I love this place. .great service! … Reasonable price. .Only 12.99. And children 20% off… great selection from the 12.99 option… love it. My kids love shabu and bbq. and this place has the best of both world. kids were so excited. And can’t wait to go back. I have to give it 4 stars, for the restroom was suuuuuuper gross.. no tissue… wet floor and it smells.. If I have to rate based on restroom .it will get zero star. .it was that gross…

UPDATE: New management. OK, maybe not the hottest update but there is new management here and you can tell. Meats are better, price is still reasonable. They do a good job juggling shabu and bbq — this isn’t Korean bbq but their selection of veggie, noodles and dumplings more than make up for it. Not to mention KBBQ faves like marinated meats and seafood. I think the house soup is best. Make your own sauce and extras like spring rolls, fried rice and noodles as well as dessert will please everyone.

Korean BBQ and Shabu Shabu in one place? YES!!! At first I was confused by the concept… do I get only one or the other? Then they brought out everything and I realized — holy cow, the best of both worlds. Not to mention how much food you get and just how affordable this place really is — for $ 12.99 we got an insane amount of food(see photo). The price range is between 12.99−19.99 between the 3 options but I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. The meats were delicious, the broth was on point and everything was fresh. The only issue I had was with some of the plates and bowls they brought out which looked like they’ve been through the ringer a couple times too many… few had burn marks on them and whatnot and isn’t really attractive for serving food. Otherwise this place is great to come by for a family meal or just a date.

I like the variety they have. The house special broth is the best to me. The quality of meat isn’t the best but you pay for what you get. So it isn’t too bad. The price have definitely gone up since the last time I came. The service is ehhh. Probably the worst part. Takes awhile to get their attention…

Great shabu and KBBQ, eat till you drop basically. Decide on what meats and veggies, they also have a little bar for rice and sauces; yum. Only thing, $ 5 per person if you don’t clear everything on plates and the hot pot.

Poor service. They should have more server during dinner especially weekend. What happened to this place? I’ve noticed the food and the service changed when they had a transition to a new owner? Or new management?

Affordable Korean BBQ and Shabu Shabu. My BF and I always choose the $ 20AYCE; they have different options if you want more variety. I love shabu shabu and he loves BBQ. This restaurant was the best choice to satisfy both our cravings. The restaurant has a sauce bar along with a counter for rice, noodles, dessert, and little appetizers. I’m surprised the salad and the appetizers were good! I really liked the eggrolls and the teriyaki chicken. The way you order is like an AYCE sushi restaurant. They give you a list and you mark how many orders you want of each item listed. They will only give you 3 rounds of ordering. I recommend not ordering the marinated meats– you don’t know how long it has been sitting in their fridge. My BF and I agree that the beef brisket was the best. You also can’t go wrong with shabu shabu– vegetables, mushrooms, fish balls, noodles, etc. Really affordable meal. BTW, you’ll come out smelling like BBQ.

Me and bf came here for late lunch on Saturday so there wasn’t any wait. It was a spacious restaurant. We opted for the $ 12.99 menu, and there were plenty of options for us. I love that they combined hot pot with bbq grill. Genius ! For the price, I did not have high expectations for the food quality. The food was decent for the price, but not amazing. You get what you pay for. I would come back if I was ever in the area. Props to our server(I wish I could remember her name) for being attentive and super helpful. She explained the menu thoroughly and even made us a dipping sauce. Con — The bathrooms were out of order for most of my meal.

We(party of 5) came here around 6pm Thursday night and were seated right the way. Service: 4⁄5 The girl(blonde hair– I forgot to ask her name) who served us was nice and friendly. We told her it was our first time eating shabu shabu and she tried her best to explain to us. She was attentive, refilled water and broth without request. Food: 3⁄5 There are 3 options for you to choose C$ 12.99(pork and chicken) B$ 16.99(C+seafood) A$ 19.99(B+C+ lamb and ribeye) You can choose up to 4 «types» of meat each round and unlimited vegetable+noodles. Self-service sauces bar locates at the corner next to the cashier bar. Garlic sauce and sesame sauce are the must-have sauce. I recommend spicy kimchi broth, marinated beef brisket but stay away from spicy chicken. The quality of meats is not that great but still eatable. No matter what broth you order at the beginning, they’ll refill it with house special broth, which is kind of bland. Price:5/5 We went with plan C $ 12.99. We were stuffed at the first round and only ordered mushroom, wonton, marinated beef brisket at the second round. The bill for 5 people was $ 70(tax included). Each of us paid $ 16(tax+tip included). Tip: We ate the whole damn thing to avoid the charge($ 5/person) for left over food. Don’t go crazy on the vegetable or noodles because they’ll give you a lot, choose wisely. Order some corn and mushroom for your broth, they give a lot of flavor. The best way to eat corn is after boiling in the broth, take it out, dip it in garlic sauce and grill it. Rather than putting into the broth, intestine will taste a lot better if you grill it. One of the best sauce combinations is garlic sauce+sesame oil+sesame sauce, or sesame sauce+sesame oil for grilled meats and just simple garlic sauce for hot pot meats. Don’t be afraid to ask for changing the grill. When it goes black, it gotta go back.

