Capri Pizza & Subs

With Capri almost across the street from my work, I would pop in there almost daily for lunch. Sammy the previous owner was wonderful, the food was good, quick and reasonable. Last summer I went in and found two new guys behind the counter. Besides being somewhat rude, they want to decide how you want your sandwich. A common order for me was tuna salad in a wheat wrap, maybe with a bag of chips. And I had never, ever seen anyone grill a tuna sandwich. NOT a tuna melt, just tuna salad. The guy was offended when I told him NOT to grill it all that does it make the wrap hard. Also they insist you get fries with everything.
I tried one more time, and things were no better. I have not been back. And I won’t go back. Those new guys should change the name — it’s deceptive to people to think they might be visiting the place that was once so great.

Do I have to even give a star? The quality of the attitude here is just as sloppy as the quality of the food. I’ve been treated better by a junkie on their worst day of withdrawal. I get it, I’d be miserable too if I owned a pizza shop that smelt like cat piss everywhere but you don’t need to take it out on your customers. I wasn’t even able to place an order because right as I walked in with my two friends from out of town, he looked them up and down, scoffed, and started making vile comments and jokes about the gay community (obviously because my two friends are a MARRIED gay couple) to one
of his workers. Whether he was purposely trying to make obvious of how un welcomed we were being there or not, we left shortly after because even when I still tried to place an order he interrupted me with a disgusting ungrateful cough without bothering to try to cover his mouth leaving spit on the counter. Needless to say I would have rather starved to death than eat from a disgusting place like this.

I used to love Capri’s pizza before the ownership change. It was good New York style pizza. Now, it seems like they are trying to make the same pizza but all of the ingredients have changed for the worst. The fresh mushrooms are gone in favor of canned. The sauce is now very sweet. The crust has lost all of its character. The pizza is extremely greasy — I’ve actually never seen pizza that greasy in my life. Suffice to say, I can’t go back there now.

Like others on here I didn’t know the ownership changed until I ordered a pizza from them. I’ve been in the Lexington/​Arlington area for over 10 years now and Capri has always been my favorite pizza. The previous owner made such a good one — thin crust, just the right amount of cheese, yummy sauce. If you got a veggie pizza they were sliced nice and thin (almost shaved) so they cooked really well and was really easy to eat.
Unfortunately, it seems the pizza has also changed and not in a good way. The new owners seem very nice and the subs, from what I can tell with one that I ordered, seem to remain really good. I’m sorry to say the pizza was terrible. Like a previous review stated, the dough was thicker and really gummy, it almost seemed undercooked especially in the middle. There was way, way too much cheese on it but if you’re a fan of extra cheese pizza you will probably like their regular cheese pizza. I can’t imagine what they do when you order «extra cheese». We also got a veggie pizza and the peppers and onions were sliced so thick they barely softened which made the flimsy doughy pizza with hard, crispy veggies difficult to eat. I wonder if the excessive cheese causes the middle of the pizza to get super soggy.
I’m really sad to see the old owner go, he was awesome and did such a great job. The new owners seem really nice and I’m sure it’s not easy taking over a place that’s been such a staple in Arlington, I wish them a lot of luck. I’ll continue going to Capri for subs but I can’t imagine eating the pizza again. Maria’s in East Arlington is a bit closer to the capri-​style and will be my go-​to for pizza.

Ordered my usual pizza only to find out upon arrival the ownership changed hands over the summer but retained the Capri name. The sauce and crust are no better than store bought so I’ve visited Capri for the last time (unless the original ownership returns). I recommend exploring elsewhere or send them a recipe for real sauce.

Just gave it another try, with yet another owner since August. Pleasant enough service, but not so with the pizza, the worst part was the dough at the bottom of the pizza was gummy, even when I reheated it, it remained gummy. I guess that means back to Francos in Waltham.

I wrote my prior review before I learned of the ownership change at Capri. It was written within the last month, but it was based upon my last visit to Capri earlier this summer. As I stated in my first review, I have always been a huge fan of Capri and always referred to their pizza as the best in Arlington. I felt a little bit disappointed when I heard the news of the ownership change. I was driving by today and decided to stop in and give the pizza a try. There was an unfamiliar face behind the counter when I entered the shop. I am assuming he may be the new owner and seemed pleasant enough, but not as friendly and welcoming as the prior management. I ordered just a slice and it went in the oven to be reheated. It appeared the same as the old Capri, but maybe not quite as thin. I swear the sauce has slightly less flavor, but the crust tastes about the same. It is similar to the original Capri, but did not seem as delicious as usual. The whole experience today was different and although the pizza shop looks exactly the same, it did not feel like good old Capri.
I am taking off a star for now and hoping the reason for the less than perfect Capri slice was the fact it was reheated and not freshly made. I plan to go back soon and see if the delicious chicken fingers have changed as well in addition to some other menu items I have always liked. Hoping this is not the beginning to the end of my beloved pizza shop.

I have have been buying pizza here since I moved to Lexington in 1999. Sometimes I strayed but always came back. It was great up until recently (mid-​July 2015). I returned in August and found that the crust had gotten thicker, and the topping had a lot more cheese. The pizza has lost its balance. If you were a fan of the old Nicola’s Pizza that used to be down the street, you’ll like it.
I read another review that said the ownership changed. We’ll miss Sam. Now it’s time to find a new favorite pizza place. Me and my money will go elsewhere.

This is my favorite quick slice of cheese in the area. The owner is incredibly welcoming and the the product is great!

Capri is my go to pizza parlor in Arlington for buffalo chicken calzones. So good.

This place used to be a great stop for a slice or a sub, but I guess the former owner sold the business and the new staff decided to do it their way, which is to serve lukewarm slices and a mediocre Italian sub smothering it with diced green peppers.

A great place to grab a quick slice of pizza. Capri isn’t the best Pizza I’ve ever had but it is consistently good. The owner (I assume that’s who he is since he’s there constantly) is very friendly and likes to chat with his customers. A nice little pizza and sub shop.

Relax people this us a pizza and sub shop not a gourmet restaurant. The pizza and subs are fine at a reasonable price. It’s not the best but it’s far from the worst of its kind.

People tend to either love or hate this place. I personally think the pizza is gross, but my parents, siblings, and best friend all think it’s the best in town.
To me, it’s some how limp/​flaccid in a way that pizza SHOULD NOT BE. Just gross.
But my family loves it. And it’s a local place with nice staff. Give it a try if you like thin crust pizza; you might love it. Personally, I don’t.

I have been a customer for 5 years and it is a simple pizza and sub shop. If you are looking for more go somewhere else.
Pizza is great thin crusted pizza. They put more cheese than other places and I appreciate that and they have hot slices on the spot. I am a big fan of there Steak and cheese. They also use fresh onions, peppers and mushrooms on there Steak and cheese. Surprisingly they have very good Tuna Fish subs.
Plus they have recently remodeled the store this past summer.

Capri Pizza is a staple of Arlington Heights, unfortunately I’m an East Arlington guy. The pizza here is good and always consistent. It’s a never a bad stop for a quick slice.

didn’t love it. Pizza was Ok/​good. Salad had brown lettuce, some pieces were slimy. I threw it out. I probably won’t return, but if I do, it will be because the people who work there are very nice.

Small mom & pop shop. Great tuna sub, friendly service, nice prices, they even have a few tables to sit and eat. Avoid the lines at D’Agostino’s and come here instead.
