Hair For You

I used to get haircuts done at whatever place was nearby or convenient and never understood why people had a certain stylist they always went to. After getting my haircut with Jeanne, I will NEVER go anywhere else to get my hair cut! Not only is she a funny, efficient, and personable stylist, but she works wonders with my hair! Not to mention her blow outs – which make me feel like a million bucks. I would HIGHLY recommend this salon and Jeanne as a stylist. You will get a warm, friendly, genuine experience and not to mention amazing hair with each visit!

My first experience with Linda at Hair for You was to have a consult for a wig as I was soon to have chemotherapy. Linda was incredible! Empathetic and very respectful of my privacy (she sees you in a separate room for wig consult/​fittings, etc.). Linda was a trusted resource and confidant (I am a very private person) every step of the way from first hair loss and how to manage it, to providing an outstanding selection of night caps (comfy and as attractive as can be expected) as well as hats and other head coverings. Her prices for the wigs are very fair (had been to several other places) and I never felt she was loading me up with products I did not need. She now styles my hair with great patience and precision and is always on the cutting edge (ha, ha) of the latest trends. She’s also great with updos! Hope this is helpful. ABB

I found out that I had breast catsir in January of last year! Actually, December 23^rd when they told me that they had to biopsy a suspicious group of cells… I knew! I went to Hair For You Salon in Arlington Heights, IL. After walking in, I told the girl my situation and she took me to a private room! I told Kristin that I wanted to look normal, and not shockingly different! She tried some on just for the fun, just to see how I would look alllllllll blonde! Made me laugh! Also, tried on a long brunette. I could have had a Kim Kardashian look! But, then she brought in one, it was a little shorter than my hair. I liked it, but the price was crazy! Wasn’t the good color, but I loved the style of this wig it was $ 1,100.00. It was hard for me to even think to pay that much, but then she told me that I’d be wearing it for a year, it made sense. I had to feel good about myself a little bit right? I had lost both of my breast… the one thing that makes you a «woman» to lose your hair on top of it too, ugh! So, after talking it over with my Honey, he really wanted me to be happy to have the $ 1,100.00 wig, so we purchased that one. She matched me up with it, and told me it would be the same color as my hair. Being that it was made out of human hair, they could always color it to match my hair, so I was happy with that!!! Ok, whew… that made me feel better. I still have my real hair on my head, and I knew in a few weeks (from a friend) that I will begin to lose my hair. Sure enough… days went by… every time I’d brush my hair, I had clumps just coming out in my brush. We went back to Hair for You Salon. It was Saturday, March 17^th. We waited… I was having that panicky feeling because I knew I wanted to have my head shaved on this day. They were very busy! Franck and I also had an appointment for getting our taxes done later this afternoon too. A girl takes me in the room, brings in my wig. The color was not good! Linda tried it on me. OMG…IT WAS GRAY LOOKING!!! (The wig was really a different shade of blonde that just was for ME!) I TOLD HER IMMEDIATELY, «I can’t walk out of here with that on my head! She understood that I was not happy! I was ready to just cry my eyes out… I couldn’t smoke anymore, I lost my breast, I’m having this damn chemo now, that is making me lose my hair, and making my body just all messed up… she says to me, «I’m going to take some samples of your hair, and match the wig as best as I can!!» So, she did! She took about 4 – 5 clumps of hair and told Franck and I to come back in 2 hours! I felt bad because they were soooooooooo busy that day, and they special ordered a wig for me but I really needed to leave with a wig that day! I knew I would be bald very soon. We went back 2 hours later… Still not the good color! Now what! I knew I was losing my hair like crazy, and she told me in the next 2 – 3 days I’d be totally bald! I needed to shave my head today, because I wanted my «hair» to end on my terms and not the «catsir’s» terms!!! She then comes in with a totally different wig, and told me that she’s going to shave my head as planned, and she was going to borrow me another wig to wear for the week until the weekend following, so she had more time to try to color my original wig. It looked very good, not my first choice, but to walk around with this wig that Linda (the owner) cut to look like me! I looked in the mirror and it was nice. Much better than having to wear a bandana in public, or a hat (that isn’t me at all!!) I was totally shocked that the owner told me she was going to borrow me a wig for a week until my original wig was 100% perfect!!! She made me feel soooooooooooo much better, you have no idea!!! LOL Franck had to leave soon for our tax appointment. We were smart for going home and driving our own cars back to the salon. Good thing right! In a way, I was glad that he wasn’t there for the shaving part! I didn’t even want to look in the mirror as she shaved my head… I cried… it was just an awful feeling! Linda told me, your whole entire life, you are told how pretty you look when your hair is perfect and your makeup is perfect right!!! (Now my head is shaved) Linda told me, «this is the bottom of the bottom… this is going to be the worst of the worst losing your hair, after this day, it will get better, and you can just climb forward from here!!» I really tried to believe her… I just knew that I was so angry that this was happening to me right now! I’m officially bald, wearing a wig… my hair was gone. I left with my borrowed wig that Linda lent me! I was done crying and felt better that I didn’t have to worry about clumps of hair going all down my shirt. The next weekend Franck and I went back, and waited for Linda to come into the private room. She came in with a wig that was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! Thank you for getting me though that awful time! My hair is now 4 inches long. I’m getting there! XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

