Nice upbeat atmosphere with top notch food. Had a great time and made some new friends. I tried some Bison for the first time and was impressed. Everything was cooked well and served hot.

my bf wanted to take me since he had a good experience before. so i was game food i got the bison burger called the green and hot. it was a bit bland, i also got the 50⁄50 for the side. i liked the fries and o.rings. they bring you table side pickles which remind of what i got up in restaurants up in rhode island so that was a pleasant surprise. we also had an app which were the bison nachos, these were quite tasty service great, no problems whatsoever! our waitress was patient and brought us extra pickles and other things when we asked for them price a bit high considering its a burger parking on your own, we paid five bucks to park in a garage overall im glad i tried it but ill stick with five guys and thunderburger

I eat out often — and i have made Ted’s my regular stop for a quick dinner. The chili reminds me of home(i’m from the midwest) and when paired with bison sliders, it’s a great meal. Also, the pot roast is delish. they are always friendly, and i normally sit at the bar so it’s fast quick service. but i made the error of taking a date and sat in the restaurant part for the second time. the only reason it get’s 4 instead of 5 stars is that the wait staff in the main dining area is rough, slow and not 5 star — they are 3 star at best. too bad — otherwise this would be a slam dunk. Give them a try — and maybe you’ll see me sitting at the bar watching them grill up delicious meals.

This is probably the worst restaurant in the Ballston area. For the price you’re paying, you’d expect the food to be decent. The burgers are loaded with grease and the fries made me sick. The steak was full of fat and loaded with grease as well As for service, it took 45 minutes to get an order for a burger and steak. It took another 15 minutes to get a refill on the drinks and another 20 minutes to get the check. Avoid!

Been to a Ted’s you’ve been to them all. They do a solid job with pretty healthy options, I have a bison problem, so I like Teds. Get me a salad with a burger pattie on it, and I’m happy. This is a well run Teds and it’s consistent!

This Midwestern restaurant with a upscale approach was an interesting choice. The food was fairly decent, and the wait staff was friendly enough. Nothing really stuck out, Side from the overly Themed Midwestern wall décor. If you are into the Oklahoma and Midwestern jive, give this place a try. One thing I love to try was their pickles– was not impressed. They basically were slightly vinegary cucumbers.

I’ve never been to a Ted’s Montana Grill this bad. The service is terrible, the food didn’t taste right, and my drinking glass was dirty. I love this chain, but I don’t know if can ever go back.

Met two friends here for happy hour which is 4pm-7pm. There are several enticing things on the happy hour menu. We had the onion rings, burger($ 5), sliders, and nachos. All was good. We drank the house wine which was $ 6/glass on the happy hour menu. Service was great at the bar. This could be a regular pit stop!

Good stick to your ribs food, including the bison burger and bison steaks. Very convenient for those living in the Ballston neighborhood.

Great experience and good for kids(they have kids meals) and some excellent buffalo and chicken recipes. Good salads and beer too. Plenty of seating and in a nice area within walking distance of Ballston Mall(in the building behind the Glebe and Wilson exit of Macy’s). The food(meatloaf and burger were excellent and made to order).

