.. Incredibly Chauvinsitic red neck place… Rude guy about 30 behind counter. Obviously not used to dealing with anyone from anywhere else, so you’d better be local! Totally unhelpful and condescending when I wasn’t sure of the extra stamps I needed to go with the fishing license I was buying he would not tell me the price of ANY of them but directed me to this sign with at least 25 things on it regarding deer stamps, etc, plus they charge a buck to use your debit card!!! WANTCASH! What is this 1945! Typical backward local yocal business! Walked out without buying a license! Better off giving a liquor store your business! Places you can buy fishing licenses so you don’t have to put up with them: Altaville Food and Liquor Market, Across form Bret Harte High ANGELSCAMP Shell Station MURPHYS, on right hand side going up, across from Sierra HIlls Mkt CAMPCONNELL General Store, CAMPCONNELLONRIGHT Happy Fishing!

Stopped here again, early May.2016. Bill gave us directions to hiking areas in Arnold along with fishing recommendations in the area. I wish I could give Ebbetts Pass Sporting Goods six stars.

Bill is the BEST! Thanks for making my retired life even better by putting me where the fish are and what bait to use.

A must stop for all high country fishing and outdoor sports. Friendly staff, knowledgeable about local conditions, and great stock. Not even mentioning the owners and people who work the counter are the real glue that keep many of the sportsmen in our community together while being downright friendly to all. Great service!

I popped in with two of my friends to rent snowshoes on our way to Big Trees. Bill was extremely friendly and helpful. He took the time to make sure we all proper footwear as well as great snowshoes. He gave us the amazing recommendation of snowshoeing the North Grove trail in Big Trees State Park. Will be coming back the next time we need gear for any outdoor activity.

I should have checked out the Unilocal reviews before visiting. I stopped by with my wife, brother, and my brother’s girlfriend, hoping to rent some snowshoes and get a recommendation for where to hike. The woman who«greeted» us was extremely condescending and went out of her way to be rude to us. I can think of few times in my life where I have had such a poor customer service experience. We took our money elsewhere. You should too.

Woman at front counter was extremely rude to me. I will not shop at a place that is not interested in their customers.

Next time I’d pass on Ebbetts Pass Sporting Goods. While heading to Big Trees, I stopped by to check out the shop. As far as fly fishing, the shop carries a nice selection of flies and all the basics you’d need for local fishing. I looked around a bit and picked up a couple of casting bobbers for my boys. As I was making the transaction, I asked the employee who was helping me a couple of questions about a glass rod blank that was in full view behind the counter. She gave me curt responses and she grinned at me. When I asked her I could see the blank she said, «Not today» and walked off. I’d prefer not to get the corporate fly shop attitude from a mom and pop’s shop.

We stopped in here a few times last week. Our son is obsessed with fishing, but since he is only 6 years old he needs guidance/help. My husband did some fishing as a kid but is by no means an avid fisherman. So, off to Ebbetts pass Sporting Goods. The guy there was knowledgable and extremely helpful. He took the time to ask us where and what we were fishing for and helped us with the appropriate tackle and bait for each day. Thanks to his advice and help, we caught fish and the kiddo was a happy camper !

This is place is an old school, small town sporting goods store. Don’t expect Cabela’s or REI. The reason for the 5 stars really comes down to the owner being so nice, helpful and sincerely thankful for your business. Every time I am in this place, there are lots of people from the valley and Bay, some not knowing much about fishing or the local waters. This guy treats them like they are family and tells them what they need and where to go(damn it man– no wonder every hole around here is crowded). The shop is stocked with lots of lures, flies, baits etc. Though I don’t go in here too often, I am glad to have this sporting good shop in our town.

Rented a cabin up in the area and thought we would take our 3 year old up to the snow. We stopped here to see if they had any boots in her size. We were surprised they had some to rent for $ 5. The owner was very friendly and showed my wife where the boots and snow gear was. We were able to outfit my daughter with boots and ski pants for $ 10 and he even gave us a map and made some suggestions on where to go sledding. I was able to find some nice ski gloves for myself without a ridiculous markup. There are a few sporting good places in Arnold, but I definitely got a great feeling from this place.

My family and I stopped here after driving past many times on prior trips to Arnold and Bear Valley. Many of the Unilocal reviews were very good referencing the helpful owner and we needed a Sno Park pass to hike lake Alpine, so why not give this shop a try? This looked exactly like the kind of small business we’d prefer to support. Our 7 year old daughter had an empty plastic cup she had brought in from outside the store and asked if she might be able to throw away the cup in the shop’s trash. She was told«No, we don’t have a trash can for you… sorry.» Fortunately they did have the Sno Park pass that we paid for at the front cash register right next to their wastebasket. So, thanks a lot Ebbett’s Pass Sporting Goods for showing a 7 year old, who was trying to do the right thing by throwing away some litter and asking the shop staff for some help, what it means to choose where to spend her money wisely. She won’t be back and neither will we.

Stopped in Labor Day Weekend to pick up fishing licenses and a rod to go fishing at Alpine Lake. We didn’t end up going fishing, but service was super friendly, and the guy did not push anything expensive or anything we did not need. Easy and affordable purchase. Thanks!

Great shop for sporting/fishing supplies and advice. Bill and his wife are super friendly and helpful. Stop in to find out where the bite is on and get what you need to land them. My son and I stop in almost everytime we are up there. Shops like this are a dying breed with the Walmarts of the world popping up, but are so much better!

Popped in on 12⁄24 at the suggestion of our innkeeper. We were hoping to rent snowshoes for the afternoon. The place was not busy at all, but the woman behind the counter seemed entirely too annoyed that we stopped in. She proceeded to tell us that she wouldn’t rent them to us because she didn’t think our desired snowshoe location got enough snow the day before. We ended up leaving snowshoe less and feeling like stupid city slickers that offended the woman for not knowing exactly how much snow was on a trail we’d never been to. Fortunately, our snow boots sufficed on the trail, so she saved us some cash… that earns one star. One more star just because our innkeeper highly recommends them when that particular woman isn’t manning the desk.

Bill has always been very helpful with current fishing hot spots and bait needed to catch the local fish. Bill and Sharon always have great stories to share with me whenI visit their shop. I would recommend stopping by to buy great gear at great prices. It’s so great to deal with nice people. Look forward to many more visits.
