I ate here for brunch last week and I have to say I was not impressed. Food took for ever, there appeared to be some off duty staff or friends just chatting. There seamed to be only one cook. I ordered the Pineapple burger(first time wanted to try something different) burger was good but could of been better. It was light on the sauce and my pineapple never touched a grill just straight from can to bun :(the onion rings where terrible! How do you screw up frozen onion rings? They where rock hard. I also had the cheese fries which where not cheese fries at all they where wet fries with a tasteless yellow substance on them. I had high expectations of the fries with the name velveta in the name and lastly my coffee was Luke warm at best which had me pondering how long had it actually been in the pot before my consumption. Everything cost extra cheese fries, onion rings, and the coffee was not cheap for the half a refill I got in hopes it would warm the last. I heard some of the staff talking about how the place has changed owners and trey where on their third owner so maybe that has something to do with the poor service and quality of thee products. Sorry to say I won’t be back.

Ordered the grilled club car salad and a cup of the green chili. The chili was decent, and the salad was mediocre at best. Actually, the chicken in my salad was good(but scarce) and the salad portion itself was below average.

Picture this: a layer of crisp hash browns, a layer of smoky bacon, a layer of fluffy scrambled eggs and a layer of sausage gravy, topped off with melty cheddar cheese. It’s called the Country Scramble, my friends, and it will most likely be the reason I’ll die young.

Something happened recently and I don’t know what. The servers are not as friendly, the hula hoops are gone and the breakfast food was not good at all. Food was slow coming out and then some of our party’s food was cold and some was scalding hot. We sat in the back corner and I think they forgot about us – it took forever to get our check paid. We have been here many times over the years and always had a great experience in the past but not so this last time. I will try it again, maybe they were just having a moment but this time was not good.

This is one of my favorite places to eat of all of time. Why? Three words: Four Cheese Grill. Damn. This is a SERIOUS grilled cheese. And I have this weird thing of where I tend to base restaurants off of how good their mashed potatoes and grilled cheeses are. Ha. Yeah… the five-year-old in me still lives on. Now…mashed potatoes… no…but french fries… YES. YUMYUMYUM. I love their french fry seasoning SOMUCH that I bought it to take home. I’ve been in love with this place for years. Here is the difference now though… and it’s not just THIS location… but it’s mainly this one… the servers here are hit or miss. When I first started coming here I felt really good about the service I was receiving. I really enjoyed how personable they were(sitting in your booth with you, giving complements, cute names, etc) and always felt like service was high on this restaurants list. Yeah…not so much anymore. Maybe people don’t feel like working in a 1950’s burger joint anymore… not sure… but there seem to be a lot of angry, annoyed, and even awful servers here. I had one experience where a server ignored us for 20 minutes and the minute my boyfriend joined us at the table(he was running late) the server suddenly came back and was practically all over him. It was actually quite awful. And it was the first time ever I felt like not leaving a tip. Again, it is hit or miss. This server does not seem to work there anymore(thankfully) and the gal we had last night was wonderful. Overworked… but wonderful. :) But overall… fun, cute, family-friendly. Come here on your birthday and be prepared for major embarrassment. :)

We’ve made occasional visits to Gunther Toody’s for years. The food is consistently average, but in my mind it’s hard for diner food to stand out in either direction — you’d really have to work at it to totally mess it up or to have it sing with greatness. The hand-scooped malts pretty much sing like Caruso. The rest of the food? Probably more reminiscent of Willie Nelson than Caruso, but even Willie’s OK when you’re in the right mood. Gunther’s does a good job at doing what it does. 50’s and 60’s diner — rock and roll from the era — lots of chrome, pink, turquoise, and neon. Old photos, signs and album covers on the walls. Generally charismatic wait staff who seem to enjoy adopting another persona for the duration of their shifts. It’s a good option if you have kids in tow — kids menu, fun ambiance, and the wait staff play well to and with the kids. We had 7 in our breakfast party today — 4 adults and 3 kids, ages ranging from 3 to 90 — the kids had a great time and Gunther’s couldn’t have been more accommodating. Gunther’s is hard to rate, but I’m going with a 4. The food is a 3, but as I said, it’s diner food — what do you expect? I’m going with an overall 4 because they are who they are and they do a good job of it. Average food, kid friendly, good value, good music(at least to a golden oldie like me), generally good service and enjoyable wait staff, and a fun, throwback ambiance — if that’s who you are and you do a consistently good job of it, a 4 is my story and I’m sticking with it.

