My first time at the Brickroom. Had a party of five. We were 45 minutes late for our reservation on a Friday night. We called and they said they’d hold our table for us since we called ahead to let them know. They kept their promise! Upon arrival, immediate greet and seat. Drinks orders on the spot. Atmosphere/décor is half contemporary, half rustic. It works! No clashing at all. Tables a little small, but we managed because our server cleared empty dishes as necessary. Most of the observed patrons in the establishment were semi-casual dressed, as were we, although I had my suit on due to an art gallery show we attended. Very comfortable. I think they serve all hours/meals during the day, but we just came for dinner, so I’m not 100% about the schedule. Ordered the dirty fries, shared as an appetizer. Between the five of us, one order was the perfect amount. Entrée’s ordered ranged from a French Dip to Cioppino, and Shrimp & Grits to a Flat Iron Steak. All were prepared perfectly and delicious. Just one slight issue with the cut of steak having too much fat, but the chef corrected that by bringing out a sample of beef short ribs. Again, wonderful! Drinks were reasonably priced for an Ashland bar. They were also excellent, not to mention the service/friendly staff and skilled kitchen crew. Another hot sport to add to my Ashland list! Thank you, Brickroom for a super fantastic first-time experience!

We had a great experience at Brickroom. We arrived early on a Saturday night to watch some football. They have several TV’s along the bar so we were able to find a table in front of a television. We started off with their seasonal mojito’s(orange) and the pretzel bread and fondue. All of which were excellent. For our main course we ordered the french dip and dirty fries and a special which was no mac mac n cheese(lobster with spatzle topped with a crab cake). My husband said the french dip was really good, the dirty fires were amazing and is served with their house made ranch dressing which is a gem all alone. The no mac n cheese was spectacular. We ordered too much food so took most of it home, but our waitress was awesome and brought us containers not only for the food but for the au jus and the ranch. There was no pressure to hurry up and turn the table, our waitress was great about letting us sit and enjoy our drinks and the football game. Looking forward to going back.

We were there on a busy Saturday night. It was 30 degrees and we were placed by a side door that people kept going through. We had reservations but we still had to wait ½ hour before we were seated. Our waiter, although very well versed with the menu, had a major attitude. One plate came out of the kitchen, then 6 minutes later, another plate, then 2 minutes later another, 1 plate at a time. The only reason for the decent score is that everyone enjoyed the food which was very good.

My husband and I loved this place! We had lunch here in a cold December Sunday and it was great! The waiting stuff is very friendly and the ambience really cool. They focus on local fare for food and wine and the dishes are delicious!

Service, service, service. This is a service industry and service was an epic fail. Décor is great, dessert was ok. Very bitter espresso pull. Somebody needs to be a trained barista.

We’ve been to the Brickroom numerous times now. Each visit, the staff has been wonderful — kind, attentive, funny, helpful. As other reviews mention, the renovations after Alex’s closed make the place lighter, more airy and certainly the atmosphere feels more open and welcoming. This is a great venue, as Alex’s was, for live music through the week as well! The menu boasts a number of small plates, as well as sandwiches, salads, and entrees. We have only been here during dinner hours, although I’ve heard that the brunch items are quite delicious. Some of the food items we’ve tried are as follows: Chicken Tenders — these are made with Draper Valley organic chicken that has been dunked in a rice flour batter, served with the house shoestring fries and house-made ranch dressing. These may be one of my favorite things I’ve had at the Brickroom. The portion is generous enough to share as a small plate option, but also filling if you desire them only for yourself!(My opted choice!) Cubano — this sandwich is made with Cuban bread that’s filled with Oregon raised ham, Tillamook swiss cheese, mustard, house-made pickles and pork belly. The sandwich was a little greasier than I would’ve preferred, but still flavorful. Pulled Pork Sandwich — the slow roasted espresso rubbed pork is tender, flavorful and downright tasty! The sandwich is also served with house-made BBQ sauce, slaw and fried onions, served on a brioche bun. Very, very tasty! Shrimp and Grits — my husband has ordered this numerous times. The proportions in this entrée are nice — wild white prawns are served on a bed of creamy polenta. Since he doesn’t eat meat aside from seafood, he requests no lardons. The polenta is also served topped with sauteed with vegetables and a parmesan cheese sauce. While he enjoys the sauce, he doesn’t like the addition of sautéed zucchini in this dish. As far as drinks go, the signature cocktails are about averagely priced for any bar in town. The bar service is attentive, and the selections of both beers and the full bar stock are excellent.

