SO thankful that this location exists! This is the only delicious restaurant on the Patton strip that has breakfast, lunch and dinner.(Gypsy Queen and Bonfire are great too but not as healthy or diverse). Everything is delicious and they do an amazing job of catering to gluten, dairy and meat sensitivities. The atmosphere is cozy and clean — great place to work on laptop or come with a friend. Customer service is sweet too. The only improvement I’d love is stronger coffee and to make the soysage less mushy.

We don’t live in Asheville but try to visit a few times a year. Walking into green sage this morning, I realized it is probably the place we have been most often, between the westgate and downtown locations. We tend to prefer the westgate location because it is big and bright and has booths and easy parking. Favorite things include the chia seed pudding bowl, the apple cinnamon oatmeal, the tempeh soysage and vegan biscuits, and tea selection. Easy, tasty, and reliable. Will keep coming back for vegan breakfast as long as green sage is around!

I don’t know why this location only gets 3 stars while the downtown one gets 4?! The staff here is always much more polite and helpful, there’s plenty of comfy booth seating, the Internet connection is much more stable, the food is always consistent and the bathrooms here not only have multiple stalls, but are usually pretty clean. This is seriously my family’s favorite stop to grab a quick bite. I can usually trust what comes out of their kitchen. The only reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5 is that they pride themselves on being a healthy alternative to eating out/fast café food, but don’t offer any fresh fruit or veggie sides?! So strange.

I am only reviewing vegan options here so if you’re not vegan, this may not apply to you. My husband were in town for a wedding over the weekend and friends of ours who just moved to Asheville suggested the place for the vegan options since both my husband and I are. I looked at the menu online and got sooo excited for vegan biscuits and gravy. As someone from the south residing in the north, this is the one thing I REALLY look forward to finding when I road trip. I know it can be done well because my favorite vegan restaurant in Orlando, Ethos, does an AMAZING vegan biscuits and gravy. So we both ordered a tempeh soy biscuit w/a side of gravy, and a side of tofu scramble. Start to finish it was disgusting. I am normally not a picky eater and can stomach just about anything, but this was just down right gross. The biscuit both looked and tasted like what I imagined a soggy dog cookie tastes like. I’ve literally never even seen a biscuit look like that. The gravy was this watery mushroom broth w/whole chunks of onion and mushy mushrooms in it, last I checked gravy is creamy, this was the equivalent of a really bad mushroom soup. The tempeh soy stuff, tasteless mush. Lastly, I don’t know how you screw up tofu scramble, but they did. There was SOMUCHPARSLEY in it. My husband took one bite and couldn’t finish it. I hate wasting food so I tried to struggle through, but seriously wow. What a disappointment. The only saving grace and reason for the 2 vs. 1 star was the smoothies we got a couple mornings later. We obviously knew not to eat the food there, but as desperate and hungry vegans on a Monday morning trying to get on the road to head back home, this was out option. I had the almond brothers, pretty good, and my husband had the green machine, he said it was«ok.»

Such a convenient location and perfectly nice waitstaff, when the food quality surpasses the bag of pirate’s booty I can buy next door at Earthfare I’ll be thrilled.

We stopped here for breakfast on a Saturday morning and it was not crowded as this is the location outside of downtown Asheville. It is counter service so we placed out order and sat down. It has a nice mountain ambience with tables outside and in, as well as some cushy chairs and a window seat that you could curl up with a book in. The menu has your basic eggs, as well as juices, coffee, tea, lunch items and more. The best thing about this place is that there if something for everyone. So if members of your party are vegan, lactose intolerant, gluten free, or bacon lovers, everyone should be able to find something.

I was pretty disappointed. The portion was a very small for the price. The take out took quite a long time, for what it was. I’m not heading back over there even though it’s super close to my house

This place is absolutely AMAZING from start to finish. There are not many restaurants that actually care about sustainability like green sage does. Not only do they have compost recycle and landfill clearly labeled for your disposal of waste, the paper products or plastic products used for to-go orders are all biodegradable. The staff here is quite friendly and eager to help you. Best of all being vegan and living in South Florida can sometimes be rough, this place has plenty of options for the carnivore and herbivore alike.

Loved the lattes, chai tea, pumpkin chocolate chip muffin and had a great breakfast burrito. Everything seems quality made with real and wholesome ingredients.

