Toucan Wines are a local gem. They are flavorful, adventurous, and hide a little kick. If you stumble across this tasting room don’t hesitate to go in and give them a try. You wont be disappointed. The owner Doug Timewell will certainly welcome you with a smile and a healthy taste to whet your whistle.

Tried a bottle of the 2008 Evangelho Carignane last night – from 120 year old vines. The alcohol is high at 15.9%, but you don’t get any of that alcohol burn. The wine is pure blueberries – long finish and bright acidity. Great wine – and doug was really nice on the phone when I ordered it.

Toucan Wines are delicious! No white wines here, but some of the best reds and blends I’ve had. If you are lucky, you can join in with the winemakers, Terrie and Doug, during the production process. Ever thought about picking the grapes for the wine that will begin processing only moments after morning harvest? Doug generously shares his wines at tastings all over the Central Coast. My favorites include the Zinfandel blend and Toucanet, a dessert wine.
