I went last weekend with a school friend and her kids. The kids really plowed into the salsa, chips and questions. Both my friend and I enjoyed our food, and in my case it reheated very well. I will definitely go back. It wasn’t spicy and they had no problems adjusting my order so I had only beans.

Pretty disappointed with how the night went. There was only one lady working and that was understandable, people call out. Luckily its a small restaurant so it wasn’t too bad for her but I could tell it was hard to keep up. I didn’t mind the wait and she was actually pretty attentive and refilled our drinks quite often. I got a coupon from and thats really what brought me here. We had to spend $ 50 at minimum and that was so hard because there was only 2 of us and the entrees are like $ 10 – 15. We really wanted margaritas but they told us something was going on with their permit so they aren’t allowed to sell alcohol. Hmm… mexican place and no alcohol? Absurd!!! –Queso Fundido– needs more chorizo! It was a little meat sprinkled on the sides of the pico de gallo in a big bowl but queso was filled 35% and chorizo was about .0005%. She brought out 2 tortillas to go with it. I looked at the tortilla like is this for one person? Luckily, you get chips and salsa so you can ask for chips to use but come on 1 small tortilla each person? –Tortilla soup– it started off delicious. Its not your usual chicken tortilla soup, its a red broth, very flavorful. Except… I got towards the middle of the broth where the chicken was and damn was it salty. I’m not talking about a handful just in one area. Like it was like a whole can of salt! I had to stop eating it, when I got it in a container to go home, I added probably a little more than a cup of water just to even it out. It was not what I thought in the beginning. It definitely hits you out of nowhere! –I got one of the combinations with beef enchilada, chicken enchilada and tamale. Well she told me they ran out of tamales! Ugh really? So I decided to get the beef taco. Beef is bland and boring. Not even onions in it or any spicyness to flavor it up. She messed up on my chicken enchilada instead she brought me another beef one. I didn’t even bother telling her. The whole enchilada just was overall bad, no flavor or anything. The rice and beans were decent. Was there only one chef in the back also? I’m giving 2 stars because the lady at least needs something for customer service. I’m disappointed because they claimed to be «best in Ashburn» but I quite frankly did not see any of that in our dishes.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. I’ve only had takeout so I can’t comment on the table service. Some of our favorite dishes are Chicken Enchiladas with Poblano sauce, all of the tacos, and the two shrimp dishes. The huevos rancheros are good too but only available at lunch during the week. Their chips are usually quite good and the salsa is very nice as it is pureed and they don’t go overboard with the onion. The burritos are tasty and filling. The beans and rice are good but sometimes the chef is heavy handed with the salt shaker. A few the times the chips tasted a little off because the fryer oil needed to be changed but that hasn’t happened in a while. I really like how they prepare their guacamole. Very basic but that’s how good guac is prepared. I really hope Los Agaves develops a following as we really like their food and hate to see them go.

2.5 stars. I really wanted to love this place after living in Phoenix and Tucson for the last few years. I came home to Virginia and within a week or so started the hunt for a «go to» Mex restaurant. I ate here twice and both visits were less than stellar. Food was just OK with sauces that were a bit watery and plates that were not that visually appealing. The skirt steak was well cooked and tasty but I found the rest of the plate to be unremarkable. At their price point I expect a stronger showing by the chef and his kitchen. Service was a 10%‘er when I am usually a 20% tipper. It was slow and disinterested in the customers. The front of the this house needs leadership and more training on the food and on service. Service is the face of the restaurant and it can ruin an otherwise fine meal. My point of reference on Mex is Woody Macayo’s in central Phoenix. They’ve been in business for 70 years and have the most incredible Baja sauce around. I wish Los Agaves success, Ashburn is a tough place for family owned eateries to survive.

