More like a 3.5 stars, but I’ll round up because my family likes coming here. We’ve tried a ton of dishes, but our favorites are the seaweed fried fish, spicy fish, beef rolls, rice cake, and lamb with green onion. Most of their soups are pretty good as well. We’ve tried their green onion pancake and beef stew noodle before, but these were just alright, since this isn’t a Taiwanese place — Chang’s specializes in Shanghainese food, so it’s a bit different. Nonetheless, the food is pretty tasty and the service surprisingly isn’t bad! They also have big tables and one time, they even gave us our own little dining room, since our party was so huge! Definitely worth checking out, if Din Tai Fung is too crowded(which it pretty much always is!).

The food here is really good and the service even better. Good and friendly service in authentic Chinese restaurants does not come by everyday, so it’s worth mentioning in my book. Their seafood noodles and onion pancakes are my favorite. Will be back to try out more items.

Chang’s Garden has the best Shanghainese food in the SVG and great service to boot. Admittedly, the fact that I speak the local dialect probably helps, but still… I’ve been here with my family numerous times. We even«rented out» the back room for my son’s 100 day birthday party. There is not a dish here that disappoints. For our past visit we ordered the Shanghai short ribs, beef with onions, shredded pork chow mein, and green onion pancakes. If you want absolutely delicious, flavorful, hit-the-spot authentic Chinese food, this is it. Everything just tastes so fresh. Even the dishes that are pan-fried, you don’t taste any heaviness of the oil. The meat is so tender and finely prepared it practically melts in your mouth. There is a sweetness to a lot of dishes here which Shanghainese food is known for but they don’t overdo it. I love it! The waitresses are so friendly and attentive. They brought over plastic bowls, utensils and a booster seat for our toddler without us even asking. They checked up on us. They refilled our drinks. They actually came by and tried to play with our kids. They even packed us extra rice to go with our leftovers. This is not the cheapest Chinese restaurant around but in my opinion, worth the money. It’s clean, it’s classy, you get what you pay for.

Very interesting did mayonnaise and pineapple and shrimp. Also a big meatball that had some spice like black salt perhaps. Good value for lunch special.

Despite single serving prices, it’s all family style. The beef noodle was so great. General tsao’s was probably one of the worst we’ve ever had. Beef rolls were a bit weak on the sauce so on the dry side… Chicken noodle soup was bland. Would go back for the spicy beef soup but i’m glad we found this place!

Food: 4⁄5 Service: 4⁄5 Ambience: 4⁄5 Overall: 4⁄5 I have been coming here with my family for years because they serve some decent Shanghainese food. My favorites here are the green onion pancake(seriously though, I haven’t yet found a place that makes it better than they do!) and their 8 flavor rice cake dessert. Everything else is good, but doesn’t particularly stand out to me. Service is good too, but not outstanding either. They’re also particularly nice to us since we’re such old customers, so I wonder if they treat other people similarly. However, it’s still pretty good service for an Asian restaurant. This place is a pretty good size, and it never feels quite that crowded even when they are busy. I really like the booth seats, and everything is well lit. But nothing super special about the décor. Would recommend this place for good Shanghainese food in the immediate area. I will probably come here for more years to come haha.

Chang’s garden is a Southern Chinese food restaurant and it is one of the best in the area. A lot of authentic dishes including sweet and sour pork, «Wuxi» pork, «Crystal Shrimp», and«Yan duo» soup. If you like Shanghainese/Hangzhou food, you need to try Chang’s garden.

Ate here a while back and I liked it. The food is pretty good. Had the seaweed fried fish and some shrimp. I would go back to try more dishes if I’m in the area.

This place is located across from the medical plaza where I work so its really convenient for me to go grab lunch here. It shares the same plaza with Arcadia Supermarket(+Yogurtland & Sinbala). The food was surprisingly flavorful and delicious here. I thought it would be like any other Chinese restaurant in the area but honestly its actually very good and its definitely somewhere I would recommend to friends. A great alternative to Tasty Garden if you’re looking for somewhere new but not too incredibly different. We got the kung pao chicken, green beans, stir fried rice cake, and the seaweed fried fish. Everything came out fresh and hot and super yummy. The stir fried rice cake is my favorite and I always order this. Its chewy and tasty and just so good! The seaweed fried fish was new to me, and I know a lot of people love it(its my coworker’s absolute faaavorite) but personally I don’t love deep fried things very much and I didn’t want to eat more than a couple pieces. Its a very interesting dish and it smelled fantastic but if it were up to me, I wouldn’t order this again, plus it was the most expensive thing we got and I didn’t think it was worth the price. Overall the total for 5 people ordering these 4 dishes and a couple sodas(+complimentary sour & spicy soup, rice, and tea) for lunch was about $ 60 including tip and tax. There was enough food that we were even able to take leftovers home. The parking situation in this plaza is notorious for being absolutely horrific. Not that its particularly HARD to find a spot since the parking lot is fairly large but seriously WATCHOUT for the other drivers because people drive like freaking maniacs here.

This restaurant would probably have received 2 or 2.5 stars in China, Hong Kong or Taiwan but its food is decent and consistent if you are looking for a restaurant to have a family meal or a meal to eat something that you don’t normally cook at home. It’s not expensive. Six dishes would cost you in the $ 90 range. Here are the items I usually order: * Cat fish with garlic sauce and spicy tofu; * Squash with crab meat; * Pork wrapped in lotus leaves; * Sautéed shrimps; * Spicy chicken; * Sea cucumber with brown sauce; * Dong po pork meat. They do take out as well if you don’t want to wait during the weekend meal hours.

