Pricey and a bit weird inside. Great concerts and Nice workers. The space feels open and weird.

It’s odd, every time I go here, I like it more and more. The first time I went I thought that The Mothlight was a boring venue, big, open, dark room, not much to see or look at. But over my many visits, I have come to appreciate the venue space. It isn’t huge but not tiny either. There are tall ceilings and lots of space to dance around while listening to music because of it’s openness. The Bar is nice and big and I’ve always had friendly service. My favorite part of this venue is that in the back there is actually an art gallery. I’ve seen a bunch of different types of art here. I’ve attended an art opening for a college graduate show, and most recently a PBR themed art show. There is also a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game back there. The venue hosts some really cool music, from folk to sing-alongs to punk rock. They have multiple days a week with no cover to get in, which I really appreciate.

Great venue for shows! The open space has great acoustics and can fit many people comfortably. The bar tenders have always been cordial and efficient and the back gallery space provides interesting local art and design. Certainly not a spot to miss on Haywood road.

Super cool venue, took me a while to get over here since I never know any of the bands that are playing but got a chance to go twice recently, for Sankofa and Wayne Hancock. The club is cool, sound is OK(tough to baffle a brick building), and the crowd is quite ecclectic. I really enjoy the bar and the bartenders are quite good! There is also a sweet little room in back if the music or crowd gets too much for you. I’ll be heading there more often… even when I don’t know the bands!

The Mothlight is very much the underdog of the concert venues in Asheville. It’s location is prime, right in the middle of West Asheville in walking distance of some great after-show restaurants. The stage itself isn’t huge and makes for some intimate performances. The interior of the building itself is really nice, with high ceilings, dark-stained wood, and exposed brick. It’s an airy, open space with a nice, long bar and a hangout room in the back. They usually have a rotating exhibit of local art hanging on the walls back there, which I always enjoy checking out. It’s definitely not where the larger acts perform, but it’s an awesome place to see smaller national and local acts. The atmosphere is lovely and warm. PS it’s a cash only door, so go buy a 99¢ Hot Wheels car with cash back if you need to from the Ingles around the corner… I hear they’re going to start a wall collection of them soon!

Enter through the Mothlight’s central doors, door station to the right as well as the window lounge area and full bar along the right side wall. All the way straight through the back space gallery with sitting area are bathrooms to the left. A well-appointed stage and dance floor in the back left side corner can be seen from most anywhere in the club. In the left side windows corner behind the soundboard is where you’ll find the merchandise tables selling shirts and recordings by touring and local bands. The Mothlight is a spacious place, good for a drink anytime, and occasionally holding special events such as craft fairs, burlesque and dance shows, and swap meets. But overall, the Mothlight is one of thee best live music venues in town, hell, the nation, with astute and adventurous tastes. Check out one of their free no-cover charge Mothlight Mondays which can feature quality bills of touring and local music acts.

Asheville loves music, and the Mothlight is a super solid venue to catch shows by national touring acts, local heroes, and even a movie night here or there as well! The Mothlight is perfectly vast. High ceilings and wide open floors make this a great place to enjoy a performance without feeling claustrophobic or suffocated. The sound here is great as well, definitely on par with the Grey Eagle and the Orange Peel for clarity, depth, and acoustics. Their sound person has really got the system dialed in incredibly well for the room. The bar typically runs specials on its already affordable drinks, which is very pleasant. It’s a full bar, rather than just beer and wine, and they have an ample selection of spirits. Aside from great drinks and awesome performances, you can also get your classic arcade gaming action on here with an original Mortal Kombat 2 cabinet, and a terrifically well modified and updated four person Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cabinet. The joysticks glow!

This place deserves more reviews! If you are visiting Asheville and looking to catch a live show then check out their website. I changed my dates around my training dates so that I could see Natural Child. If you dig indie music then you would want to check out this place for live music. I always try to catch a show in a city while I am on holiday or travel for work and this place has a decent calendar oh and an art gallery apparently. Not sure if it is The Mothlight’s per say but there is a art gallery in the rear of the building. Drinks… Well priced with a decent whisky selection with a heavy pour!

Well deserved rating for a perfect addition to Aville. Finally an Indie rock club. Saw Yuck, Alvvays, and soon Sebadoh. Great beer… great art.
