We came here recently for lunch as we previously had a good experience with their dinner. We ordered the fried calamari, the prime rib, and the seafood combo. The calamari was as I expected(which was good). The prime rib was very good but very fatty with huge chunks of fat. Unfortunately, the seafood combo wasn’t as good as expected. Still, we’ll most likely return to try out their other beef items.

Checked in 45 minutes ago. There are 2 very young men, at the front seating patrons, one with dark glasses and the other one with brown hair were extremely rude. The brown hair kid had a sissy fit and cursed and punched the wall. Unable to handle the stresses of a Saturday Night. Patrons were astonished at the behavior. Can’t be his first rodeo.

Been going here since I was a kid. They have the best potato skins around. The staff is really nice and welcoming. The atmosphere is great. Their food is very good for cheap prices! I still come here all the time and never have had a bad experience.

We have been coming here for years, and still just a great! The food, prices, and service are all great. I have never had a bad meal, the chicken teriyaki is delicious. They have a nice big bar, and a large dining area. Definately not a young crowd, but it’s worth it. You won’t be disappointed!

I was reminded tonight why I haven’t been to Jimmy’s in years. While shopping for a car at the dealership next door my husband and I decided to stop in for a quick dinner. Big mistake. We ordered the buffalo chicken tenders and the carrots that were served with them were so old you could bend them. The salads were nothing more than bag salad with a few cucumbers thrown in. The steak dinner was served with a baked potato only. Could you throw a vegetable in? Should have hopped in the car and went to the barbecue joint up the street.

I like this place and do think its a good value. Its true that the crowd tends to be older but the menu is probably the reason for that. Haven’t seen teriyaki on a menu for decades. And will agree that steak isn’t top quality. Capital grill it is not. But it is tasty food served in a lovely atmosphere at reasonable prices. If you want fancy, upscale, hip… this is not your place. I can go alone and spread out in a comfy booth and not be rushed. Works for me!

There are only two reasons why Jimmy’s doesn’t have a higher rating: 1. Not a younger crowd. The problem is that it has been good for so long, the average diners tend to be a bit older. Not necessarily a bad thing. 2. People don’t know what to order. Many items on the menu are adequate to good, but the steak teriyaki is superb. The surf and turf(steak teriyaki with baked stuffed shrimp(don’t forget to get some melted butter for dipping)) is my personal favorite. A baked potato(with sour cream) is good, but the rice pilaf is superb. Any salad is good, but the house dressing makes it awesome. You get the picture.

Shocked at how good the steak was… I love Filet Mignon, but i craved more after finishing the one here it was so good. I like how all entrees are served with a dinner salad and a choice of side(i love the baked potato or rice). The environment isn’t my favorite(dark, dark wood kind of saloon-like), but the booths are comfy and if its cold outside it feels cozy inside. Go if you want a nice American meal of steak and potatoes, but be warned on the weekends this place is PACKED and there is often a wait of over 20 minutes.

More than likely I’m the idiot in this review and that’s why they’re getting 3 stars instead of 2. I had lunch with my in laws there today and I foolishly ordered the fish and chips. I know, who orders seafood at a steakhouse??? Therefore, I’m willing to take the blame, at least the majority of it. But it was GODAWFUL, like just take it off the menu awful. And stick to what you’re known for, cooking up cows.

Best place around for steak and seafood without going into Boston! My husband is all about parking — and they have their own lot. We too have been going here for years and are never disappointed. You are seated almost immediately even at busy times. The wait staff are always friendly and efficient. The food is fresh, nicely seasoned and home cooked. Nice hot rolls with soft(not rock hard) butter. Icy cold fresh salads. Our favorite dishes are the steak tips, prime rib, etc… Recently I tried the scallops Florentine and it was nicely prepared sauteed onions & spinach with a mornay sauce. My side order of mixed steamed vegetables was really delish and unexpected. We did have a dessert that was out of this world — a very light cheesecake with caramel sauce! The prices are very reasonable and fit the location. If you want to pay more for fancy — go to Boston. If you want good food, parking and a relaxing venue go to Jimmy’s.

My Dad recommended Jimmy’s saying back in the day it was a good family restaurant – good food, reasonably priced, and appealing ambiance. He sure was right! But why the 3 stars only? Maybe I’m just too critical or have such high expectations but let me explain… Seating: Weekday 7 pm with no reservation, party of 4. We were greeted by the friendly host and seated immediately in a comfortable booth in the main dining room. Service: Our waitress, as busy as she was, was pleasant and familiar with the menu. She came by often to refill our water glasses, bread basket, and ask if our food was ok. Food: I ordered the marinated steak tips, medium done, with fries. Yes, the steak tips were delicious and cooked exactly how I wanted but the plating was completely sub-par. It was a busy night, I understand, but no time and thought was taken into making the food presentation appealing. It was just steak and fries dumped onto another plate. For dessert, there were about 5 dessert items on their menu – none of which were terribly appealing to us. Price: All dinner entrée plates are reasonably priced under $ 20. Parking: Jimmy’s has a private lot for parking. There is also street parking should the lot be full. Overall, good date place – sure, why not. Hip and young crowd – not so much. Full bar – yup. Affordable – yes. Understanding staff – yes. Give it a shot if you’re in Arlington and craving steak!

AH Jimmy’s has been my no fail go to for a great steak at a great price for decades. I have never had a meal not cooked to perfection. The rice pilaf is fantastic and I always get some to go too. LOVE the staff — always polite, friendly, fast and knowledgeable. On the only occassion that my husband received an undercooked steak, the manager promptly came over and apologized and offered a free appetizer or dessert.