Love the atmosphere and décor of this place! Great job on reinventing the space! The food here is pretty good. Really tasty = dirty fries! Not so awesome = pretzel with fondue. It wasn’t actually a pretzel, but rather bread… and the fondue was cold. Not worth the money at all. Chicken tenders were great, though.

I consider myself a pretty well-versed Ashland dining connoisseur, and this is by far my favorite restaurant in town. I’ve even been there twice in one day, I love it so much! The menu is eclectic and flavorful, the aesthetics and ambience top-notch, and the staff are all very friendly. Plus I’m always amazed at how affordable it is given the gourmet quality of their food. I’ve eaten(and drank) my way through half their menu, and haven’t found anything I didn’t like. My top choice is the pulled pork sandwich with Noble espresso rub(my mouth is watering just thinking about it – I can’t believe they only charge $ 10 for this sandwich). I only eat meat that’s humanely raised, and pretty much all the meat on their menu passes that test. My second favorite menu item would be the Northwest salad(gotta love those Oregon pears!) and third the Crab & Artichoke Ravioli. For appetizers, go with the Dirty Fries. For drinks, they have a gorgeous full bar, and if I’m not ordering my standard Makers whisky sour, I love their rendition called the Caterpillar: whiskey, mint, and kumquat marmalade. OH – and I almost forgot the most important course, dessert! Definitely order the affogato: ice cream with hardened chocolate sauce with a shot of espresso poured over the top. Italian for«drowned,» I learned about this dessert from the Brickroom, and now I make it at home! Finally, being a graphic designer, I LOVE the décor of this place. Very hip and modern with fantastic branding throughout. The staff seem to match the edgy, eclectic vibe and I often sit at the bar to eat because it’s so fun talking to them. My only wish is that they had a punchcard or loyalty program since so much of my monthly paycheck goes to the Brickroom!

The bar and grill is located high above Ashland Plaza in a huge room with front and back balconies. On a cool day after the Oregon Shakespeare season ended, there were few customers for lunch. Joe’s scramble: «eggs with baby spinach, sweet onion, Parmesan, and ground beef. Topped with crispy wild mushrooms and Sweety drop peppers. Served with grilled whole wheat sourdough bread.“It was great though there was more ground beef than I expected so it was a very filling high protein lunch. This is a bar and grill so don’t expect fancy dinners but do expect very good food.

This is my son’s favorite hamburger in Ashland. He is 9 years old and has this funny predilection for either high-end fancy grass fed burgers, or fast food burgers. He hates anything in between, such as Louie’s on the same street. He is also obsessed with the pretzel bread, actually we all are. It is on the menu for 4 $ and comes with cheese, but they will bring it to you for 1 dollar or free(either one has happened to us) if you request just the bread. Overall we have found the service very accommodating to our picky orders. The prices are also pretty darn good for the amount of good you get versus the high quality. The chicken tenders and pulled pork sandwich are also really good, as are the fries. Pretty much anything I order from Brickroom I have trouble finishing in one sitting, which I think is a good thing. Down the street at the Homestate BBQ, I have the opposite problem. For the same price, their pulled pork sandwich does not fill me up.

First time here. Initial greeting was good but now we have waited 40 minutes and still no food not even an appetizer avocado with toast didn’t seem that hard. Our waitress seems to be avoiding us. Update 50 minutes later food arrived all at once. It was not bad but not worth the wait. Our waitress did get us another beer on the house nice gesture but a little communication would have been worth allot more.

