I don’t travel a lot. I don’t have unrealistic expectations about wherever I choose to lodge or put undue stress on the employees there. I don’t steal the towels. I try to be a good person and give the benefit of the doubt. This place is full of doubt. The night clerk was very rude, uncompromising, and just plain unpleasant to talk to. I originally requested and paid for a room for two weeks. When something came up that allowed me to check out earlier, he straight up refused to give me a refund for the days that I would not be using my room. Here’s a little advice, business owners. The customer is allowed to get upset and raise their voice. Their business is what keeps you in business. You and your employees are not allowed to get upset and raise your voices. I was shaking in anger at how the clerk was talking to me. I felt like I was trying to haggle over the price of a piece of fruit in a third world country somewhere. Completely unacceptable. Same with the owners, who I requested to talk to in person or over the phone, but who only considered a text message sufficient. Nice customer service, guys. Their policy is to not give refunds, ever. Fair enough. It’s stamped on your receipt. But seriously, we’re all human beings here. We live on this planet. We eat, live, and work together. To charge someone a full two weeks when they’ve only stayed two days is beyond the pale. It’s wrong. The room itself was old, musty, and dated. The sheets smelled. There were bugs in there. This is the bare minimum someone would expect from any motel, but not for the price I paid, which was ridiculous in hindsight. The furnishings were very cheap. And guess what? The cleaning crew is the night clerk. Perfect. I don’t think he even cleaned my room once. One night, a couple of guys started banging on the door of the room next to mine, demanding money from the occupant inside. After they were done, they peeled out of the parking lot. This is New York, all right. The bad part of New York. Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone under any circumstance. Be smarter than me and choose to stay at an established chain. That way if you have a complaint, you can report to higher management or even corporate if you have to. The New York Inn is obviously run by a family, so they don’t answer to anybody. They probably don’t care about repeat business, either. They want your money and that’s it. See ya later. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
