I’ve been wanting to try this place forever, and have heard many good things. I’m sad my experience wasn’t as great as others. Pros: they have a menu that is «sushi without rice» type vibe; it’s not sushi but dishes that are similar and will please the low carb eaters! I ordered from this menu since I am currently doing Atkins. I ordered the lettuce wraps that had spicy tuna and spicy salmon filling topped with avocado– delicious and would order again. I ordered another fish which was oven baked salmon but the portion was sooooo small, and both were very pricy; the salmon being $ 13 for 4 small bites! Cons: our waiter was super annoying. I can’t remember his name but he was sassy when my dad asked questions about the menu, and would interfere in our conversation every time he came to the table. He was way past the«I’m a great waiter and attentive» vibe, he was just nonstop at our table and interrupting and it was frustrating! I felt like I was out shopping with a needy sales women on commission trying to make the sale; it’s like leave me be so I can enjoy myself please! My cousin and I both ordered the miso soup to start: we both agreed it had a weird taste with some bites but nothing concerning at the time, just unusual– my guess is it was the tofu? We both got extremely sick when we got home and the miso soup was the only thing we ate in common that night so it was clearly that. Dad ordered the Mongolian beef which was good but nothing to write home about. Boyfriend ordered the Una Don which again was not the best he’s had. If I had to choose I would probably not return here as there is better sushi and Chinese cuisine for cheaper prices elsewhere.

This is the best Chinese food in the Northwest suburbs. Hands down. It’s NOT greasy, the breading isn’t thick, the food is fresh and the vegetables they quickly steam, so they still have a crunch, and aren’t soggy. The Honey Walnut Shrimp is our favorite! Yes, the inside is nothing to write home about, and the sushi is very good, not great. But when you’re craving Chinese food, next time order from here! We usually do take out once every other week. YUM!

We decided to give sun shui another try and was pleasantly surprised. The service was much better. This time they were very willing to accommodate special requests and substitutions. The food was good. We will will be ordering again.

We’ve been looking for a good chinese take-out in the area, and we came on Unilocal and Sun Shui had the best reviews. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to our expectations as the food was bland and mediocre. We had ordered the Sesame Chicken, Mushroom with Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, and Fried Rice. There wasn’t one dish that we loved and would go back for. We are disappointed and would probably not go back.

My first experience at this place was fairly good. I arrived at 8PM and was seated promptly by a very kind lady. I think there were only about three other tables occupied in their large dining room. I ordered the Singapore Noodles and received it in what seemed like seconds after I ordered it!(He wasn’t as quick to give me the bill, though.) It tasted amazing and I was excited to come back and try something else! My experience was completely different on my second visit. I met a friend there just after 9. I had looked at the website and verified it was open until 10. Knowing how fast my dish came out on my first visit, I thought we would have plenty of time to eat and get out of there before 10. Boy, was I disappointed. The slippery floor was already being mopped and I before my bottom had time to rest in the chair cushion the server informed me that the kitchen closed at 9:30. I knew exactly what I wanted before I walked in, but my friend had just been given the menu. Seeing the impatience of the server, I gave her my order to put in first. I ordered a Pad Thai Tofu. It’s a staple meal I get whenever I decide to go for some Thai food. When the server brought the huge bowl to the table, I was excited – until I tasted it. It was bland and nothing but soggy noodles. I would have loved some contrasting textures of peanuts, carrots, or sprouts. Instead, it was basically noodles, egg, and large squares of tofu. Had I not felt so rushed by the server, I would have probably asked for something different. My friend got the Pad Thai Chicken. We both left disappointed and went to Steak n Shake afterwards – seeing that neither of us finished our meals because of feeling rushed and tasteless Pad Thai. We left at 9:45 and you would have thought they had been closed for a while. Some lights were turned off, the whole dining area had already been turned for the next day’s lunch service while we ate! Don’t get me wrong, I completely appreciate staff wanting to clean up from the day, prepare for the next, and go relax elsewhere. I was a server at one point in my life, so I get it. If you want to close at 9, close at 9. I might try takeout sometime since the initial food was good. I’m thinking they just gave us tasteless food because they wanted to rush us out. My advise is to not go here past 7PM.

This is our family fav! We drive 30 minutes to get there — would go at least once a week if it were closer! The Crispy Beef is amazing — I get it every time. You can’t go wrong tho — everything is delicious.

We have been looking for a good Chinese food place in the area since our prior favorite, Wing Wah’s, food quality and taste dropped. We had eaten at Sun Shui with family years back and I recalled it being pretty good. Last night we ordered carry-out including, egg rolls, crab rangoon, orange chicken, general tso chicken and pad thai w/chicken. Total came to $ 50, not terrible. We started with the crab rangoon and those were pretty tasty, the sad part is that these were the highlight of our meal. The egg rolls needed more flavor, and after adding a sweet and sour packet to them they ended up in the garbage.(DONOTEATTHESWEETANDSOURPRE-PACKAGEDPACKETS, THEYAREDISGUSTING) We then dug into the entrees, the first few pieces of chicken in both the orange chicken and general tso chicken seemed to be high quality all white meat, but multiple pieces after that we terribly chewy and some couldn’t even be cut with a fork. The flavor was lacking. In fact when we first opened up both these two dishes, we couldn’t tell which was which, even by smell. I opened my pad thai and first noted that it is a very large helping of pad thai, which in the end just took up more space in the garbage. The chicken in the pad thai is very low quality, it’s cut very thin and is very rubbery. I ended up pulling it all out and tossing the chicken first. This dish is very dry, it’s basically just plain thai noodles and only the other toppings add flavor to the dish. We will be continuing our search for a good Chinese food place in the area

I have been to many Mechlin restaurants and have to admit that this is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Chicago land. Their menu and dishes are well prepared and presented. The uniqueness of this restaurant is their sushi menu — fresh, artistically presented, and delicious. Their sushi are comparable to the best sushi in Japan, except at a fractional cost. That’s a secret, don’t tell anyone yet lol.

