Saturday, 8 August, 12:45pm Terrible customer service and clear prejudice against non-Spanish speakers. I waited in line behind 4 Spanish speaking customers that were served in front of me. They did not take numbered tickets so neither did I. But when it came time to serve me, a Spanish speaking man interrupted me while I was giving my order. I could not understand the rapid Spanish phrases he used with the cashier, but after she told me I had to go to the back of the line, now about 6 people long, presumably to take a numbered ticket, even though none of the 3 Spanish speaking customers in front of me had taken a ticket. After I explained that I was confused and had been waiting in line like everyone else, the only response was. Go to the back of the line. I’m certain if I would have been able to converse in Spanish beyond the very limited ability I have to recognize some often used words, I would have received better customer service. It’s clearly Castro’s Bakery’s prerogative to offer better service to fluent Spanish speakers, but because of this clear bias in service I will never come back to his store and I would strongly recommend other non-Spanish speaking customers do the same.

I stumble on this bakery by chance. I followed my nose even though I was quite full at the time. The smell of bread and baked goods just drowns me in. There are plenty on offers here, you can order cakes, pick one up, many bread and buns. Cookies… etc. They also sell the huge paper gadget where you put sweets and goodies inside for kids’ birthday, I don’t know what they call in Spanish,(I wish I do!) it is a good Latino bakery. Staffs are friendly and speaks English too.

Their goods are OK nothing to jump up and down for, Their customer service is not the best. The employees are OK but the owner’s relatives are by far the worst when it comes to customer service. I am NOT going there again.

I find this to be a good bakery in the area. For something quick this is the place to pick something up but not for the truly special items.

I agree that their baked goods aren’t anything to write home about… BUT!!! My mother got me hooked on their Salvadoran fruit cakes. One of her girlfriends introduced her to these cakes, and they have been a staple for various family functions. Please note that the parking situation is virtually nonexistent and if you are visiting during a major holiday– it’s a nightmare!

While I am impressed with their assortment of goods, their Mexican baked goods were not all that yummy. The saving grace comes from their flan and(oddly enough) baklava. I don’t crave this place and wouldn’t make an extra trip to go back but I would duck in if I my sweet tooth was jonzing for something and I was in the area.

For those of you who haven’t been to South America these cakes will probably be good. For me they are okay, to me they have shopper’s quality, nothing extra ordinary. Tres leches is the most popular there and it’s basically the yellow cake with two layers of that white cream similar to whip cream. nothing out of this world… Look guys if you want to be original just make your own little cake and you can put chocolate in the middle or carmenl in the middle I am sure yours will taste much better and will b much cheaper. By the way I tasted a cake from Cenan’s bakery in Vienna and it was very good.