I was surprised by how much I liked this place. It’s sparkling clean and unpretentious. The décor recalls a very nice McDonalds(this is not at all meant as an insult; McDonald’s latest redesign was extremely well done), or perhaps the café at the exit of an Ikea. A form-follows-function aesthetic, nothing fanciful, but comfortable and not distracting. Green sage wins on all points of the Asheville Coffee-Wifi-Parking trifecta. Coffee is perfectly adequate, wifi is excellent(no password, free), and parking is… well, it’s situated right in the middle of a giant parking lot, so draw your own conclusions. What it lacks in atmosphere and cool factor, it makes up for in efficiency and convenience. I ordered a 5 dollar sausage and egg biscuit that I was expecting would taste vile. It didn’t taste vile at all. The biscuit was… pretty dang good. Reminded me of a biscuit from Bojangles(that’s a compliment, btw). The sausage was good. It tasted like actual sausage, not some hippie pastiche made from soy products. The eggs were good. They tasted like just nice eggs. It was a good size for the price, and very satisfying. The coffee came in a 12 ounce mug with(one?) free refill. It cost 2.50, I think. A little overpriced, but not outrageous. Quiet acoustics, not crowded, plenty of room to spread out. Not convenient to much in Downtown AVL, unless you’re planning on shopping at Earth Fare or Sam’s Club or Jackson’s Western Gear. But if you’re in that neck of the woods, it’s nice to know there’s a reliable place to grab a quick joe.

I went in for a quick lunch and order the avocado BLT and I waited 20 minutes for to come out. The bacon is so hard that it shred the roof of my mouth and then on top of that I notice the taste of cilantro so I went up and asked the person at the counter if there was cilantro in this sandwich. He said it was in mayonnaise. Once I told him how I absolutely cannot do cilantro he just offered to make the sandwich I said no that’s okay, I really didn’t like this sandwich. He never offered a refund. I paid eight dollars for just a sandwich… it didn’t even come with a side.

I like the nice open airy feel of this location. It also has plenty of outside seating. They serve AppalaChai which is the best, and as a chai drinker I always like to see this brand over the sugary commercial blends. They also serve local kombucha on draft. The food has been, «eh.» I bought a sandwich recently and was a little surprised that there was no little side of chips or something. For the price, it seemed like a few chips would have been a nice add. So, I’m not inclined to go back there just for the food, but I do find myself there when I have a work meeting. It’s been a good place to meet up for a cup of coffee or tea and talk.

I previously reviewed this place and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately I need to change my review. I’ve given this place SO many chances but I have come to the conclusion that it’s just not good. Their lattes are subpar and their food is just okay. I wanted to love it. The only item I did like, they changed the recipe and it’s just not as good. Disappointing

It’s hard to find healthy breakfast grub around these parts– the green sage fills that gap. We’ve visited a couple of times in the last few weeks to eat breakfast. I had the breakfast bowl with rice– black beans– two eggs– sweet potatoes and a guacamole salsa to top it off. Delicious and nutritious. Josh had an omelet with sausage and biscuit(a good man meal) we both had dark roasts. The coffee is great– that’s really important to me. Nothing more disappointing than being served sub par joe when you want your fix. This green sage is in the west gate shopping plaza… so it’s right next to earthfare to get your grocery shopping on. Best part– friendly staff who insisted on giving us to go cups for our coffee as we were leaving. We like smiling faces– they never get old. Thanks y’all!

Green Sage Westgate is, at the time of this review, the newest location for this locally owned company. Personally it is my favorite one — the café is light and airy, wonderfully open with ample seating and lots of windows. If I was basing this review on the space alone it would get 5 stars. I’ve eaten at various Green Sages throughout Asheville and my experience has always been pleasant. The food can take an extended period of time to arrive, but always tastes pretty good. Their chai lattes are great — a bit spicy, which I personally love. The reason I give Green Sage three stars is mostly due to price. Today I purchased a lemonade, which cost $ 2 for less than 6 ounces of drink. Granted I understand it is fresh juice and of high quality, but I feel that type of cost will prevent me from frequently the establishment on a regular basis. The food is similarly priced, although their coffee is on par with average pricing around town. I can on average get similar style and type of food for less impact on my wallet and perhaps more generous portions at other local establishments.

I once loved their curried chicken wrap, but the last two times it should have been called a lettuce wrap. It might have had two tablespoons of chicken salad with a ton of lettuce. I even told them today that they needed to make up for the previous time, and I got a lettuce wrap again! not for seven dollars!

Was there yesterday for brunch. Maybe it was just a bad day for them. Ordered the quiche of the day, which my friend had had before and loved. Salad came with it. I picked wilted, rotting bits of greens out of the salad. And the quiche was rubbery and tasteless. The servers were nice and the atmosphere is very nice. I hope this was just a fluke.

Went back to Green Sage and it was awesome. The Blue Ridge Tempe Ruben was awesome the food for the table. No complaints. Wonderful service with friendly people and the cook knew how to cook the menus. We’ll be back.

We came to the Westgate location for breakfast, this was our first time eating at Green Sage. Before visiting Asheville we had done some research and seen that a lot of people were in love with this place and they have awesome values so we decided to give it a try. I had the sage breakfast plate and my husband had the pura vida bowl. All in all the food was decent but nothing amazing, it was super healthy though which is a great plus. They are able to turn almost anything into vegan and they have a lot of gluten free and vegetarian options which is another major plus. All in all we wouldn’t go out of our way to eat here again but it was decent if you are close by.

Excellent healthy food with lots of options for everyone. I was particularly impressed with their vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. I liked the new California veggie wrap. If I ranked Green Sage on options for picky eaters, it would receive 5 stars. However I think many of the options could taste better and have better consistency.