Ate here for lunch with my friend and it was good, the food was fresh, and I even got to try some sushi. The lunch specials are reasonably price for the amount of food you get. I really enjoyed the ambience and décor. I could see myself eating dinner here with the hubby.

Everytime I have visited the area I get sushi here. The rolls are big. They taste SO good. The Cloudy Dragon and the Philadelphia are my absolute favorite of all time. Most of the time we order To Go which is super convenient, but eating in the restaurant is awesome too. The Koi fish are cool to look at. The service was great and the Chicken Lettuce Wrap appetizers are aaaaaamaaazing. Sad that I don’t actually live in the area because I would come here ALLTHETIME.

Sun shui is nice because you can either order a meal or sushi. The sushi here isn’t what I would call top of the line, but it’s well priced and fresh. The kamikaze roll and Boston roll are our favorites. The egg rolls here are a must. They are filled with pork which isn’t something you see too often anymore. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful in trying new items on their expansive menu. One thing I would like to point out is their king krab is fake crab, but yet their sushi price for rolls including this ingredient may lead you to believe it’s real crab. I will be sure to dine here again.

Although this restaurant is one we drove past for years, it took us a long time to actually go in and try it. We usually went to the Heng Wing in Palatine, Yen Yen in Buffalo Grove or Wing Wah at Rand and Arlington Heights road. Small places with traditional Asian dishes. Their food is good and reasonably priced. Then one day we decided to try Sun Shui. It turned out to be an upscale Asian food place with an incredible selection of sushi. It’s not stuffy or pretentious. The food is as good as any of the other places I mentioned, as reasonably priced as those places, but the restaurant has a classy, open, clean, feel about it. This is more of a place you’d want to take a date versus a family with young children. Not that you can’t bring your family, but it’s not the kind of place where you’re going to see loud, noisy families with kids that can’t keep their food on their plate or in their mouth. You know the family I’m talking about. So if you haven’t tried it, check it out. It’s sure to become your new favorite.

Sun Shui Restaurant employs servers and cashiers who are very professional and respectful. The food is also tasty and has creativity to it. Although, we had hoped it would be food like we get from China Town, unfortunately, that might be hard to get in the suburbs. We ordered Shitake Mushrooms, Mixed Vegetables, and Cashew Nuts. There was something lacking. It seemed a little bland and needed a little bit more flavor to it. Be sure to add soy sauce or salt if needed. I wouldn’t mind coming back here again and trying something different. I’m sure what we ordered were meant to taste that way. Next time around, I will order something that should have a more rich flavor to it.

SIGH… I wanted to like Sun Shui… I REALLY gave it a shot, but unfortunately I found the food mediocre. I’m going to be trying a lot of different Chinese restaurants in the coming months because the one I went to for YEARS is under new ownership and is not good anymore. My BIGGESTPETPEEVE about Chinese restaurants is when they nickel and dime you for sweet and sour sauce. Sun Shui was no different with that concept. It’s not that I’m cheap, but it’s the principal of the idea of getting Chinese and having sweet and sour sauce to go along with it. I don’t know if I’m just spoiled from the joint I went to for years, but they NEVER charged me for sauce. When I asked the hostess for a container of spicy sauce after I paid she gave me ONE and was KIND enough to remind me that next time I’ll be charged for it. Not sure if they’ll be a next time lady… When I got home with our take out the sweet and sour sauce didn’t have that deep rich red look with that sweet apricot taste to it. For being charged for the sauce, I expected better. Egg rolls I found to be not flavorful and with a lot of fillers. There wasn’t a piece of shrimp in my egg roll like my old joint had. The Orange chicken was average and the packaging I found weird with the broccoli placed in a separate compartment. The broccoli looked rich in color/appetizing, but I like my veggies and chicken together when it comes to Chinese. Mongolian beef had a TON of onion with barely any crispy noodles. You had to dig really hard to find those crispy noodles and I can’t stand when Chinese dishes are filled with a TON of onions to cut back. We also ordered chicken fried rice and I hate to say it, but my husband makes a better fried rice from scratch. We won’t be returning back here for Chinese, but as sushi lovers we are open to trying their sushi. The quest for OUTSTANDING Chinese food continues…

The service was really great for takeout, but the food was meh. I ordered hot & sour soup which was decent. I also ordered the shiitake mushroom entrée which was bland and watery… my soup was thicker than the sauce in my entrée. Brown sauces in Chinese food are usually a safe bet, right? :/ I tried this place 4 or 5 years ago and wanted to give it another chance but now I remember why I stayed away.

This place is great. I now only order Chinese from here. The atmosphere is great. It is clean and well-lit. There is a small koi pond in the front, plenty of seating, and a large sushi bar. The serving sizes are just the right size. I have had the General Tso’s chicken(pretty good), Kung Pao chicken(very good), chicken vegetable lo mein(some of the best lo mein I have ever had), and a few different sushi rolls. Not all at the same time, obviously. They also have sake(warm or cold depending on your preference) that goes great with any meal. I would definitely recommend eating at the restaurant(especially if you are getting sushi), but their carryout is also good.
