, reasonable prices, the specials rotate, and the food is pretty good. My wife and I have been there twice and we enjoyed it both times. One of the better places to go in Ashland.

Do not order steak here, it is a pressed meat product. It was not tastey at all. The surface wasn’t the best, and two appetizers we wanted to order they were out of.

Mediocre food and bad service. I went there hoping for a fun local experience. I was very disappointed. The buffalo chili was decent, but lacked any real flavor. The fish and chips that were recommended by the server came out at 1 fillet with wavy potato chips. The batter was bland, the coleslaw was swimming in watery dressing and the tartar sauce tasted like pure mayonaise. It took 10min to get recognized by anyone then another 10 to place an appetizer order. Then it took 20min from when i asked for the check to actually pay the bill. The prices were high for the quantity and quality of the food. Go for the decent bar, but eat somewhere else.