How I heard of this place: When we moved in to our current apartment, we discovered it on one of many neighborhood walks. Type of cuisine: «Ted’s Montana Grill is a classic American Grill featuring fresh, made-from-scratch comfort food within an authentic turn-of-the-century Montana grill atmosphere… The menu… features made-from-scratch dishes including Certified Angus Beef, National Bison Association-certified bison, chicken and seafood. The time-honored American favorites include steaks, meatloaf, crab cakes, pecan-crusted trout, cedar plank salmon, burgers, chicken grills and vegetable sides. Fresh-cut fries, hand-dipped salt and pepper onion rings, delicious soups and an array of salads and desserts round out the menu.» Ambiance: «True to our heritage, you’ll find we never take shortcuts when making Ted’s Montana Grill authentic. From the warmth and charm of our overall atmosphere to the design-faithful craftsman-style architecture of the early 20th century. This was a time when comfort was key and only natural materials were used. And so it is today at Ted’s Montana Grill. Welcome to a great state of mind, right in your own backyard. Not modern. Not antique. Classic. And it all comes together to create an environment that makes customers feel relaxed. From the mahogany paneling, intricately tiled floors, distressed tin ceilings, pendant lighting, ceiling fans, metal crown moldings to the unpolished brass. Elements like our food, that are timeless.» The Ted’s Montana Grill perfectly depicts the experience. Old world saloon meets classy neighborhood grill. On their take-away menu, it shares: «There was a time when saloons served authentic food and drink to everyone from cowboys to land barons and genuine hospitality was a virtue. When good times and great meals would draw people together in one spirit. You’ll find that spirit alive and well at Ted’s Montana Grill.» What I ordered: To start, Bison Nachos($ 5 happy hour price): tortilla chips topped with Karen’s «Flying D» bison chili, fresh grated Pepper Jack, shaved green onions, diced tomatoes, jalapenos, and sour cream, a Shirley Temple($ 2.79), IBC root beer($ 2.99). For the main course, Avalon Burger($ 16 for bison meat) with melted Gruyère and a hint of Bleu cheese, crumbled bacon and sweet caramelized onions, a roasted garlic aioli and baby arugula on a toasted onion bun with a side of half-half of the fries and onion rings, and the Canyon Creek($ 16 for bison) with cheddar cheese, smoky bacon, fresh jalapenos, blackberry jam and a fried egg, over-easy. Same side, with the special onion ring horseradish dipping sauce. On a return visit, Wednesday, 25 April 2012: An order of Bison Nachos($ 8), IBC Root Beer($ 2.99 each), the 9-ounce Cedar Plank Salmon($ 18.50), with garlic mashed potatoes, country-style green beans, one biscuit and fresh horseradish sauce, the Cheese Burger($ 14) with Monteray Jack cheese on a bison patty, served with fries and toppings(lettuce, tomato, shredded cabbage, pickles) on the side, Balsamic Bleu Steak($ 14), with grilled certified Angus® beef sirloin, mixed greens, cucumber, crumbled Bleu cheese, smoky bacon, sliced vine-ripened tomatoes and a sweet balsamic glaze, topped with crispy fried onion straws. On a return visit, Wednesday, 13 June 2012: Bison Nachos and the Cadillac Burger with beef($ 12), prepared medium-well, with a side of fries and a bottle of sweet IBC Root Beer($ 2.99), the Swiss & Mushroom Burger with bison($ 15) and a Blackberry Lemonade($ 2.99). What I loved: The Bison Nachos, topped with the bison chili, was good enough to lick the plate clean. The flavors and memory lasted the entire meal, making everything else pale in comparison. The über-sweet Shirley Temple washed down my second favorite: Chris’s burger, the Canyon Creek, the blackberry jam strangely delicious with the greasy, breakfast-y burger. The fries and the onion rings followed by way of favorites in the meal. The nachos, though, well worth every cent, and calling for a return trip to Ted’s…any moment. Why I loved it: Among the things I loved, I absolutely love the Ted’s commitment to the environment and eco-friendly nature. Cost: Average to high($ 11-$ 28 per dinner entrée)

