Ashland Hills Shell

I have this gas station programmed into my Garmin. Why? On road trips to and from California (which I do several times a year), we always make it a point to stop here and load up on soda!
I didn’t know this place existed until about two years ago — we stopped for gas and I wanted a drink. I walked in the door, looked at the coolers, and walked back outside and woke up my napping boyfriend and told him, «You’ve got to come inside and see this place.»
This unassuming little gas station has probably 200 varieties of sodas now, including Moxie, which I hadn’t seen since I moved from New Hampshire. (I made the bf try it. The nicest thing one can say about Moxie is: it starts like root beer, and finishes like a Fisherman’s Friend cough drop.) They even have orange and blue Moxie.
Key lime crème soda, older brands like Bubble Up, you name it, it’s here. Old, new, never heard of it before, if it has a funny name or a quirky label, a curious flavor, or an interesting shape to it, it’s here.
Stop on your next road trip. Pick up four things you’ve never tried before (hello, celery soda?!). You’ll favorite this spot in your Garmin, too!