More of a 2.5 experience! My family and I came here to try out this recently opened Mexican restaurant during the first month of its opening! Upon walking in, we awkwardly stood by the front entrance for a while before someone came to greet us. Then, we were told to wait a few more minutes while they cleared the a table for us which took a little bit longer than we had liked unfortunately. Don’t get me wrong, the service was friendly but it just wasn’t efficient. My family and I ordered the fish tacos, steak fajitas, chimichangas, and frontera burger w/fries. We enjoyed the steak fajitas but expect some skimping of the steak. The chimichangas were okay, but not that great. The fish tacos… I wouldn’t recommend. It wasn’t flavorful and definitely lacked something else to it. Overall, I think the food was decent. Maybe the pictures online looked so delicious that we came in with false pretenses. We were kind of disappointed when the food didn’t meet our expectations. I’m knocking off a star for the service and ambiance of the restaurant. I’m not sure if others have felt the same way, but there definitely needs to be better ventilation in the restaurant. It was sooo stuffy, it felt pretty uncomfortable during the meal. Maybe we’ll give this place a second chance to support a local business?

Welp. The food was meh. And besides the fact that our waitress was more hammered than I ever could have been off of my super weak strawberry margarita it most def wasn’t worth that 50 $ I spent… probably because I order veggie fajitas instead of the chicken and steak fajitas our poor waitress brought out. My boyfriend like the tacos though so god speed my friends.

It’s been a while I wrote a review, and I got to confess, I missed it. I went to this place for two reasons: 1) Groupon 2) The photographs of the«Food Picture» on Unilocal. Before you continue reading, I urge you to look at those beautiful pictures! :sigh: My and my wife went to this place at around 6 pm. Only two families were there in the restaurant. Doesn’t bother me, more options for seating! We were greeted and brought to a corner table. Next came the chips and salsa. Great, we weren’t expecting this complimentary appetizer. I had my first bite… GROSSSS… The chips were stale. «It happens», my wife told me, and we requested the server to get a new batch(telling her the reason and I told her«I highly recommend you smell the chips. They are stale, and you should probably not serve those» to which she said, «No, they are not stale, we fried them this afternoon.». I didn’t argue). She got a new plate of chips… same old story, GROSS… we didn’t tell her anything this time and just put the plate on the side with white napkins on top to avoid the stale oil smell(I am not exaggerating…) We then ordered the awesome sounding Fish taco and Carne asada. They were both Ehhhhh… The ingredients were not fresh, and all I could taste was salt. The whole experience was a 1. In the end, we did a quick Hail Mary and ordered Flan. Flan was good, and that raised their rating to 2.5. We will never go there again…

I walked out. It was just that bad. Let’s start with the service, generally when you walk in the door of a restaurant you are greeted by somebody… This was not the case. Finally after about five minutes somebody noticed that I was standing there. I should have taken the hint and walked out at that moment. There was nobody else in the restaurant the entire time I was there, obviously the word has gotten around, but I figured I’d give it a try and see what the deal was. The bar was not very stocked, and I was very unsure if I could even get an authentic margarita out of the place. I did not even see a menu for bar items. I ended up ordering the Mole enchiladas. By far the worst mole sauce I have ever had. It tasted like pure Hershey liquid syrup. There were no spices and it was just sickening to my stomach to take more than one bite. The rice was nuclear orange in color and nowhere on the plate was cheese included. When I told them I would not be finishing my meal the lady responded with, «have you ever even had mole before?» I don’t need to justify my answer with her, but I grew up in Southern California so Mexican food was second nature. This place was hands-down disgusting. And there was an awkward smell in the place as well. I would definitely not recommend wasting your time or money here. Just go to Taco Bell instead. Smh

Came back here and it looks like things are going down hill fast. What happened to the service? You should be greeted as time permits when you walk into a restaurant. It took us about five minutes to be seated, and the place wasn’t even busy. I got my tacos but it was cold. I think it would of been better if it was hot. I did say something about the tacos but all I got was a sorry. I wasn’t trying to get free tacos but was just hoping if they could of warmed it up for me. I hope the service can improve here.

This is by far the best tasting Mexican restaurant in Loudoun County. We ordered the tacos platter(fish, chicken, carnitas and steak), carnitas platter and they were so tasty! The seasoning is spot on. The service was a tad slow but it worth the wait. Prices are reasonable.