A good story to laugh about if you have a dark sense of humour. My friend was broke and had no money to go and I decided to take him here with my cash… only on ONE condition, he have to eat as much as possible as he had boasted about beating me in a food eating competition. You know«I can eat more than you at any buffet.» So upon this statement, I challenged him to eat more than me at this restaurant. So as we went to the restaurant, got our tables. We first decided to get some appetizers, fried rice, chow mein, eggrolls and chicken. We order a whole bunch of meat and had the spicy soup for the hotpot. As we keep eating, I decided to mess with my friend and tell him to eat some more. He was pretending to eat while talking to my other friend for a long time. I told him, «hey man, all I’m seeing is you talking this entire time, I gotta see you eat cuz thats what I paid for. At the while, the waitress was flirting with my friend everytime she came to our table, we decided to tease him, «hey darkness get on that yellow curry(she was asian). It was hilarious because she was also teasing him about handling spicy food because she asked if he can eat spicy food, he answered with a feared expression. She then on kept coming back to the table to tease and flirt with my friend. Just only my friend. He was feeling limelight. She was giving him so much attention. We all encouraged him to ask for her number. GETONTHATBRUH!!! He asked her and got rejected«mildly». Get it? After a dozen plates, it was down to three of us that were able to eat. My friend Dee and Lee and I were able to keep on eating. My friend De couldn’t eat anymore, I told him, «hey dude, I knew you wouldn’t be able to eat more than Me. He grunted, «ahhhrahh!.. Well I’ve tried.» He came up with plenty of excuses. Once again he loses… Me = 100wins, Dee= –100 Then we started going to the car and ended up taking a walk around the parking lot because we were all stuffed. I droved all my friends home and my friend Dee last. I arrived at my house comfy and about to go to sleep, I get this text in the middle of the night at 2am. I’m like fuuuhhhh what is it?. My friend Dee texted me «I’M SOSICKRIGHTNOW!!, ITHURTS!!!» I was thinking to myself… He’ll be fine, he always does this. Exaggerated his symptoms. The next morning, I got a text from him, «I’m in the hospital for appendicitis.» I later went to the hospital to point and laugh at him. Told him, thats what you get for having a big mouth. You can say… He ATE until he POPPED. Literally.

I wanted KBBQ and my friend wanted shabu, so we figured… why not try a place that offers AYCE of both? We arrived and were seated promptly, it was lunch on a Sunday and surprisingly, the restaurant wasn’t as busy as one wound expect. My friends and I got the special soup and a bunch of the meats. Typically, you can go through 3 rounds and whatever you don’t finish, you get charged extra per person, per plate. There were 5 of us, and we only were able to do one round, because our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. While the meats were nicely seasoned, they sort of all tasted the same to me. The concept of combining the two, while good, needs to be worked out better. At one point, our soup was boiling over and when we asked our waitress to lower down the heat, she said that it was not possible since that’ll altogether turn off the fire. Whaaa? They definitely need a better system for this. Our hot plate was also SUPER hot, so our meats cooked wayyyy too fast. I wouldn’t recommend the spicy pork, because it’s a bit too spicy… and I guess it’s more of a personal preference. There’s a bar with all the fried rice and chow mien you can get, as well as white rice and minced pork. They also have fried foods like egg rolls and chicken Katsu. The chicken Katsu was surprisingly good despite sitting on the counter. There’s also a sauce bar, which I really appreciate. You can either just take the sauces straight as is, or you can add things like garlic, chives, and chili. My only complaint would be the fact that their drinks are not refillable like most AYCE places typically would be. My friend and I both ordered Cokes, and we were handed a small can which is not enough for a meal where you’re eating AYCE. We ordered a third can and split it in order to satisfy our needs. I lied, another complaint would be that I had to ask 3 times for the rice paper, only to never get it… so I gave up. We didn’t finish ALL the food, but surprisingly weren’t charged for the extra food we had left. TLDR; An interesting concept that just needs to be tweaked and worked out better.

Yup, the price is right and the offerings are plentiful. Now for me, the concept is a little blurred here. Shabu/KBBQ is awesome but they don’t do a very good job at executing either of them. It’s a little half @$$ at both so I barely felt satisfied here especially since the service, for me at least, wasn’t very good. Our party felt haggled by the owner about the sign stating that we’ll be charged for any wasted food. Moving/pointing to it and saying it out load. Which, in my opinion, is annoying and unprofessional. They can always have the servers kindly state it at the beginning of the meal if they really want to make it a point to customers. Anyway, the self-serve area was cool but can use a little attention sometimes. The seating is comfy and the quality is actually not bad considering the price tag. All-in-all, this place is ok. My first experience wasn’t that amazing, so a second visit may come somewhere down the line but I’m not jumping hoops to make it happen.

