Really nice place. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, good selection of gear. A bit small with limited inventory. But beyond that double-plus good.

This is absolutely the best outdoor store around. The employees are extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. Frank spent nearly an hour helping my wife select the right pair of hiking boots for her and she couldn’t be happier. You won’t get that kind of service at REI. Definitely stop in if you’re in the area!

I can’t say enough about the Ashland Outdoor Store. For the size of store, the selection is incredible, and, unlike REI, you’d be hard-pressed to find a staff member who isn’t knowledgeable. Have found hiking footwear, backpacking equipment, ultra-light packing equipment, every-day clothing… They’ve just about everything in the store.

Ashlanders, many other Oregonians and too many visitors spend much of their time wandering through to Cascades/Siskiyou backcountry disturbing the wildlife. This is one of several excellent Ashland stores that caters to and supplies the needs of these outdoorsy types and those who want to look the part. The merchandise is high quality and priced accordingly. But there are good sales and some equipment, such as snowshoes, can be rented. The staff on the whole is very knowledgeable about local outdoor sports, except perhaps biking since it is not a bike shop. Though one time my wife and I rented snowshoes and were taken on a shop-sponsored hide on Mt. Ashland to learn to snowshoe and test the equipment. It was supposed to be an hour’s walk but the store employee leader got sort of lost and we were out for three hours. Aside from deciding we liked the sport and got a feel for what snowshoes to wear we also learned to always carry emergency supplies and equipment.

Every trip I make a purchase. Yes a smaller version of REI but still an excellent selection. Oh yeah… NOSALESTAX!!! Always the newest gear from Patagonia which is a favorite of mine. I picked up a pair of hiking boots last year after some great service from the staff and wore them a bunch this past year. The place is always one of my favorite stops when in Ashland.

The staff at the Ashland Outdoor Store are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable when it comes to, not only outdoor gear, but information about the endless outdoor possibilities in the Rogue Valley. They’ve got a great selection of gear and, as some have mentioned, a phenomenal sales floor upstairs. It’s definitely a place worth checking out if you are visiting town.

The Ashland Outdoor Store carries an incredible selection of high quality outdoor items. As another reviewer said, it’s like a small REI. We purchase our hiking boots, socks, camping and backing gear, outdoor clothes for all season and other accessories here. Service is terrific — the staff knows outdoor gear from firsthand experience. There’s a new customer service focus. The store has two annual sales — on the first day of each of the sales it’s a mob scene, but it’s worth it. Prices are marked way down.

The Ashland Outdoor Store reminds me of small version of REI or MEC(Canada). I stopped in last Saturday while Gayle was over at Earthly Goods trying on clothes. It’s a tiny bit off the beaten track, but worth the modest effort to look around. As Jen K. mentions, the sale area upstairs is worth a look and during my visit the selection didn’t fit what I thought I might be looking for. The main floor had some neat stuff, although that cool portable snow shovel might have to wait for next season. Store staff were friendly and knowledgeable and were visible and invisible at the right times.

One of those stores that is very hit or miss for me. I go every time I’m in town and have picked up some great items over the years from their sale area upstairs in the attic — 40% off. This latest visit, there was a meager selection of sale items, mainly coats, so I left empty handed. They carry a large selection(at full price) of three of my favorite outdoor lines: Royal Robbins, Horny Toad and Patagonia. They also had a bunch of Sherpani Bags that I’ve been eyeing a long time. Employees are generally friendly and helpful, but they always seem to congregate in a pack at the cashier area.