I’ve never given a restaurant a 2 star review before. We were in Ashland last week and our fave restaurant was closed. We wanted outdoor dining along the creek so we thought we would try Brickroom. That experience was very positive, the food was excellent, our server Ricky was funny and knowledgeable, the wines were interesting. The experience was so good, we decided that we wanted to dine at Brickroom again on our return trip to CA so we could try a few more menu items. The second visit was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. We again asked to be seated on the patio. This time, after sitting on the patio for 10 minutes with no server, my husband went in to try and find out what was going on. He was told that they weren’t sure they had a server for the patio or that they were even actually still serving food on the patio(it was 7pm). Jonathan, our server, finally came out and apologized blaming a different server inside the restaurant. We placed our orders(the restaurant was out of the wine we wanted, but these things do happen). The food came out promptly, brought by the hostess. My veggie po’boy and my husband’s tuna melt were delicious, but the experience was marred by another guest coming out to the small patio to smoke. I was sure the patio was non-smoking, so imagine my surprise when our server Jonathan joined this person for a cigarette — right in the middle of our dinner service. We finished quickly and when the hostess came with the check, I asked her if the patio was non-smoking. The owner/manager came out to confirm that it was until 9pm(it was 7:45 at the time). About 30 seconds after the owner said the patio was non smoking, someone else came out and started smoking. We left. Jonathan, my husband didn’t want to leave you any tip, but I don’t play that way. Consider the $ 10 I slipped into the envelope a parting gift. We won’t be back. I hope the owner/manager takes the opportunity to do a little staff training.

Good vibes all around here! The décor is by far the coolest I’ve seen for a restaurant in a long time. It’s a mixture of vintage and modern, and the music they play is perfect. We had the eggs Benedict, Migas scramble, a Bloody Mary and mimosa, cappuccino and drip coffee. The eggs Benedict was bomb — the eggs were poached perfectly, hollandaise was on point, and the ham was thin and crispy. The potatoes on the side are crispy and seem to have some sort of bacon on it. Yum! The Migas simple yet delicious(one could say, simply delicious. haha). Anything with avocado wins. And the sauce was zesty and flavorful. The Bloody Mary was incredible! The horse radish addition was on point. And the mimosa was good too, with blood orange juice to change it up. Our only deduction was service. All the staff were super friendly but it was a little slow(especially for being less busy). Overall though, I’d still definitely recommend this place!

Coffee at Breakfast is a no brainer, right? I had to ask three different employees before I finally got a cup. The food here is good, the service is sorely lacking. It seems to me that this business is in need of more hands on management on the floor during peak times. The could profit from some older, experienced servers who want a steady job and good tips. I’m guessing but I think they’re hiring college kids for part time work. If I had to guess the hostess I asked for coffee walked alway muttering«it’s not my job» and did not ask anyone to serve me. The waitress who took my order heard me say coffee, coffee, coffee. She still didn’t get me a cup. Watching the rest of the patrons around me and the servers coming and going just made me shake my head. Inefficient is the kindest way I describe it. First time in years I did not leave over 20%.

Waited at the«Wait to be Seated» sign for several minutes. Then an employee walked past and said we could sit anywhere. There were many open tables. No human greeting for first 5 minutes. Macchiato is foam over espresso-not just a small latte! Had to raid another table’s sugar for coffee! One server for for entire restaurant. She is scrambling. Serving and bussing, seating and answering the phone! There is a bartender and manager and that is it for front of the house staff at 11:00 am on a weekend. She had a very pleasant attitude nevertheless. The eggs were great, although not super filling. The sandwich was«pretty good» according to my GF. It’s a gorgeous day and apparently there is outdoor seating. Wish we had been made aware of that BEFORE leaving. It could be a really good spot as long as they don’t cheap out on staff!