I have mixed feelings about the place, both good and bad. To sum it up, you get what you pay for. The combination of shabu shabu and kbbq is a great concept. However, it gets very overwhelming to grill and slurp hot soup at the same. A nice experience to try, but I don’t have the patience to do it again. The soup is bland but still has flavor. The sauce bar which includes chili oil, teriyaki, garlic, cilantro, etc makes everything taste better in my opinion. I personally loved the sauce I made to pair with the basic soup. For $ 12, you can pick 4 «types» of meat limited to 3 rounds with unlimited veggies. I don’t care too much for the other meats because I love brisket. I thought I could order 2 orders of brisket within the same round if I didn’t order other meats. I was not allowed to do this, and left disappointed with this policy. Nonetheless, I still left super stuffed. PROS + Cheap CONS + Overwhelming cooking experience + Prohibited to order the same meat twice in the same round — you must pick different«types.»

Too much of a good thing could be quite overwhelming. Kariya has Taiwainese Shabu Shabu, BBQ, self serve area AND some items you that can be made to order. Brace yourself, keep an even Steven pace and eat smart BECAUSE«food left to plates/hot pot will be subject to an additional $ 5.00 per person charge.» I like how they laid down the law from the get go! This way no one will waste food. Ok, so here is the dealio: 1) Select your SOUPBASE: — we went with the Kariya House Special broth. A mild broth, which is great because all the stuff you will dunk into it will enhance the flavor. –ASK the waitress to put together their house DIPPING concoction for ya! If you want to add some spice, pop on over to the spice/condiment bar. 2) Select your MEAT: $ 18.99 Lamb & Steak, plus everything below $ 15.99 Meats and Seafood plus everything below $ 11.99 Meats: sliced Black Angus brisket/chicken leg meat/tender pork/pork belly and beef tripe, pork blood/intestine/kidney/liver. *Kids 5−10y/o: 20% off; 5 and under is free **We went with the $ 11.99 option since we mainly enjoy brisket and pork belly.** This deal included: GRILLEDITEMS: marinated brisket and pork belly for us! Meats were decent, but not as tender as Gen. VEGETABLES: we went ape wild on this since our friend was a vegetarian. NOODLES&RICE: egg noodles for us, but ask for a ½ order. They gave us A LOT. Hard to finish. Taiwan minced pork rice was DELISH. I couldn’t eat too much of it b/c I didn’t want to get too full off of just one dish. SELFSERVE area: rice, fried rice, dumplings, chicken… etc! SERVICE: Our waitress was a bit impatient with us at first. We felt rushed into order. I finally had to just ask her to explain how everything worked. After she realized we were rookies, she slowed down and was much more helpful. She was also very kind not to charge our kids since she noticed they weren’t really eating. TIDBITS: 1) Make a reservation for large groups 2) HUGE drink menu: milk teas, slush, smoothies, teas, beer, wine, sake and soda! 3) Spacious, but gets crowded FAST! 4) MSG rating: 2⁄5 5) Kid friendly, but be careful w/the hotpot and grill Our Kariya experience was fun and delicious. BUT, in all honesty there was just TOO much food. We limited our orders(tried a little bit of each section) and were still stuffed beyond belief. Next time, i will refrain from going to the self-serve area. CONFESSION: 1st time in history that we ate almost everything on our plates at an AYCE place(to avoid being charged extra).

Korean BBQ and Shabu that’s ALLYOUCANEAT? Ok — I’m interested! Came with a group of 10 people, were seated promptly, and got the cooking going. I would suggest not coming with such a large group because the grill and pot is circular, so reaching is difficult for smaller people like me! Also there is so much going on in the center that you end up just grabbing random items of food because you don’t know what else to do! We only ordered chicken and beef and here’s a rundown of the meat: Marinated beef — great for the grill with lots of flavor! One of the favorites of the night. Brisket — for the grill and shabu pot. I personally just liked the brisket the best because I liked the sauce I was dipping it in. Marinated chicken — great for the grill and the same flavor as the marinated beef. I like this because it didn’t dry out like the thinly cut chicken. Sliced chicken — this was ONLY good in the shabu pot and with the sauce our waitress made us. It was this sweet and spicy mixture that went perfectly and added moisture to the meat. I really liked that you can mix your own sauces at the station in the corner. My favorite mixture was the garlic sauce with added garlic and green onions. Also a plus is the egg rolls, chow mein, and rice pots that you can grab yourself. Downside? No radish paper! But it makes sense since this meal was only $ 11.99 for dinner! Shabu veggies and sides were great. Make sure to not leave the dumplings in there for too long. THEPOTISSUPERDEEP. When we thought we ate all the meat in the pot, we fish out so much more. Anyways, our server was great and attentive. She also made jokes with us and made us feel right at home. I will come back! Maybe with less people.