«Hi, party of 25?» I could practically hear the sound of hearts sinking and breaths being stolen from the staff when those words were uttered. No matter how fancy or casual a restaurant, accomodating a party of 25 is no easy feat, so when a group of coworkers and I came to Ted’s one night, I was ready for a hectic experience to say the least. Before I dive too deeply into how we managed to invade Ted’s, I should say something about the food. Ted’s Montana Grill specializes itself in serving the largest bison centric menu in the world. Basically any burger can be had in a bison version instead of of beef, while bison also stars as the key meat of classic dishes like meatloaf and pot roast. So what is bison like? Well, like beef, actually. The flavours, especially when topped and sauced, is similar to beef except it is leaner and has a slight more gaminess and iron-yness. Bison is not something you find on many menus, but for those venturing into game meats for the first time, bison is a good first step. So what did I order? I got myself a Canyon Creek Bison Burger with a «50÷50» — a mix of onion rings and fries. The Canyon creek pairs a thick bison patty with cheddar, finely chopped jalepeno, blackberry jam, bacon, and a fried egg– So much«Yes!» in one description, I know. The burger itself was quite good. The mix of sweet and savoury, and the contrast between the leaness of the bison patty and the rich egg yolk made for a circus of flavours on my tongue. The juicy patty itself was not very seasoned and was a bit bland, but the toppings helped mask that. The fries were pretty standard thick-cut frites while the onion rings were very good. The salt-and-pepper batter is fried extra crispy and is very flavorful, easily some of the best onion rings I have eaten. Washing down the bison-y goodness was a drink which caught my eye from the get go. It’s called the Buffalo 41 — a mix of wildberry lemonade, Grand Marnier, and Buffalo Trace Bourbon. Being a huge Buffalo Trace fan, the drink was, in a word, delicious. The sweet take on a bourbon cocktail worked very well. It’s a little fruity up front, but then it follows with that mellow, warm bourbon background that makes you want to go in for more. Aside from the fact it was about 30 degrees outside, I could see myself drinking that all day in the summer on a beach. So back to the big question — how did Ted’s handle our party of 25? Very well. Very, very well. Our server was probably Wonder Woman in disguise. Not only was she amazingly efficient and friendly, but she managed to keep everything running with the precision of a fine Swiss watch. She even split our checks 25 ways. I repeat, 25 Ways. I cringe at the mere thought of it but she troopered on. So what about the restaurant’s space? Well, the restaurant itself is actually surprisingly large. Yes, it feels a bit dated, and the hanging buffalo head is a constant reminder that yes, you are indeed eating a mammal the size of a truck, but it’s comfortable and inoffensive. Location wise, it’s right near the Ballston Mall where you can park cheaply and conveniently. Overall, Ted’s Montana Grill is a very solid restaurant. The food is good, the service fast, and prices reasonable enough. My burger ran about $ 17 while my drink was $ 9. Not cheap, but I can justify a visit every now and then. It’s worth the visit.

Worked late at client’s office, and needed dinner for the team. This place is close by, so we ordered takeout. All food was good, well prepared, nicely packaged for takeout. Atmosphere in restaurant looked nice, I can easily see dining in here.

I love love love Ted’s, I became a fan while in college years ago down south but now that I’m back home I’m so happy Ted’s is available on the east coast. I always get a bison dish because there’s no point in coming to a buffalo restaurant and not eating it. It certainly is a taste alternative to beef and I love it… yummy! The service is always great right along with the music, a lovely place to come converse and indulge.

Glad we decided to check this place out. Our waiter(Chip) was super friendly and helpful with touring through the menu! He recommended the Avalon bison burger with housemade onion rings and it was on point. My sister got the bison rib-eye and loved it as well. For dessert we shared the apple crisp and it was delish! Overall it was a good experience I’d definitely come back! Update: this is for the crystal drive location in Arlington!

Start off with house made pickles which were a nice touch, but that’s where the positives kinda stop. The table ordered versions of burgers cooked in three different temps, but they were all cooked the same and served well done. This makes for an extremely dry and unpleasant burger. This lack of attention of being able to regulate what degree bison and beef are cooked to is a big detail that was missing from our visit. It’s unpleasant to eat such a dry burger, especially for a $ 16 price tag. It was difficult to track down service to even attempt to remedy the situation. The majority of their menu items can be tailored to what temp you desire, so the lack of actual execution makes this a very saddening experience. Coupled with non existent service and questionable booth cleanliness(there was a lot of salt crystals sprinkled all over the place), I don’t think I would come back. On a side note– their menu is quite literal. When it says an onion ring, they are quite literal with it.
