The yarn selection here is beautiful, in fact it is so abundant it is overwhelming. I’m not sure how very experienced knitters operate, do they already know what they want when they walk in? I didn’t. So, in that case, I was looking for a little guidance from the person working there(presumably the owner). She was nice enough; smiled and nodded, but wasn’t super helpful. Mind you – I was the only person in the store. I would also like to comment on the hours. I work during the week(I don’t know how else I could afford to shop here) and the hours are ridiculous. Only Thursday are they open until 8. Then they had to go down to summer hours – because they just aren’t closed enough. Parking can also be a slight issue – especially if you don’t have a lot of time to run in(due to their closing time) you have to park in a garage around the corner. All in all I am giving 3 stars for the selection and quality – it is wonderful to see and touch the yarn – but as a business, I have to take off 2 stars. Just seems it caters more the the owners hobby than customer service and convenience.

As a younger knitter, I am always looking for great yarns to inspire me. Today I stopped by fuzzy wuzzy yarns and I was not disappointed. 1) for the quality of yarn available, the prices are reasonable. 2) the atmosphere here is great, and they have sit in and knit/crochet times. 3) the owner is so kind and very helpful. 4) there are quite a few classes that are available at a fair price. Overall I would highly recommend this place. I spent a good 30 minutes wandering around gawking at all the pretty yarn. I am posting this review a few months after I initially made it. Some additional information: the«open fuzz» times are on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday evenings. I went to one of the Thursday evening ones and it was a worthwhile experience. The group of women who congregate here are really kind and many of them offer great advice about projects.

When I first started knitting, I purchased my yarns from an independent shop in the small town my college was located. Not only did the store have an amazing variety, but everything was reasonably priced. When I left college, I started buying my yarn from stores like Jo Ann Fabrics — not the best quality yarns, but priced well for someone on a low budget like me. This year, I’m making a bigger effort to shop local and support independent businesses. Fuzzy Wuzzy Yarns was one of my target destinations and possibly the closest yarn shop to where I live. I was definitely pleasantly unprepared for the rainbow of colors when I walked in! Thick, beautiful yarns of every color lined every wall in that building. Several walls had cube shelves that divided the yarns by type and color. On top of that, gorgeous, twisted skeins hung from walls by color. One color faded into the next. I was in yarn heaven. Not only does this place have yarn, but needles and accessories for knitting and crocheting are available here. Beautiful books for sale line one of the walls near a large table that I assume is used for groups, crafting, reading, and whatnot. At the time I was there — on a sunny afternoon — the sun shining through the windows made this little corner of the store a beautiful, peaceful nook. Completed projects are also on display through the store and it gave me the inspiration I needed to experiment with my knitting needles. Curious how much these yarns cost, I checked the price tags of a few of them. My jaw dropped. I knew that it wouldn’t be cheap but I definitely wasn’t expecting $ 12 for 50g of yarn! To make a single scarf, it would cost me a fortune!(50g of a yarn is a little ball.) Of course, the price isn’t standard and it varies depending on the yarn, but there wasn’t nothing budget-friendly and my poor little wallet didn’t want to break yet. If I was a skilled knitter that consistently made good, high-quality pieces(and/or sold them on Etsy), this would be the perfect shop for me. But not for little beginner Laura. Fifth star, gone. The reason for the lack of a fourth star? Aside from a quick glance and«Do you need anything?» my way when I walked in the store, and a brief exchange at the end of my visit, Chris didn’t really make me feel welcomed. I realize she was very focused on helping another customer in the store(which is awesome), but when I’m asking about how to knit finger-less gloves and such, I appreciate someone who doesn’t have their eyes glued on their phone half the time. She did give me her card and a smile as I left, but I still felt a little ‘meh.’ Have you ever felt that way? I want to fall in love with this place. I really do. But, I just can’t. Not right now.

