Always on point for us. Ken is awesome(the owner). We love the Japanese chef also who works there. not Japan quality but you pay for what you get. We usually sit at the sushi bar and definitely call in ahead to book it. What to order: Spicy scallop sushi Uni ikura handroll Any toro a must Their tuna is on point Hamachi toro Salmon Aji(two piece order gets you a deep fried bones that pairs nice with a beer or sake) Ankimo Most fish are fresh and safe. Get your sushi on!

First time here and I’m sold. Sat at the sushi bar and the chef was awesome, really nice guy who had a great sense of humor, and made even better sushi. The staff was all very helpful, I was seated quickly on a Friday night, and they have the Clipper game on one tv with the Laker game on the other. Food was solid, and it surpassed my expectations. Prices are slightly high but in no way shocking, and the quality is there. The menu is all on an iPad which is really convenient, the space is clean and well lit, and there is quite a bit of standard table seating aside from the sushi bar. I’ll definitely be coming back.

I didn’t respect how decent this restaurant could be… I was so wronggggg! The quality is so good and various chooses of the menu must satisfy you. I really recommend this restaurant. I felt so satisfied after the meal and I’m gonna go there at least three times a month!!! Love it!!!

Venue: This was one of those places that I’ve walked by a hundred times & never got curious because it looked so small & plain from the outside.(The only reason I ended up going here was because I saw the check-in deal.) We were totally surprised when we finally entered because it’s so much bigger & nicer than we thought. The interior has a deep blue ocean feel to it & there’s a nice view of the sushi bar. It was also dim lit, which I like. Service: Excellent. I don’t usually have success when ordering my hot water + lemon, but these servers got it right every time & we never had to ask for refill. They were also nice enough to accommodate us by flipping the channel to NBA. Heheh Food: Not bad at all. Don’t forget to take advantage of the check in!

We sat at the sushi bar and had a great experience! The selections provided were fresh and varied: akamutsu, various toros, oyster uni shooters, lobster pasta and some others deliciousness. The sushi chefs were cordial and accommodating. All around great experience.

Best combination of cooked seafood and sushi place I’ve ever been too. Took my daughter and got the vegetable tempura, salmon sushi, pork katsu, and california rolls. Just totally amazing. Ken the head chef is an incredible talent! Can’t say enough good things about the place especially with such great prices for the quantity and quality.

Located across from Din Tai Fung. Parking is very tight in this plaza, but there’s parking next door and parking across the street too. Salmon Teriyaki — I love the dressing on the lettuce. The salmon was crispy, which adds a nice touch. Chirashi Bowl — Friend really loved the sashimi. I’d say this is a better deal than the sashimi deluxe because it’s 10 dollars less and you get everything except the sweet shrimp and uni. Sashimi Deluxe — Just get the chirashi bowl. This may look like more because it’s placed on a bigger plate, but it really doesn’t have much more than the chirashi bowl. Don’t let the plate size fool you. Check in for free miso soup!

One of my local go to places. I’ve even done take out before, however unless they provide me ice packs I would be weary to do so. Fish quality is very good. Plenty of space to park a baby stroller too for those families with little ones.

I love this place! My boyfriend and I come here frequently. The chefs know us and treat us very nicely. Their sushi has only gotten better ever since the first time I’ve gone there. I love their salmon and negi hama cut rolls. =) I always get black sesame ice cream as dessert too.

This is my second visit here and having mentioned what was lacking from my first visit, I was so impressed by the improvement that was made to the food per my suggestions. It tasted infinitely better and as always, the servers were attentive even though it seemed like a fairly busy night. I initially took off a star because the tempura udon I ordered had water for soup instead of actual soup base, which made it unimpressively bland. I had to find ways to spruce it up myself, but this time around, soup base was used for the tempura udon and it had plenty of flavor, as it should be. I added an egg in there, which was the cherry on top for that meal. The beef tongue was delightful and chewy just like before, and tastes best with a spritz of lemon on top. I really appreciate the time and effort put in to make the experience better for their customers. This makes all the difference in the world with the impression of the entire food menu, since the sashimi is already so impressive. I will definitely be back. Thank you, Ken.

This review is long overdue for my buddy Ken. I was introduced to Opus by a mutual friend when the place first opened October of 2012. By all accounts, I would have given them 3.5 — 4 stars back then. Not for a lack of food quality or taste, but everything just wasn’t polished. Things weren’t consistent, sometimes service was slow and unattentive. However, it has been 3 years since and Ken along with his staff and wife Arrie, have definitely raised the bar. A SOLID5STARS. I would say their omakase is on pair or surpasses some of the best sushi joints on the Westside. Everything is fresh and prices reasonable(from a comparative stand point on what you get). I’m here nearly 3−4x times per month and the amount of regulars I see, speaks for itself. We’re like a little family and Ken always strives to innovate with his food and dishes. Place your trust in him and you will be rewarded. Enough words from me — I’ll let the pictures do the talking this time.