I’ve been coming here often and for years. It’s always busy and for good reason. Good prices and a nice atmosphere. Quick and pleasant service. The food is very good and always consistent. I recommend the steak tips or the baked stuffed haddock. The prices are surprisingly reasonable.

As a sibling to The Château and Grassfields, I definitely like this place the best. Be prepared for a crowded parking lot because this place is packed on a weekend evening. I usually get the prime rib there, and some appetizers — the calamari is perfect. It’s the kind of place you go to and leave satisfied. Always had a good experience. This is my version of comfort food. The only thing I didn’t like was the bleu cheese dressing but that’s it. One of the victims who lost their lives at The Boston Marathon bombing had worked there, and they had a tribute to her near the door which I found thoughtful.

To me, their dishes are too salty and small portion, over cooked medium rare steak was dry and hard to chew. we were not served with water until we asked.

Geriatric . Not Great, but does what it does fairly well though In a kind of a very predictable, portion controlled, geriatric sort of way, Staff is Old New England friendly & seating is pretty comfortable with lots of dimly lit booths. Chief complaint is the quality of the food, the steaks & roast beef(which are pretty much their namesake) are NOT as good quality as I would get from my local supermarket. which is truly unacceptable for a steak house. But knowing this from previous visits, and having listened to my fellow Unilocalers (My 1st mistake?) This time I tried the baked stuffed schrod, The stuffing(sic) was a rather dry coating placed on top of the baked fish. But the problem(as with the beef) is a far less than excellent product. the fish was alright but about half as fresh tasting and delicate as schrod would be from say Legal or a high quality seafood house. On the positive side of things their baked potatoes are cooked perfectly and are excellent, and it is a fairly relaxing & undemanding environment.

I reviewed Jimmy’s sister restaurant, Grassfields in September of 2014 so the food is basically the same here as it is there. This is definitely a dimly-lit restaurant. Not a bad thing, mind you. Just my initial observation. They have a series of flat screen TVs across their bar, but I came there to get a table, so I didn’t partake in any libations. Being a Wednesday night, I waited all of maybe two minutes before a table was available which was appreciated because I was starving. I’ve been here a few times and they’ve always served amazing meals. Last night was no exception. I started with their buffalo tenders that were moist, amazingly hot(…in a good way), and delicious… and yes, they come with bleu cheese dressing, as well as celery and carrot sticks. My favorite meal there is the one I ordered last night: the baked stuffed scrod. They gave me a nice, healthy-sized portion and their signature stuffing is nothing short of amazing in my humble opinion. Another amazing thing Jimmy’s serves is their rice pilaf. They mix in shreds of spinach with just a hint of onion for flavor and… WOW, is this stuff ever amazing! I know it sounds weird to extol the virtues of rice, but this stuff is just phenomenally delicious. I hadn’t ever tried their french fries, so I chose to add fries to my order(…I was crazy hungry last night) and on account of the fact that I wasn’t ordering a salad, that extra side wound up being free which I appreciated. Keep in mind that if you were to order their stuffed shrimp(…which my wife loves), they use that same amazing stuffing that they use for the stuffed scrod. The desserts are pretty good, too. They have five dessert items. Not a huge selection, I know, but they’ll likely have something you will enjoy. I didn’t have a dessert last night, but in the past, I’ve tried their Ghirardelli brownie(…did I spell that right?) with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, and whipped cream which is rich, filling, and quite delicious. I’ve also had their rice pudding which is a surprising hit there. They add ground cinnamon and raisins to it which makes it a perfect dessert and lighter on the tummy. Other desserts they have include strawberry cheesecake, strawberry shortcake, and a fifth dessert which, if memory serves, involves vanilla ice cream, drizzled caramel and pecan nuts. If I had just one complaint, it would be the service and even this is a very MINOR complaint. The waitress seemed a bit tense and rushed me on a few points during the meal(…and keep in mind, I’m a pretty fast eater), but what I found odd was that she never, ever asked me how everything was. I thought that was one of the universal rules of waiting tables. I noticed it only because I was fully prepared to dole out great praise on an excellent meal(…which it really was), but she never bothered to ask. Was this a deal-breaker? Not at all. I just found it a bit odd. I could understand if the place was wall-to-wall patrons, but the amount of people in the restaurant during my time there was most assuredly manageable. I also thought it was interesting that a messy and vacated table right across from me remained messy from the time I sat down until the time my entrée arrived(…bear in mind, I had a diet Coke, rolls, and a buffalo tender appetizer served to me and the mess remained throughout all of that). About a minute before my dinner arrived, the waitress finally got around to clearing that particular table. Again, not a big deal, but a little peculiar given the minimal amount of tables she seemed to be waiting on at the time. She also kinda rushed me a bit once the bill came. She left it on my table as I was trying to finish my meal and it was all of maybe 90 seconds before she came to collect the money. I hadn’t reached for my wallet yet. To her credit, she apologized and told me to take my time, but as it seemed she wanted to get it out of the way, I gladly gave her my credit card and that was that. Again, no big deal and it didn’t detract from my phenomenal meal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant again and again.

Came here over a year ago with my family for my graduation dinner. Typical steakhouse with various cuts and sides. I got the Prime Rib and it was not bad at all. For the price you pay its definitely a good deal. However, I have had way better Prime Ribs. Service was really friendly and attentive.
