Ethical and polite, trustworthy and honorable. This is the best auto mechanic that I have ever had, and I have lived in nine different states. I completely trust Jeff and his crew. They are simply the VERY BEST there is!

These guys are really great. Very trustworthy and efficient. Not going to lie, I’m one of those girls that doesn’t know about cars. It’s refreshing to go into a place for an issue with your car, get that issue fixed and not walk out stressed because you’ve been given a laundry list of other things wrong they want you to spend money on.
I’ve been to Jeff’s 3 times and have never felt taken advantage of. These guys know what they’re doing and don’t charge me for anything they don’t need to.

My mom referred me to Jeff’s over a year ago after both Jeff and Claude have taken great care of her Toyota Camry the past few years. I took my Nissan Maxima in for an oil change, and after their superior service and extremely friendly attitudes, I was hooked! I have been coming here ever since. I only wish that I had heard about them sooner. That’s how good they are. They are very versatile and can fix a wide range of auto issues. In regards to my car, they have done oil changes, fixed my brakes & rotors, and repaired my air conditioner. I even had them inspect my car if I ever had a concern about a certain part, or if something just didn’t sound right while driving. Never had an issue with their service! And if a problem was to reappear, I am always assured by them to bring in the car and they will resolve it. They are very professional and provide high-​quality service for a price that is always reasonable. I have been consistently impressed by their service. I wish I every car mechanic was as friendly, professional, and fast as they are! Amazing service by the friendliest mechanics you will ever meet… I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them!

We have been longtime customers of Jeff’s and love how honest and friendly they are. They will go above and beyond to help out customers.
Example 1. It was the middle of January, my husband was out of town for work, and I am at home with a 3 month old infant. Battery dies on my husbands car. Call Jeff’s and explain. Instead of having to shuffle infant, carseats between someone else’s car and have it be a major pain in the butt, Jeff arrives at my house in 10 minutes with a jumper cable and fixes my husbands car without having to bring my infant in the cold.
Example 2. Exclamation point light pops on in dashboard (I call it the «holy crap something’s wrong light») on my way home from work. I pull into their lot 5 minutes before closing time. Jeff comes out and offers to check it over for me. Pulls it in and checks all my tires, engine, oil level, etc. It turned out to be a tire pressure light (phew) but filled all my tires up for me. When I asked to pay, he said no charge.
AMAZING! If all car mechanics ran their business and were as friendly as Jeff and Claude (the other owner) then we would never have to see any Dateline hidden camera shows about Shady people. They are awesome and I feel confident bringing my cars there.

Last week I was given the rare opportunity to drive my wife’s Acura to work. This only happens when that «light thingy» comes on indicating that it’s time for an oil change. For years I’ve taken my cars to Duke of Oil on N.W. Hwy in Mt Prospect with no issues. However, last week I pulled in and they were having computer difficulties and could not perform any services. So I pulled up the ever trusty Unilocal and found that Jeff’s Automotive was on my way home and had several good reviews.
I was very impressed. Kind of old school shop that I like with the added bonus of courteous staff. They took my car in right away and while I waited I listened in on how they dealt with other customers. There was an older lady that needed extensive suspension work on her car. The man at the counter answered all her questions at length and honestly (I have some automotive repair experience). I could tell they cared that this woman knew exactly what they were doing and why. That is a rare find in the auto repair industry.
They knocked out my oil change quickly and. AND… they somehow cleared a very stubborn blown code from a TPI (tire pressure indicator) that I could never clear for more than an hour. Thank you!
Needless to say Jeff’s is now the place for anything automotive!

Jeff’s Automotive has been serving my two vehicles for just over a year. Previously I was going to a chain repair shop, but I was leery of their business practices. Every time I brought my car in for a simple oil change they had a long list of other «recommend» services always totaling several hundred dollars each time.
At Jeff’s neither of my cars have had this problem. When I bring the cars in for an oil change my cars do not suddenly need a bunch of other repairs also. I know I can trust Jeff’s now, so if he does notice something that needs to be done I have no problem having him perform the work. It’s very refreshing to have a auto shop that you can trust. I also like to be able to support an local small business.

Jeff is the most honest mechanic in all of Chicago, in my opinion. usually, other places will take advantage of those that don’t really know anything about cars, but Jeff always explains the options and will perform the job quickly, reliably, and inexpensively. He also has a charming personality and is very professional with everyone. Highly recommended!

My husband and I have had Jeff Probst fix our cars since he first opened Jeff’s Unocal back in the early 1980’s. So we’ve been with him 30+ years. One other reviewer said you would never meet a more honest mechanic and that is absolutely the truth. He tells you what needs to be done to keep your car in good condition, charges a fair price to do the work, and the work has obviously always been done to our satisfaction. If you get to know Jeff, his dad who works for him a few days a week and when he is on vacation, and Claude and the other workers, you will find that they are just top-​notch people and we have enjoyed getting to know them, and their interests outside of their work.

This is the only place I’ll take my car for it’s maintenance. I have yet to have any major problems with my car, but Jeff’s has always taken care of the routine maintenance my car has required. They’re very courteous, quick and highly efficient.
They are very accommodating and very reasonably priced. After my first visit they have since given me 10% off every time I’ve visited regardless of the work I’m having done.

Never met a more honest mechanic. He’s kept both of our 100K+ mile cars in great shape and gives accurate assessments without trying to sell us anything unnecessary repairs. I’d never go anywhere else.

I was referred here by a friend who spoke so highly of the owner/​staff. I have not been disappointed. They are keeping our 100,000mile plus car going. They have been a pleasure to deal on each visit.