WOW!!! What an improvement since the first time we were here when they first opened. Tacos were AMAZING!!! My favorite was the beef tongue and chicken, fiancé loved the beef tongue and pork. Service was very friendly especially the owner’s daughter who was very sweet. Will definitely be returning to have the tacos again :)

I came here for lunch on Wednesday. There have been so many mixed reviews that I didn’t know what to expect, but I winged it, and was surprisingly impressed with the food and service. The food is definitely pricey compared to the other Mexican restaurants in the area, but I’m hoping the inflation in price is to compensate for«super fresh» ingredients used in the dishes. I was greeted with chips and salsa then asked what I wanted to drink. Note that their salsa is picante! I thought it was very good though because I have a thing for spicy food. I ordered taquitos as my appetizer and carne asada as the main dish. The taquitos were incredible. There were four chicken taquitos stacked on top of queso sauce. So good. If I ever come back, that’s probably all I’ll order. As far as the carne asada goes, the beef was seasoned very well and the entrée came with guac, pico, sour cream, lettuce, 4 flour tortillas, and rice & beans. I definitely thought that they could’ve added more pico, sour cream & guac, but it wasn’t that big of a deal. I’ll include pictures of the food so you can get an idea.

They serve chicharron as one of their appetizers. A neat surprise! The Al Pastor tacos were my favorite. I am definitely coming back for those! House Margarita was also very tasty.

Went to Los Agaves for lunch on Sunday and it was excellent. I wish we had tried this place sooner. Restaurant was very clean and sharp. Service was prompt, attentive, and professional. Food was delicious. I went with the waiter’s recommendation of the anchiote pork tacos and they were superb. The guacamole was pretty good although expensive for the portion size(but on par with other places — avocados are expensive). The salsa was thick and smooth and had flavor and kick. The chips were out of a bag but were just fine to go with the good salsa. My wife appreciated that they served the rice and beans in separate little bowls on your plate because she hates it when different foods touch on her plate. The«chicken strips» my youngest son ordered weren’t your typical processed-meat product deep fried. It was actually like a fresh, seasoned, baked chicken breast sliced into strips. All in all, we had an excellent lunch at Los Agaves, and I look forward to going back.

I was in the mood for Mexican food, so having found this restaurant through Unilocal I was happy to find a Mexican restaurant that was nearby, affordable, and had a great menu with tasty sounding choices. The restaurant was clean and the air condition was on, which is all I need(especially when eating hot and spicy food in the summer). I don’t consider the ‘décor’ of a restaurant when judging it’s quality. I have found that the best tasting and/or authentic food usually came in places where décor wasn’t their main concern. We(me and my partner) didn’t wait long before a waitress came to get drinks and orders. It was sad to hear other’s poor experience with service, but we did not experience that. The waitress would stop by seeing if everything was alright through the visit. Now onto the food. I had gotten the tilapia and the fish tacos. My partner got steak fajitas and the fajitas trio. I absolutely loved the fish tacos, the portion size was okay, there wasn’t a whole lot. My tilapia came with a side of beans, rice, sour cream and quac, so I filled the tacos up with that as well. It was the best tacos I’ve had so far, and I appreciated that fact that the tacos were corn tortillas opposed to flour ones. Also I was used to fish tacos having the fish ending up looking like chicken nuggets(fried and battered heavily). The fish in these tacos were not of that sort! The fish were marinated and cooked without batter, and that made a huge difference in taste. I’ll definitely get the fish tacos again in the future. The food came out hot and sizzling, and the tilapia ended up being good as well. My partner really loved the fajitas trio, which they gave him a good amount of(the meat was plentiful in that dish). I plan to come back in the future, definitely give this place a try if you’re in the mood for some Mexican cuisine.

