— — — – PLEASEREADTHISFIRST — — — — – Deguello Burger and Sandwich Club is a pop up kitchen located within a bar called Broadway’s. Although it is a separate entity from Broadway’s it still requires access to Broadway’s. This means two things, first off, you must be 21+. Next, Broadway’s, like many bars in Asheville, is a private club, requiring you to be a member or a guest of a member. From what I understand the door guys at Broadway’s can be a little bit more relaxed on their policies if you inform them that you are there specifically to order food at Deguello. If for some reason you have a challenge getting in you can order via phone and the master of Deguello will run your order out to you or deliver it to one of the other bars located on that north block of Lexington. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — This is officially the best kept secret in Asheville. What was once a burger stand has now become a pop up kitchen in the upstairs are of Broadway’s. Hidden from sight, spoken of with hushed voices, if you’re looking for something unexpected, delicious, and awesome then you’re going to have to hunt this place down. Where as Deguello Burger and Sandwich Club(formerly Burger Burger Burger) was only open on Sundays from 6 until 2, their hours and menu have greatly expanded. You can now search out this culinary diamond in the rough on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays… So what makes this place so incredible and a new contender for best burger in Asheville? Care. Love. Dedication. This one man operation is devoted to quality. From what I understand he bakes his own challah rolls fresh. BAKESHISOWNROLLS! What a wonderful thing to do. The burgers and their toppings are decadent. Where as some places utilize toppings as a way to mask an inferior burger, Deguello’s burgers are adorned and heightened by the toppings that define the burger. Another recent addition are the fries, which are fresh pressed. It’s a wonder that they come out so perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. In-N-Out does the whole fresh pressed potato to the frier sort of thing and their fries come out with roughly the same flavor and consistency of wet noodles, but at Deguello, they’re golden and delicious. I feel like there’s a lesson to be taught here. The craziest thing on the menu is the fried chicken sandwich. It’s quite literally the lower quarter of a chicken, thigh and leg, deboned, battered, fried, and attempted to be shoved into a bun. It’s massive, it’s awe inspiring. It’s topped with what I can only assume is fried chicken skin and wine poached onions. It gives this southern behemoth the most subtle of nods to coq au vin. Want to eat before 10? Sorry Charlie, this place is for night owls only. 10 – 2 Thursday through Saturday, but rocking from 6 – 2 on Sundays. Don’t have a membership to Broadways? No worries, Deguello delivers to the surrounding bars in the area. So if you’re posted up at The Lazy Diamond, Crow and Quill, Tiger Mountain, or Rosetta’s Buchi Bar you can have your food brought TOYOU! All you have to do is call. The number is here on Deguello’s Unilocal page. I just checked. So get it son!

Why 5 stars? Because secret burgers are the best burgers. — — — Of my nearly 1,000 reviews at the time of this penning, this was one of the more interesting experiences. This«establishment» is located in the corner of some kind of upstairs bar. I still have no idea if it’s a part of one of three different businesses, or if it’s a stand-alone enterprise. Regardless, the burgers that come from this dwelling are so damn delicious. I did not actually make the orders myself, so I’m unsure of what I actually consumed, because there’s no menu online. I just sat at a table and, suddenly, two burgers were in my hands. Here’s as technical as I’ll get in describing them: one of them had chicken. I liked the chicken burger, but the beef patty was so juicy, that I’d give it the slight edge of the two. Apparently you can only experience this place on Sunday evenings. If I lived in Asheville, I would be here sometime between 46 – 49 Sundays on average, per year. *Edit — I was provided intel that I had the Craven burger and the Deguello’s standard. Yes.

No longer as difficult to find as Sasquatch, and still officially the best burger in Asheville. By far. These burgers have only gotten better in the intervening months since I wrote my first review. I’m beginning to think of this as a destination burger joint – the kind people might travel hundreds of miles to taste. And now, lucky you, you’ll know where to find them! Joe can be found cooking burgers in the upstairs lounge at Broadways on weekend nights. Every weekend night! Yippee! Try the luscious Golden Crown burger, and say I sent you.

As mentioned previously, Burger Burger Burger is currently a one man operation that most regularly operates out of the Broadway’s kitchen upstairs on Sunday nights. This is the best burger you will find in Asheville, period– and for the best prices around(typically $ 7)! Last night, I had a «Craven,» which came with homegrown greens, tomato, onions, thick strips of bacon, american cheese, homemade pickles, and spicy mayo, served on a delicious, homemade challah bun. This was the best burger I’ve had in ages– and it was half the price of my other favorite burgers around town! If you’re in the mood for a cheap burger, it’s definitely worth tracking Joe/the Burger Bus/Burger Burger Burger down!