While I loved the décor, the cavernous loft space seemed to work best as a bar, coffeehouse and entertainment venue. As a dining venue, it felt a bit off and our service left a lot to be desired. The staff seemed far more interested in interacting with each other than their customers. For lunch service, we had one hit and one miss. The Northwest Salad with the addition of chicken was a lovely dish. The Panzanella Chop Salad was a miss. Very acidic. And rather than a traditional iced tea, we ordered their Blueberry iced tea which was very bitter. Two specific service notes… when the beverages were delivered the server dropped them off and ran. And because we were dining at the rear of the restaurant and most of the activity during the lunch hour was at the front of the restaurant and the long bar, she rarely checked in and wasn’t in ‘flagging down’ range. So in order to attempt to drink the beverage, I had to raid a recently departed table for sugar. Similarly, our salads were dropped off and then only quite a bit later did she ask if we wanted fresh ground pepper. Asked, but didn’t have the pepper shaker with her, so she departed again. Definitely basic training issues for the staff. Looking at the other menus, I think I will give them another try for a different meal. Perhaps breakfast and coffee or dinner and drinks. But, I’ll be a little more choosy about where we are seated. I like the front of the house lounge more than the back of the room.

We went here three times during our five day stay in Ashland — once for brunch, once for a quick sandwich at the bar, and once for dinner. All were perfectly nice. The Cubano sandwich is kind of small and could something else on the plate, but it was very tasty. The egg dishes for brunch were not huge, but that’s okay by us, and they were good. We had a table full of appetizers for dinner, all of which were good. Another real plus is the room itself. They’ve done a great job of making a nice airy, bright, casual place out of what had been a stodgy place before. Add to that a very good bar and a very nice staff and you have a good place for a bite.

hmm this place is a mixed bag. theres potential and a lot of room for improvement. they got their meat game down, but the carbs fail. we got the chicken fried steak and chicken and waffles. dirty fries, steak was tender, and chicken was moist. the bacon based white gravy was savory and cream. however… while the waffle was crisp, it was kinda bland. the biscuits for the chicken fried steak was rather dense and dry. dirty fries took 20+ mins to come out and it was cold. i wanted a beer, but half the stuff on their menu was out of stock? service was a tad on the slow side. we came in at 1 and the place was only ¼ full, but it took 30 plus mins to get our food. more than one table had to flag the wait staff down to get their attention. the place had more than enough wait staff, about 5 and only 10 tables were present. i really wanted to like the place. it has nice ambiance, wait staff was nice(but slow), and the dishes have potential.

The atmosphere is awesome, honestly one of the best in the valley. We had fantastic customer service and we really enjoyed the pretzel bread fondue! We got three small plates, a large plate, dessert and a drink for just over $ 40. That’s awesome in Ashland! We will be back for sure!

We really like the ambience here. It has a really good vibe for a new place, and we were very impressed with the variety of small plate options to choose from. It’s a fine refresh of the old Alex’s restaurant, and we’re happy to see what they’ve done. Service has been great in the times we’ve gone, with the waitstaff being both friendly and helpful. The proprietor(we think) stopped by a few times to also check-in which was nice. We would recommend the wings, which are plentiful and can come in 3 different varieties(classic hot wings, szechwan style, or honey pepper). We went with the honey pepper option and devoured them. We also ordered the beet salad… which was a fairly small portion size. Portion size being one medium-sized sliced beet, with goat cheese in between the slices. The appearance was nice, the taste was fine, but probably too small to be a re-order from us. The tuna melt was very satisfying, so the portion size there worked well for me. The chicken tenders were also good, and they came with their ‘thin cut’ fries, which I should take time to highlight. I like fries thin, and this is the only place around here that does them this way. Really delicious, perfectly done fries… so yeah, order those. Pretty good selection of craft brews were available, so that’s a plus too. I think it’s a good alternative to the Black Sheep if you’re around this area of town.