I was thrilled moving into the neighborhood and I saw Hair For You just a short drive away. The initial style was great, I loved the look but the stylist I had was less than medicore. Initially, she gave me a crazy look when I wanted to cut a good chunk off of my hair because I was keeping it long for my wedding. She’s like «but I love long hair you should keep it». Well guess what, I’m sick of it and I’m looking for a style in which I can maintain easily. She was not friendly. She had a rude vibe to her almost pompous.
Afterwards, after much thought, I scheduled my next appointment 8 weeks later. I was excited to hear that I wasn’t going to have the previous stylist. Unfortunately hours before my appointment, the salon called saying «oh we wrote you down for the wrong service, can you come in a different day?» I never called back. Bottom line unprofessional, you aren’t a new salon figure out your books.
8 weeks after that, needed a haircut again, and because of convenience I gave Hair for you one last shot. Called to make an appointment and the receptionist told me I would have to call the stylist directly. Sorry, I’m not calling your employees so they can check their schedule. Pretty sure that’s your job. I can say that I’m never going back to Hair For You.

This is in response to Penny. My name is Kristin (manager of Hair For You) and I am writing back to you in response to your comment. I remember exactly who you are and the entire consultation as I spent a great deal of time with you on various visits to the salon.
1. I am not sure who you spoke to when you initially called, but Linda and myself see all of the wig and hairpiece clients, so we are the only two who can really properly answer questions. I, personally would never say that you do not lose hair due to hair extensions. The type of hair extension that you had are very damaging and you most certainly can lose hair from them. That is exactly why we do not perform that service in the salon (bonded extensions) I do believe that i explained that to you in your consultation.
2. When we puts wigs on your head they aren’t going to look perfect right away. We custom size the wigs to fit the shape of your head. We also cut and style the wig on you, after it is properly sized. This explains why you would have one put on, and it would feel tight or not look right as far as style goes.
3. I thought that you were a great candidate for a hairpiece, that is why I suggested one to you. Initially you said you were in to look at wigs, but then we went a different direction because I thought that, in my professional opinion, would be best for you! I felt that you had enough hair to blend with a hairpiece and that would make you feel the most comfortable. It is often comforting to someone going through hairloss to be able to have there own hair showing as well. We really do care and want to help you to make the best decision for you.
4. We looked at the colors together and decided on one to order, as far as a piece goes. As soon as the piece came in I colored it to your specifications. When you initially came in the color was not an exact match so I colored it again for you. I did not charge you a second amount. I would never charge an additional amount for coloring a piece if it wasn’t exactly as you had asked for. I also do not charge 200 $ to color a piece. When you left you loved the color. You said you were very excited and it looked great!
5. We are very reasonably priced and are actually much lower than any of the other wig/​hairpiece salons in the area. We also provide a service that no one else can provide with our extensive knowledge on wigs and hairpieces.
I apologize for any negative feelings you may have gotten from us. I really enjoyed spending time with you and I wish you would have called me and voiced your concerns. Each time you came in i was delighted to see you and thought you were equally delighted to be there. We really do care about our clients and our ultimate goal is always to make you happy and feel great about yourself!:) take care Penny and I wish you all the best:)

Feel very ripped off about my experience here. Called to discuss the fact that I felt my hair was thinning and wondered if it was connected to my extensions. Was told unequivocally no, this couldn’t happen — extensions can’t cause hair loss. In any case, I said, I’d like to come in and try on a couple of wigs. Came in and was told that yes, my hair is thinning and undoubtedly due to my extensions! Krisrten proceeded to put a wig cap on my head and two ridiculous wigs; I looked like Norman Bates’ mother in one. She never measured my head or anything and not only did the selected wigs look ridiculous, they were super tight. She then said no one wants a wig if they don’t need to wear one and I should instead consider a fall. I agreed although it was very expensive. Human hair but as I have learned since, very overpriced for what I got. I agreed to the fall. She proceeded to order the wrong color, a very brassy blonde. She said she could correct it be adding low lights and I’d only have to pay half the standard cost for the dying. The low lights looked ridiculous, like dark brown stripes on brassy blonde. So she said she’d dye it again, no discount this time. This was a dull and strange ashy blonde but I took it. So the hair coloring stanfu increased the price of the piece by $ 200. I ended up taking it to my own salon and spent close to another $ 100 having it corrected. Since then, I have bought very pretty wigs on line for about ¹⁄₁₀^th the cost of what I paid at this place; yes, there are lovely synthetics out there and reasonably priced. In additon, I always felt strange in there, like I was an inconvenience or something. Service was not friendly. So this is my experience and based on it, I cannot recommend this place. I truly feel I was set up and ripped off.
