Such a cute ice cream parlor. The people working today were so nice! Plenty of delicious flavors to choose from, clean place and reasonable prices. Must visit if you’re ever in Arroyo Grande!

My favorite ice cream place to eat! I don’t go for overly sweet flavors like rainbow sherbert or bubble gum, but there are tons of choices and right now they are raising money to build a well for a community overseas! Go check them out!

My husband is an ice cream aficionado, so when we saw this place on Unilocal,we drove about 10 miles from our hotel to try it. First off props for being open until 9 pm on a Sunday. When we walked in, it was like walking into an old ice cream parlor but with modern pluses. They have a gift area with cute little odds and ends. They also gave a train that circles overhead. Very cool! We were greeted immediately by a decently friendly server. I ended up trying the double scoop Elvis special(banana ice cream with ribbons of peanut butter) and the bananas foster. They were both good but the Elvis special was to die for! The waffle cones are yummy and a little different than your typical waffle cone. It had a ginger snap taste to it that was quite interesting. My husband had the Oreo, Oreo cookie, and the cookie dough in a waffle cone as well. He ate every bite and was very satisfied. I deduct one star because it’s very pricy, but if we’re on vacation here again and splurging we will come back in a heartbeat.

One of the most fun and unique ice cream places ever! Great place to take kids and sugar lovers, the selection is endless and each flavor sounds fun and unique. Prices are a bit high for a single scoop, getting more than one is a better value. They are very friendly and offer samples which are needed with this selection or else I would wind up with an endless amount of scoops just to get to try everything that i have never heard of! Flavors rotate, so you never know what you will find this time, but there My son had something called trip to the dentist, blue cotton candy and loaded with sugar, not my fav. I was in a sugar coma by then and passed on some for myself. My husband had JD Whiskey, also very unique but an acquired taste. Worth a stop while in the area!

Decided to give a try based on the major Unilocal rating. For me the place was a let down, because soon after eating the salty caramel scoop I had bloody blisters all over my tongue :(Something in it was allergic. Wish I had tried something else. They have a ceiling mount train, it was fun watching it!

Expensive for a scoop of ice cream on a cone. But what can you do? Its the only place in the street that actually has a line. Its a really boring area. Servers are pretty helpful.

There are a bunch of specialty flavors. I got the Motor Oil and the Merlot Raspberry Truffle. The Motor Oil is chocolate infused with Kailua. I really liked the Merlot Raspberry Truffle. You can creally taste the Merlot. What is really nice about this place is you can ask for tastings.

I tried to save some ice cream but I couldn’t stop eating it??? This was a very clean and well mannered staff. It had a nice twist with the train laboratory theme. I would highly recommend giving this place a try.

Very good Ice Cream in the San Luis/Paso area. They have multiple locations but I think this is the original. They can host parties in the back where you get a special look at how they make the ice cream but we didn’t participate in that. You can split a single scoop into two flavors but we ended up sharing a double instead. Good ice cream for your dessert fix!

Consistently good ice cream. They haven’t changed the recipe(to my knowledge) after all of these years. A bit pricy(Six bucks for a double scoop) but the scoops are generous and the employees are friendly. Don’t forget to check it out during the holidays.

When I first moved to SLO as a student 10 years Go, I was elated to discover this little gem. I’ve made it a point to come back here every time I’ve visited because I just can’t get enough! Fresh homemade ice cream made fresh every day with innovative and creative flavors! My all-time favorite is the pear sorbet — it literally feels like you’re biting into a deliciously sweet, icy pear! If you try their alcohol-flavored ice creams, you’ll be in for a real treat. They somehow bring out the wine or beer’s true flavors… it’s amazing! Doc Bernstein’s is a tradition, one that I see lasting for a very long time. The décor is still as Dina do homey as I remember from the first time I walked through its doors :) I believe they now have a storefront in downtown slo, but I definitely recommend coming to the original one here!

I had double scoops with 3 flavors of Motor Oil, praline pecan and java chip in a waffle cone. The price was right $ 6.45(pretty cheap for the amounting ice cream I got). The size was very generous and I I couldn’t finish it. It was very rare that I couldn’t finish ice cream. Loved all three flavors. They had right amount of sweetness and very creamy. If you love strong coffee, you will like java chip. They cone was freshly made and crispy. I also love the ambient. Clean, Very cute and fun.

I love ice cream. I may live in San Diego now, but whenever I come home to see the parents, Doc Bernstein’s is one of those places that I have to visit. The ice cream is super premium(aka super fatty) and you can tell. It’s rich, it’s flavorful, and it’s filling. I love ordering Doc’s Java. It’s a coffee ice cream filled with chocolate covered espresso beans and caramel. Who else makes anything like it? And even if they did, the richness of Doc’s would have them beat! Another favorite is the rocky road which is loaded with marshmallows and almonds. Unlike cheaper ice creams that have you digging around for toppings, every spoonful of Doc’s is full of something. They also have tubs of ice cream to take home, as well as humongous drumsticks and ice cream cakes & pies. Another great thing about Doc’s is they have a special show each Wednesday night called«Ice Cream Lab» where kids(or anyone really) can help them create a new flavor! Sigh, why wasn’t this around when I was a kid? The only thing preventing them from getting five stars is their long list of ingredients. You’d think something so local and fresh would only contain cream, sugar, etc. However upon bringing a tub home, there were quite a few hard to pronounce ingredients in the list and it was a little long. I understand needing a preservative but it seemed excessive. That being said, I’ll still credit them with having the best ice cream on the Central Coast.

A trip to the doctor should not be this much fun. No doctor in their right mind would prescribe you two scoops of the good stuff stat, but Doc Burnstein is not your ordinary doctor. For those with an ice cream habit, Doc has whatever it is you need to assuage your addiction. Traditional flavors are in vogue here but thats not to say their seasonal and wacky creations aren’t equally as good. We had the: Honey Almond and Strawberry. Both scoops were massive and the waffle cone was equally large and in charge. The ice cream itself was creamy but more dense and heavy than other places I’ve been to. I’m not complaining because I was left stuffed and satisfied. I just wish we could have come on a day when they were doing ice cream lab demonstrations because this place is just really neat to hang out in. It’s charming and great for families and friends. In a time when traditional ice cream parlors are few and far between, going here is like a step back in time like another fictional doctor once did in a Delorean. On a stop to Kettleman City I saw they opened another Doc Burnstein’s so the good doctor can now treat your ice cream addiction even more cities. Tip: 10% senior discount Monday only

Merlot raspberry truffle. If those three words don’t get you excited, you may want to check your pulse. Just when you think you’ve had it all, here comes Doc Burnstein with a fabulous new ice cream concoction. The store is adorable. A total throwback to the 1950’s when the ice cream parlor was the hub of celebratory moments. Walking in, you’ll notice the toy train huffing and puffing above the heads of patrons. The track circles completely around the inside of the store. What could be better than trains and ice cream? Not much! Doc Burnstein does the ice cream thing well. The service was even great — very friendly. I can’t wait to return to the adorable downtown of AG and try more of Doc Burnstein’s flavors. And of course, watch the train.