So after having gone for the last year — it’s fair to levy judgement: I adore this shop. I adore the other customers. There is a great blend of teachers — so if one isn’t your style try again :) Is it the cheapest — no, but if you are looking to develop your skills or work with a better grade of materials, you can’t go wrong.(besides life is too short for acrylic all the time) For the suburban knit shoppes it’s my go to, and soon she’d adding Malabrigo, so I won’t have to haul my cookies 30 miles to feed that habit. Thursday night /Saturday Afternoon open knit is a great way to get help when stuck on fiber conundrums. Fuzzy Wuzzy has a real active Ravelry crowd(which is a rarity in the NW burbs). So if you just need to knead some yarn — you should check it out. If you have your heart set on something and you don’t see it — mention it to the shop keep: Chris listens. In the last year I’ve finished more projects– including sweaters, and learning socks. Come check out the hubbub bub — Tell ‘em Xcat sent ya.

After losing my most local yarn shop, I have been looking for a new«home away from home». I can totally imagine Fuzzy Wuzzy being IT. Chris carries beautiful yarns, has a FANTASTIC space with plenty of seating, and has expert knitters and crocheters teaching for her. She would not provide so much ‘hang-out’ space if she had such a poor attitude, as mentioned below. Someone with a bad attitude doesnt want people hanging out in their store. Chris was nothing but delightful to me.

Kind of the best yarn shop EVAR! Ah-mah-zing yarn selection. You can tell every yarn was selected personally and has stood the test of time from even the pickiest of knitters and crocheters. The store itself is bright, large and so inviting. Lots of seats and books and magazines of which you will most likely utilize, because I guarantee you cannot spend less than 1 hour in here! The *only* way it could be better is with a wine/coffee bar. ;) Chris is so sweet and helpful and has been nothing but nice every time my mom and I stop by. She readily picks up needles to show you a technique or bring you a book. We are spreading the word about Fuzzy Wuzzy, people! Get on board and get shopping!

I know nothing about knitting or crocheting, but Fuzzy Wuzzy Yarns is a beautiful shop with a helpful staff. In searching for a Christmas gift for my Mom, who does crochet, we found Fuzzy Wuzzy on Unilocal and thought we’d give it a go. We ended up chatting with the very helpful owner and buying a book and gift certificate. The selection of yarns was amazing, so many lovely textures and beautiful colors, and the class list looks to be pretty comprehensive. This is the kind of shop that inspires; if I lived in the area I’d definitely try my hand at knitting, if only for the colorful yarns!

SKIPIT. I called to find out the store hours, and when she(Chris) answered the phone with an exasperated sigh, I asked if the store was open. «Sort of.» No inflection, no human response, no explanation for this inappropriate answer. She then explained that she would be in for a while, and I could come by. I thought that was a good response. Not so much. When I arrived, explained that as someone who has never knitted before, I had to bring a project to a class I was going to the following day. She looked at my pattern and showed me what I «needed.» HA! She spent the rest of the time berating her son, who was not working to her satisfaction, and she had to talk about him to us as we waited, looking uncomfortable. She sold me,(because I didn’t know any better), extremely expensive yarn AND needles. When I arrived at class with the Rolls Royce of expensive circular needles,(THE most expensive available), and painfullly expensive yarn, my knitting teacher gasped. She asked«who did this to you?! You told her you are new to knitting? I feel like you were taken advantage of.» I explained where I went. Five knitters in my class nodded knowingly, and we exchange stories all the time. Chris is abrasive, at best, and just looks overwhelmed by people walking in to her store. I like their spot, and their pricey inventory, but I just hate working with her. Unfortunately, she is impossible to avoid, and her attitude is horrible. I’m told her classes are just a waste of money, and that she treats people like they are stupid for not knowing how to do what she already does. St. John’s Wort, Chris! Look into it.

A beautiful store with an amazing selection of yarns including a a beautiful wall FULL of Cascade 220. The owner, Chris, is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. She’s helped my knitting tremendously. A great selection of classes and projects for all skill levels.