It took many years for me to finally visit one of these locations. I have since visited it a few times in the last year or so and my conclusion is that it’s an ok place to go. The burgers are not that spectacular and I can’t drink cow’s milk, so I would most likely only visit on days where they have deals for me to visit(like 5 cent burgers… I believe I saw something like that once). I’ve had decent service when we came here, it’s just that I didn’t feel like the food was of high quality(and can be seen with the taste… though nowadays taste can be enhanced by shady means but that’s a different story). So, I may go back, but it is not on my ‘must’ list after I’ve finally had a chance to go.

Gunther Toody’s has always had a special spot in my heart, I’d like to think of it as the greasy cousin of Village Inn. I find myself visiting them once in a long while. This time, I’m here for the breakfast and my favorite Jalepaneo cornbread muffins, but was told they were replaced by some blueberry muffins, :-( I like that they feature the daily breakfast on a separate card, making it easy to decide. Boy, was I glad that we went ahead with the Saturday special: Fried chicken with gravy, hash browns, eggs, and toasts or pancakes. You better believe it when they say it’s huge because it is. Our waiter took the liberty to split this dish on two plates for us when she heard we were sharing everything, that made me very happy! On each of our plate was a piece of «I can’t believe it’s actually this yummy» fried chicken topped with white gravy, a sunny side up egg, buttered toasts and the potatoes. It also came with coffee or iced tea but we had a Groupon so couldn’t enjoy this extra perk. Had I known this one breakfast special was going to be that much food, I wouldn’t have wasted my brain cells deciding on a second item to order. Or, I shoud’ve stuck to either fruits or salad and ignore the callings of the Belgian Waffle breakfast. A little nudge from the BF and we got the waffles. What can I say? I will never make the same mistake again. Not only was it not«Belgian Waffles»(of course not, what was I thinking? It was regular waffles), the chorizo that we asked for came in sausage form, that’s not as appetizing as cut up chorizo! We asked for our eggs basted this time around and they were good. If not for the waitress, I’d average the great fried chicken with the not-so-good waffles to 3 stars, but she helped picked up one star. She was very patient with us when we were ordering and had questions, and when we asked her to take our picture! So naturally, I left a good tip.

WTH! This place has gone to poop! Dimly lit(burnt out or missing bulbs), in a shabby state(nothing like looking at a ceiling and seeing new white tiles next to brown ones that used to be white) of upkeep and repair, and what used to be a guaranteed acceptable meal at a value price? Just ain’t happening anymore here. Tough onion rings? Over saturated with margarine hard cooked buns? Their dressings and salads were never their strong point but now… limp veggies swimming in bad by the gallon dressing. Used to be staffed by friendly, outgoing women of all shapes and sizes with monikers and badges befitting the 50’s vibe GT has always tried to embody. Nothing, nada, zip, from the mostly young male staff. No attitude, no theatrics, no show. They are attentive and polite but not anything like the Gunther Toody’s of old. On the whole, pretty pitiful.

What has happened to this place? It has been about 18 months since I ate here last. Today my wife and I had breakfast and found the place to be d i r t y. The floor was dirty, the tables were either dirty or still wet from some overly wet rag being dragged across them and the condiment bottles looked like youngins had been fingering them with dirty hands. The waitress was unfriendly but to her credit, efficient. There were few(11) people in the place. Breakfast was slow(18 minutes from order to delivery) but decent. This used to be a top notch restaurant full of happy customers. I’m thinking new owners must be in place — that bad.

Grody to the max. I really wanted to like this place. 3 times I have been there, family outings and even a mommy daughter date night. I tried Grody Toody’s, I tried. Each visit only leaves me feeling more dirty than the last. It’s been a bout a year since I went in(or ever will again) and I asked specifically not to have a waiter who had previously made art out of ketchup and mustard on a plate to «amuse» my daughter. I was disgusted she was scared. Wanting to be fair, and give it another shot, I asked to be sat anywhere but his section. She treated me with a disdain only found in bad teen flicks. Way to go the extra mile for a customer! I can’t quite figure why everything about it leaves me wanting a shower. I stopped trying and now surround myself in a bubble of white light even when I drive by. How can one place feel so gross? The food is sub, sub par. I thought I’d try some greens to liven up the fried fare… canned would have been a step up. The shakes are decent, food overpriced and service is so greatly lacking I just have to stop trying. Other locations have stood the test of time better… but Arvada, what a loss.

