In my 25 years of living the Japan foodie life I don’t recall having something as unagreeable as their signature dish(Mei butsu) the Sutadon. I’m told on good authority that it’s all about the Japanese«Stamina» thing so I guess it’s supposed to taste like a bad energy drink. It came close. The quality was fine and the service good so I suppose it’s just a matter of taste– just want to say that their more traditional dishes are probably a better bet unless you are trying to eat your way to a healthy libido or something.

I had a very light miso soup at a reasonable price here, which was only $ 1.66 with tax. Service was expectantly friendly, and there appears to be no minimum for credit cards.

I’ve been back to Mitsuwa a couple of times now and I have consistently gone to Sutadonya. I’m not saying it’s better than Santouka but you can’t compare the two because they are serving two different things. The last couple of times, I have not felt like ramen and Sutadonya has really hit the spot for me. The garlic pork bowl has so much garlic punch that I can’t resist it. I also tried the karaage(fried chicken) curry and it was delicious as well. I got this one to go because I got greedy and ordered two entrees for myself. It seems like they upgraded their to-go curry container and now I got much more curry sauce than last time. I love that they split up the traditional Japanese shop and now specialize in their own things(ramen at Santouka, pork bowl and curry at Sutadonya, tempura at Tendon Hannosuke, and soon udon at the new Sanuki Seimen Mugimaru). This food court always makes me fondly remember the meals I had in Japan.

Sutadonya is a perfectly fine place to get lunch. This shop is located in the food court section of Mitsuwa Market. Seating is like at any other mall food court; first come first serve. They will give you a number when you place your order, and call you up when it is ready. I have been to Mitsuwa before, but not to this particular food stall. My dad and I decided to order separate things from different shops to share and try out, and this was his selection. We decided to order a #11, which is Katsu Curry. It is a fried, breaded pork cutlet served atop rice with a curry sauce($ 8.99). It took a while for the food to come out, but when it did we were pretty impressed with the portion size; it was massive. The two of us were able to eat a good amount and still didn’t finish everything on the plate. The pork was the best part of the dish for me. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The breading was crispy and golden, and the pork inside was soft and tender. As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t even need the sauce. That said, the sauce was pretty good too. It had a nice flavor to it, but I don’t know that I’ll remember it five meals from now. I’d return to this stall in the future, but it wouldn’t be my first pick when looking at the available options within Mitsuwa.

Great tasting choices, large portions and they really keep you full. Staff is nice and its very quick, even when the place is busy.

I went to Sutadonya on the day it opened(and roughed out an insanely long line) and went again last week(when the line was nonexistent). It’s safe to say the initial appeal of Sutadonya has worn off… but with a couple of new places on the horizon for the food court at Mitsuwa, expect lines to grow once again at those spots. Sutadonya has food displays in a case next to their stand which I’m sure is helpful for people but it kind of creeps me out and seems like a waste of space. Especially because above this display are photos of the items. Ah well! Whatever it takes for people to understand what they are ordering. +They take credit card. +Portions are huge — like too much for me to eat in one seating! +Food is decent but not mind blowing. +Service is fast & food is ready quickly. +Prices aren’t horrible but I also wouldn’t call it cheap. Their chicken karage is tasty with four large pieces but something just pains me paying $ 9 for this dish when I know I can get the same hot food portion, albeit without rice, for $ 3 at Tensuke. Their signature Sutadon dish, I found to be a bit flavorless and plain even with the garlic and chicken. Honestly, with so many other restaurants in the food court, including one of the best places for ramen… as well as super fresh delicious sushi from the grab & go market… I don’t see myself giving Sutadonya another go.

I had the #1 Sutadon, Fried Egg, White rice. I am not sure what their fried egg is but this egg was basically an egg that was dumped into boiling water that cooked instantly. The yolk is like a hard boiled and and it was kinda cold. Not a fan of that at all. The garlic pork and the rice was amazing though. Salty and a hint of sweet at the same time. I would pick this over the ramen in the future. It If you eat the pork straight up, it’s overly salty, make sure to grab some rice to balance it out. I don’t know about their marketing that people line up for this stuf, but it was definitely worth the money, I will get it again. The service was fairly fast, about 10 minutes during dinner time on a Saturday, faster than the ramen we ordered about 3 minutes before seeing this place. The ramen took another 3 minutes so 10 minutes vs 16 minutes is great. Also the girl at the counter was so sweet, nice, and polite.

My buds and I wanted to meet up for lunch today, so we wound up meeting at the food court at Mitsuwa Marketplace. Both of them have been here previously and had a fighting knowledge of some(all?) of the food outlets past and present. This was my debut at Mitsuwa, so all the food places looked good to me. We all wound up ordering lunch from Sutadonya, one of the newer establishments which apparently took over the slot from a Japanese burger place. Sutadonya(Densetsu No Sutadonya) is a chain of restaurants that originated in Japan in 1971. There is a video loop that played above the menu and accompanying plastic images of their food items, with some of the history of the Japanese chain. Ordering was easy enough, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that they accept credit cards(most or all of the other outlets are cash only). My order was ready for me fairly quickly(apparently the lunch crowd on this particular Monday afternoon was lighter than the norm). I suppose some of the food items might take longer to prepare than others. There are self-serve water dispensers if you do not wish to order a beverage. One of my buds ordered the Number 1 item — the Sutadon(Stamina pork bowl) with pork belly, garlic, onions and rice. The Sutadon is regarded as its star dish in Japan. My other bud ordered a similar rice bowl but with an egg on top, and he also ordered a side order of gyoza dumplings — I tried one and it was tasty. I ordered the Number 11 — the katsu curry dish. The breaded pork cutlet came with curry sauce with onions, and a generous portion of white rice. I’d say the pork tasted ok, while the flavorful curry sauce was actually the star of my dish.