It’s a nice little hidden gem inside a busy Arcadia plaza filled with typical Chinese restaurants and shops. The prices are on par with other Japanese sushi restaurants but the portions here are pretty generous and the food is good. They also serve things a little differently, like the Spanish mackerel(Aji) which comes with a whole fish sliced up next to the fish pieces. After you finish the sashimi, they take what’s left of the fish and fry it up so you can eat the bones and remnants like a fish flavored crunchy snack. The wasabi here is also different. It’s got a little more richness to it than the typical horse radish paste served at the cheaper places. The way it crumbles into the soy sauce makes it almost look like the real thing… which it isn’t, but still, it does taste better than most fake wasabi served elsewhere. I came here twice and while some things are not consistent such as the amaebi(sweet raw shrimp), the fish has always been impeccably fresh and delicious. I’ve had a few of the standards and favorites: Hamachi(yellowtail) — big fatty chunks of awesome, served on a bowl of crunch ice Spicy tuna roll — typical, nothing out of the ordinary, as expected Spicy salmon roll — this is flavorful and rich without some of the greasiness or slime that may accompany lesser salmon servings Oyster on a half shell — served with ponzu, roe, and green onions, addictive Chirashi — nice selections on a bed of rice, too filling for 1 person Amaebi — nice big raw shrimp with heads either fried or made into a soup Sausage — delicious with a dollop of spicy mustard Spanish mackerel — I love this fish, very tender with a subtle briny hint Prices are average and we always end up at around $ 50 – 60 per person and we have no complaints about how full we are. Parking in the plaza can be tough and don’t expect to find much street side parking either. You have to get lucky or just circle around a few times.

We ordered: Ankimo– monkfish liver in ponzu sauce. Tasted fresh and not in a bad fishy way at all. Didn’t like the seaweed in there too much. It was too vinegary. Uni Pasta– they generously give about 3 – 4 pieces of uni unlike some places that only give one. I liked how they have scallops and mushrooms in there for some variety. Assorted Sashimi Salad– very fresh, loved this entrée the best of course. Caterpillar Roll and Dynamite Roll– both good and fulfilling. I will def be back to try more things. I think this place is worth it if you do Omakase. The lunch specials(Tuesday-Sunday 11:30 am– 2:30 pm) are a good deal as well.

Came here without much of an appetite after already really eating dinner. Was just in the area and had Opus bookmarked for a while. So I just ordered the seared salmon toro and spicy albacore cut roll. The albacore wasn’t very spicy honestly. The toro was pretty fatty. Good! Sushi chef was very friendly and had a good sense of humor. I didn’t catch his name though. There’s other dishes I would like to try here. Next time… Oh place is a bit tucked back off the street. Location is on the West side of Baldwin.

Came here with my boyfriend and his parents. They said that they have been dining with Ken for many years now and were excited about me trying the food. We had omakase, which I always enjoy and love to see what the chef will serve. This did not disappoint. We started off the ankimo– which is always my favorite way to start. Next was a salad with, I want to say seabass but I can’t exactly remember. I don’t quite remember the order of what came– I wish I took pictures because they were all so beautiful! Every single thing that came out was really meticulously put together, and Ken the chef was really nice. I really liked the experience, because I have been to places where the food is good but the chef is not nice at all. This was not the case– good food and good chef which makes the experience so much better. My favorite dishes were the seared wagyu nigiri, seared red snapper nigiri, ikura, uni oyster. Ahh I like them all! Everything was really fresh. I would highly recommend this place. It is rare to find a place with good food And good service.

I can only give this place one star. It is nicely decorated and that’s where it ends. The server didn’t understand much English and wasn’t particularly attentive. I ordered the Philadelphia roll which was really bad like there was no effort put into making it taste great. It had rice that didn’t taste fresh, a chunk of cream cheese, salmon that wasn’t pink and fresh, and nothing else!!! My favorites are when they add avocado or asparagus. The spicy tuna salad is the worst I’ve ever had! The greens seemed like they were wilted and rotting I couldn’t even eat it. The eel avocado roll had bad old looking avocado same poor quality of produce as the salad. I will never come back as it was expensive. I’ve had better sushi from Ralph’s!!!

We come here for lunch every Saturday. You cannot beat Opus top quality sushi and friendly service. My husband’s fave is the deluxe chirashi bowl. I love the uni ikura bowl. The deluxe sushi lunch is also awesome. When not in mood for sushi I go for the hamachi kama. They also offer wagyu beef 宮崎和牛. Yet to try it some day!

A viable sushi option in the area. We shared the deluxe chirashi plus side orders of a salmon skin and salmon hand roll. The deluxe chirashi had the usual combination of fish and the fish itself were very fresh and delicious. What I didn’t really care for was the rice or the wasabi. The rice was a very nice portion but it didn’t have enough of the vinegar taste that I prefer. In terms of wasabi, I wasn’t expecting it freshly grated but it looked very unappealing. The fried shrimp head came at the end. For $ 5, I would get the salmon skin hand roll again. It was a generous portion and pretty good. I would come back if I were craving sushi and in the area.