4.5 stars! For the price, quality of food and the really great service, I would definitely return! =) My parents, bf and I came on a Sunday night around 7pm. There was maybe a 10 minute wait and we got seated next to a window. I had been looking for some place new to try because my mom wanted a new experience, but is a little hesitant about trying new cuisines. Kariya definitely fits the bill because there are options for everyone with both shabu shabu and kbbq in one table. Plus I love the fact that are tons of veggies to choose from, something I’m always craving when I eat a lot meat. I really liked the quality of the meats here. We tried the beef brisket, pork belly, chicken leg meat, and also marinated beef brisket and pork belly. In particular, I really liked the brisket because the cut was pretty thick and it went well with both the shabu shabu and kbbq. I liked the unmarinated meats better though because you can also flavor it with the sauces from the sauce bar. Tons of different veggies to choose from. We also got the minced pork rice, tripe, pigs blood and rice paper on the side. All this food in addition to the kimchi, marinated potatoes and side salad they give you! And I haven’t even mentioned the buffet bar with rice, chow mein, fried rice, popcorn chicken, egg roll and dessert! Food overload! The one thing that I wasn’t really a fan of was the house special soup that came with the shabu shabu. Apparently it’s the most popular option. But there wasn’t any flavoring to it at all. However, eventually after we threw in meats and veggies the broth’s flavor became a bit more complex. Also, they don’t close the blinds here for people who sit next to the window and face the sun. You have to pretty much bear it till the sun sets unfortunately. Service was great! Our server happily mixed up sauces for us and brought it to the table because she knew it was our first time. She was always available to refill waters, get rid of excess oil and take our orders. So good! Oh I’ll definitely come back. A great experience for $ 12 per person and this place is picky Asian parent approved! =)

First time going to a shabu shabu/bbq mix kind of place. Wanted to try something new so came here for my mom’s late birthday lunch. My mom actually enjoyed it! Because she said they have vegetables and you don’t get tired of eating meat compared to when we go to Korean bbq places. So you have 3 different levels of the AYCE that you could choose from; $ 19, $ 16 or $ 12. My family went with the $ 16 option since it includes the seafood items. So once you’re seated, they already have salad, marinated potatoes, and rice paper. I’d say skip it and just wait for the real stuff! Go make your sauce however you like it at the sauce bar. They also have rice and chow mein, but I didn’t get any of it since I didn’t want those fillers to get me full… They have a pretty big variety of vegetables, but nothing too special. Just your typical stuff like mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, and stuff like that. They also have fish balls, beef balls, and squid balls. My family didn’t get any of the noodle items(vermicelli, egg noodles, rice noodles) either though, but they do have wontons for you to put into your hot pot. So for the meat choices, my family tried the marinated beef brisket, sliced black angus beef brisket, and choice sliced rib eye. Favorite would have to be the beef brisket. For the seafood we tried the clams, sea bass, and shrimp. Didn’t like the sea bass that much, but can’t go wrong with the clams and shrimp! Service was pretty good. My dad burned his finger though and not even from the grill! A plate was too close to the grill and my dad grabbed it from my sister to give to the waitress to take away and it burned him! Then she warned us that it gets pretty hot so be careful when handling the plates… so she got my dad a bowl of ice for him to put his finger in and it ended up getting a blister… so be careful! She was always around to clean up our plate and ask us if we wanted anymore food though.

Arrived at 9pm on a Friday(1 hour before closing) and there was still a line outside! Lucky for me, I only waited 5 mins because of my small party. Yay: D The moment I walked in, the manager was all smiles with a «Hello! Welcome!» waves* Kudos for that. We got the $ 11.99AYCE option and it was more than enough. The shabu and meat, in addition to the chow mein, steam/fried rice, egg rolls, and garlic sweet chicken appetizers easily filled us up by round 2. There are 3 rounds total btw! I loved the vegetables and noodles for the shabu, however I could pass on the kbbq. The flavor & quality of the meat were either bland or overbearing. Don’t go crazy on ordering the veggies in the 1st round, b/c you’ll regret it after. It’s a lot yo! They have tapioca w/green bean dessert too. I’m whatevers about it, but just try it? Our waitress, Nancy, was VERY attentive and helpful. Sometimes a bit much, but we didn’t mind it. Often, she’d come by to cook the meat, refill drinks, or prepare the shabu for us. She even made the sauces for us too b/c we’re too noob and didn’t know how. At 10pm, closing time, she even asked if we wanted more meat instead of kicking us out… hah. We’re grateful. Thank You Nancy! We’ll be back!