We decided to check this place out after buying a Specialicious deal online. When I walked in I wasn’t overly impressed with the décor. The décor felt a little cheap, the ramekins they used almost looked like styrofoam, but when I touched it I realized it wasn’t styrofoam. Although I wasn’t impressed with décor I have learned not to judge a book by the cover. I had a sangria to start with. It was okay. I don’t know that I would order sangria to drink again. I personally prefer my sangria to have fruit in it with a little ice. The chips and salsa were great. The salsa was very tasty. So I ordered my typical«go-to» meal in Mexican restaurants. Which is fajitas. I ended up choosing the steak fajitas. They looked good when they came out and were pretty good… but what had my eye was my husbands taco sampler! I was ready to trade meals with him! He had asked the waitress what was good and she suggested the taco sampler. He was able to pick and choose four different tacos. He ended up with a pork and pineapple, sausage, pork and steak taco. He said they were really good. I tried a little of the pork and pineapple and the sausage and OMG they were SO good! The fajitas were good, but not the best I have ever had. The kids did pretty good with their kids burrito meals. Service was pretty good although the waitress didn’t ask us if we wanted dessert nor did they show us a dessert menu. The manager was walking around the restaurant and was very hands on in helping out and making sure customers were happy. I jokingly(kinda…I might be serious) told my husband we would be going back tomorrow tonight for dinner… and this time I am all about the taco sampler!

Um tacos! Was in the mode for some tacos, and since I was out this way why not try it out. This place is only a month and a half old so they showed a few growing pains today. The main thing is the food tasted good, now not as orgasmic as I would like it will do the job. Why go to the big chains if you know what I mean. The service was good and the server was willing to give us some samples of the sauce for the enchiladas(what is this whole foods?). Unfortunately the sauces weren’t ready so we told him to surprise us. I ordered the taco sampler and as always I gotta get the beef tongue if it’s an option. The tacos had plenty of filling but I was surprised only one corn tortilla per… Hmmm hey at least It’s lighter that way. They all tasted good with the al pastor standing out as the best one. The enchiladas came out nice and hot and ok oh boy the white queso shined! They had plenty of filling But the rice is like my mom made and. Sorry step up the rice game, one thing is growing up eating frozen veggies with meh rice. You just don’t wanna eat that in a restaurant. But over all it’s nice they have some fun options and you can get tongue tacos out this way. I will be back once the got their liquor license and I can try some margaritas!

I venture out to new places based on fellow Unilocaler reviews! I write my reviews based on service and food quality and value. The location of this new restaurant is convenient for me because(1) it’s close enough to my folks house, they can actually drive themselves here(2) I visit my folks often and there is finally a good Mexican restaurant nearby. Located in one of my fave shopping strip malls, this family owned restaurant served up some really yummy and authentic food. I grew up in Los Angeles and love good Mexican tacos. My sister and I ordered all sorts of tacos, yup, they have a sampler platter(4 choices for $ 12.95) or 3 tacos platters to include choice of rice or beans. The tacos are served on corn tortillas and include a good portion of onion, cilantro and spice. The meat portion is ideal, not sure why others were posting of minimum meat. The steak tacos were AH-mazing. The fish tacos probably could have used a bit more cooking but I still enjoyed them. The carnitas tacos were very moist and tasty. My dad had a very large steak fajita burrito. It came with fresh bell peppers and beans, guac and sour cream. He said he really enjoyed it. The chips and salsa were fresh. They come in a small basket easily consumed in minutes and refills will definitely be needed. Service was good. The restaurant had quite a few patrons but the 2 servers managed everyone. We’ll definitely be back to try the other menu items. The alcohol license is still pending but they pour a nice ice tea!

I like when a place focuses on the food instead of the décor. Place is clean and simple versus their sauces which are complex and rich. As our first time we tried the Chili Nortenos(stuffed jalapeños) with potato and cheese. These are made in house and a nice start. Most are mild in terms of heat but beware a couple were spicy. The chips are on the thick side and a bit oily but a nice change from the thin fragile versions we usually get. Table salsa is mild but tasty. Highlight was the shrimp diabla. Shrimp in a fab sauce that is smoky, rich, and packs a bit of a kick. Rice is a surprise as it is moist and flavorable on its own. We ended with the flan. A dense version with a thick caramel top and sauce. A nice ending. Only open a couple of weeks they still have some kinks to fix. Minor things like running out of tea(they quickly made more), not having coffee available yet, alcohol license still pending. But they made up for it in friendly helpful service and tasty food. Looking forward to another visit soon.