First time I went it was really good but the second time it was horrible. My chicken wasn’t even cooked all the way. Also the sweet tangy sauce for my chicken was so salty and the chicken was pink. Bad. When I went to complain the manager was so rude!

I finally got to try this place! It’s just been a while since I’ve been at Misuwa for a meal… We ordered the Sutadon with the hot spring egg and it did not disappoint! It’s a little on the saltier side, but that’s why you should make sure to eat it with the rice underneath. So I thought the egg would be a little more«runny» after popping it open, but it’s actually almost like a soft boiled egg where the yolk is just medium done. It was still good, but I might actually like it if it were almost like a poached egg, and then you pop open the egg for that runny egg porn goodness. Oh well, maybe I can ask for that next time? Will try.

I was disappointed when Gabutto Burger closed but after eating at Sutadonya a few times I think I am ready to move on! The food is fresh tasting and, if you like garlic, this place is for you. I already am settling in on a favorite with the thinly sliced pork an garlic over a bowl of rice. And they make decent gyoza, too. Every time we go through Chicago we stop here to eat, so I’ll definitely be back.

My advice on a busy day(mostly weekend), order your food and get your grocery while waiting. The microphone is so loud you can here it from the grocery. There are so many people, you have to wait 30 minutes for your food. When we ordered, there were 20 people ahead of us. I think this place gets busy because they’re the only one who accepts credit/debit cards. They will call your number when your food is ready. We ordered number 7– Katsudon & number 11– Katsu curry. My favorite when it comes to flavor was the katsudon, it was good but the chicken was too thick, they only put one fillet on your bowl. Not much chicken and too much rice. The Katsu curry was good too, but the chicken was small as well. We also tried their Sutadon but it was too salty for me.

I took my friend on an adventure to Mitsuwa Marketplace on a lunch break. Sutadonya is the newest restaurant in the food court. I wanted ramen, but my friend decided to get the pan friend gzoya. For $ 5 you get 10 of them(cheap!). She let me try some, and they were delicious! I haven’t tried any of their other food, but if it is anything like the gzoya then they are in good shape. Also, they do take credit cards(unlike the other places in the food court that are cash only).

Came for lunch during the week and was pleasantly surprised by this place. The best part is that they take credit cards! This was my first time trying their signature dish — cant remember the name — but it was the sliced garlic pork with onions. It was pretty delicious with the soft boiled egg. The entrée was filling and flavourful. I understand that they are still working out kinks, but the only complaint is that it took 15 – 20 mins to get food out.

I got the SUTADON with the fried egg on top!($ 8−9… so cheap!) It was soo tasty! Thinly sliced pork cooked with green and white onions over steamed sticky rice :) The juice from the pork just seeps into the white rice and the whole thing is just so delicious. It’s like comfort food! The wait was long, but with a new place, that is pretty much expected — especially on the weekends! I absolutely recommend this place!

The girl behind the register, is a bit on the fluster/nervous side for 11:09AM on a Tuesday morning. Not exactly welcoming, but very polite. The review is based on the service, curry, and the katsu. You can get a curry plate for $ 6.99, or add a succulent pork katsu cutlet for an extra $ 2 @ $ 8.99. Please note that the curry is not vegetarian. It contains curry sauce, onions, and what appears to be very thinly sliced pork/pork belly. The curry sauce is delicious, very mild and had the perfect consistency. However, it is lacking on the bits of deliciousness I’m used to finding in curry like carrots, potatoes, and substantial amount of meats. It’s not quite worth the $ 6.99 price tag, but if you really need some curry, it will do. The katsu was juicy and tender, had the perfect panko crunch, and it wasn’t greasy. It is a decent size portion, roughly the size of 1.5 deck of cards. Keep in mind you are only paying an extra $ 2 for the cutlet. Definitely worth a try if you need a curry katsu fix at a reasonable price. It’s not quite the 4 stars, but it’s definitely a solid 3.

Came here opening day. 1. Yes line is terrible but they just opened and this is not McD’s 2. Food was tasty. How do they do that spring egg? 3. They have carry-out, so order yours to go so you don’t have to ask for a container since you probably won’t be able to finish. 4. The double is only 2x meat, if you want more rice, you will have to get the large. 5. 1 star off for the long wait, but this will improve once they get into the groove.

This new restaurant is located inside the Mitsuwa food court and they take both cash and credit! We had the 10 piece pan fried gzoya(4.99) and the #18 garlic pork with rice(7.99). For the price, it was pretty good. The gzoya was a little greasy and the sauce is basically black oil, but it was tasty enough. The pork was very flavorful and comes with a side of rice and sliced cabbage. You don’t get too much, but for under 10, it was decent. Service was okay. Not particularly friendly or anything. The wait was pretty short, just 5 minutes to order and then 15 minutes to get our food. We will be back if we forget cash and want to dine at Mitsuwa!

There were 2 people in front of me when we ordered the Sutadon with white rice and a fried egg for my son, got my pager, and after 20minutes, I was worried that the pager wasn’t working so wewent up to check on the order. While we were waiting in line, the pager buzzed at 25 minutes. Long story short, in my son’s opinion, it was good! 25 minutes good? Eh I didn’t think so but he sure did! I removed 1 star for the long wait. 4 stars cause my kid is happy and full!
