Okay for a quick bite. I had the pickin’ chicken, very good, my husband had the barbecue, he said it did not have any taste unless he had dip on it.

Not a bad place. Cute, basic hamburger, hotdogs & bbq. I’ve been several times, kids enjoy it. Hubby ordered a bbq plate that tasted great but didn’t get much on the plate for the price.

This little place is sort of off the beaten path, about 8 or 10 miles from Asheboro going toward Lexington on US Highway 64. It is «The Home of The Pickin» Chicken & Woodfired BBQ”. Haven’t tried the Pickin“Chicken, but did have a go a the woodfired BBQ, and it is not bad. It comes out of the kitchen rather dry, with a nice amount of outside brown bits, with a faint taste of smoke. The BBQ needs some sauce to give it a jolt, but the house sauce is red, sweet, and really mold — didn’t do much for me. Brought some home, hit it with a shot or two of Stamey’s «hot» sauce and it was much better. The BBQ Slaw is fairly well chopped, much less tart than most slaws of this type, and even has a bit of carrot in it. This type slaw goes well with the meat here, once the meat has been well sauced. The Hushpuppies here are outstanding. Nice & crusty on the outside, and moist and tender inside, with great flavor. The Chili Dog is pretty good because the chili is nice — meaty, and with some nice flavor. This would be a very, very good dog if the roll wasn’t so big — it makes the dog too much about the bread, and not the insides. The roll here is noticeably bigger than that used at Dixie Express, for example. Forget the FF. Nice friendly folks at this small place, though service is slower than you will encounter at most places with drive thru windows. Open Tue — Fri, 10am to 8pm; Sat 10am to 2pm.