We arrived on a Friday night around 7:00 and there were a handful of other tables occupied. Very telling. Our waiter kept trying to up-sale everything, which is fine, but he did it in a way that didn’t indicate extra charges. «With this meal you can get any of these specialty hamburgers.» Okay, so we did without realizing extra charges were being incurred. The extra charges didn’t matter, but it was a curious, slightly dishonest way of doing business. We didn’t know we had up-graded anything until the bill came. The food was okay. My daughter’s mac & cheese was of the Kraft variety, pre-made and rewarmed in the microwave. We know this because it arrived at our table cold, in spots and hot in other spots, yet fully cooked. We had to send it back to warm up. The malt was good, hamburgers good, but nothing to have an orgasm over. They could be found at any burger joint. Gunther Toody’s seems to think their décor — which is not all that special — will make the experience. It does not. The restaurant we visited in Arvada was without soul and seemed depressing and sad. We won’t be going back. Is Ed Debivic’s still around?

They say there’s a time and a place for everything. I’m sure Gunther Toodies is good most anytime, for me though I seem to find myself there more often than not for a weekend lunch when I’m nursing a bit of a hangover. Such was the case a couple of Saturdays ago for me and my girlfriend. My patty melt and the accompanying cheese fries once again worked their magic and I was back in action. There’s just something about the combo of red meat, cheese, potatoes, and of course a little grease that takes the edge off the pain from the night before. She went for the Gunther’s premium burger on whole wheat and afer adding a few pickles was soon also all set to take on the day. They have lots of others options, including a Blue Plate special every day of the week. And the breakfast menu looks pretty good too. I enjoy the campiness of the whole 50’s style dinner, as it’s all in good fun. The service is usually above average, even if they do sometimes sit at your table and steal a fry.

Interesting stop for Sunday breakfast. Gunther Tooties is a cool 50’s style diner. Big portions of great food. Waitstaff is interesting funny and very attentive. Went in as a group of 5 around 9am ish, seated right away. I hear they have a great bloody mary, but spent the last two days doing brewery tours and visiting local bars so time to dry out a bit. I had the breakfast burrito. Eggs, sausage, jalapenos, hash browns all smothered with a green sauce. Awesome! and huge I couldn’t finish. Around the table tons of diner classics, huge cinnamon bun, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and some sort of GT big breakfast. Everyone loved their meals. After filling up, off to redrock amphitheater to walk off the huge breakfast. GT rocks! if you are close and hungry make sure to stop in. But plan an active day after.

This Gunther Toody’s was especially nice and clean. We had a cheeky waitress in the true Gunther Toody’s style… which I enjoyed, rather than the genuinely snarky wait-person we endured in Northglenn.(The one who wanted to serve our shakes in «To go» cups because she wanted some customers who might order more food to sit there…) I ordered the biscuits and gravy and an egg over easy. They biscuits were HUGE… I should have only ordered one. Underneath the gravy and biscuits were hash browns. All and all a nice breakfast.

I think i was born in the wrong decade. in fact, i KNOW i was. this rockin 50’s joint takes away all the problems of contemporary 2010 and plants me back into a world of saddle shoes, poodle skirts, hula hoops, and elvis. my favorite :) Breakfast seems to be the staple food every time i seem to visit this joint, but every time i walk away with a smile. DEF try: the breakfast burrito. smootherd in green chilies and cheese :) the eggs bene. delicious. dont’ you worry Gunter toody’s, i’ll return soon :)

The burgers are good… heap big and thickish. Diner-qual grease levels of course. Not melt-in-your-mouth good, but damn serviceable. The fries are pretty standard stuff. Odd … I’ve had them several times and I can’t quite recall what exactly they look like. I dip in Thousand Island, which hides a lot of flaws in fries. I want to say steak cut, but I’m far from certain. The crown jewel of the Diner Trifecta has to be the milkshakes for sure. I usually have a whole chocolate shake or malt in me before the food even arrives. REAL ice cream, served in glass with the«special reserve» in the stainless steel chalice. I tell ya though, avoid this place towards closing time on a weeknight. When you’re alone in there with all that tacky paraphernalia and tired-out, over-makeup’d waitstaff it’s both depressing and spooky. The kitsch works way better in a full, bustling restaurant.