The trick to this restaurant is to come during Lunch. If you can’t make it then forget it! Dinner menu is extremely pricey for the same crap(larger portions) and they don’t even give you soup! «Why yew no give me sooop when I paya more!!» If you come for lunch like I do the price is a lot cheaper. The three dishes that I always get which really complements each others are: Stir fried string beans: this dish is really good because they cook it with a wok and the chef doesn’t over cook it. Therefore the string beans come out firm and flavorful. spicy water boiled beef: This is always a must get. It’s famous for giving you a numbing spicy feeling in your mouth. You’re sweating but you can’t stop eating because your brain is releasing so much damn endorphin… might as well smoke some crack instead right? The 3rd dish: is Shang Hai Spare ribs. This dish is sweet and crunchy, which really compliments the spicyness of the beef. If you get these 3 dish during lunch time I guarantee that you won’t walk out mad. Oh yea they also give free rice and soup during lunch. What is there not to like? Another reason why I give it 5 stars instead of 4 is because this place doesn’t have a line, and the food quality is good. I’ve also never experienced bad service here during lunch time.

One of the best Shanghai /Hangzhou restaurant around in the SGV. Some of my favorites are their lotus leaves wrapped pork ribs, fish soup, seaweed battered fish, Glutinous Rice Dumplings in Osmanthus Sweet Broth, and my latest fav — taro pudding with red beans paste. Yep, they are very good and wonderful for a family meal. It is important to know, however, what to order from these places as they are authentic and good only for those few items that are their specialties and signatures.

I am so angry with this restaurant. The price is crazy and the food sucks! I hate my husband, If he doesn’t insist to take me here for Chinese non spicy food, I swear to god I won’t come here! Last time we spent $ 25+ for a sour fish, only 1 pond fish! But this time he came again just wants to try something different. He thought maybe it will make a difference. OMG! The veggie dish $ 11, bad flavor, the cold duck only few piece $ 11, the noodle(is that soft powder?) tastes like some tissue paper!!! The worst Chinese restaurant ever! Don’t waste your money, just pick any other restaurant if you don’t want crazy price and bad food quality.

This shanghai /hangzhou restaurant is quite good. I would get the usual fare like shanghai pork ribs, rice wrapped in leaves, seaweed battered fish and XLB. This place isn’t a destination, a lot of locals come here(you’ll see young, families, old people come here). I’d come here if you’re looking for a low key restaurant that serves solid food. Famous for: shanghai /hangzhou food

Service was slow. Many people were served before us even though we were there first. Waitress didnt think we’d like what we had picked from the menu so she talked us into getting something else. Food was good, not sure what numbers they were from the menu. Noodles and chicken in a hot sauce. Decently priced.

Been here a couple times with the boyfriend’s family. To be honest, I rarely eat Chinese food so this review is coming from someone with very little experience in earing Chinese food. The times I’ve been there the staff was attentive. Not really friendly, but that’s probably because I don’t speak Chinese. Thankfully we’ve always had my boyfriend’s mom there to order for us and communicate our needs to the waitresses. The food has always been good. I mean, I don’t have much to compare, but I always leave the restaurant full and content! The fish fried in batter with seaweed is delicious!

Meetup, schmeetup. Fun times. Came late to see everyone else already seated and ready to order; got separated by my buddy, John T. but we both had a great time with the whole group. Always nice to have people who speak the language so they can order for you. Jelly fish(4 stars) — Au89 always tells me jelly fish made by him or his mom tastes so good but mine always come out too blech. Seeing the good reviews for this prompted me to order the appetizer. Unfortunately I’m the only fan on our table. It was great, with a hint of green onions, sesame oil and maybe sugar for a bit of sweetness. Beef rolls(4 stars) — Wow. Really good! I only gave 4 stars though because it’s pretty sparse inside. The roll looks big and the wrap is pretty thin but if you flatten the whole thing, it’ll shrink from 2 inches to ½ inch in thickness. Xia Long Bao(4 stars) — Juicy, good flavor, wrap to meat ratio is good. Fried eggplant(3 stars) — The flavor is okay, a bit on the mushy, and the presentation … Well. Let’s say I expected it to come out like a flattened whole eggplant and not a whole pile of mushy dark looking stuff. Fried rice(2 stars) — Not too much egg in it, nor meat, nor seasoning. Sauteed spinach(2 stars) — Bland. Parking was okay. It’s in a shopping area and at 7:30PM on a friday night, I was able to find parking pretty fast. As for service, I didn’t really pay much attention since I wasn’t the one ordering. Will I come back here? 90% not.

Maybe it’s just me … but all things considered, the menu pricing at Chang’s Garden appears to be surprisingly on the high side for a Chinese restaurant. Some might simply write this off as merely a byproduct of the relatively high median income of Arcadians, but Tasty Garden is right across the street, and the average pricing of dishes on their menu seems to be on the lower side. In any case, pricing aside, Chang’s Garden is not a bad place to dine at. The level of customer service here seems to be above-average for a Chinese restaurant, and the food tastes great. I am particularly fond of their jellyfish, green onion pancakes, Shanghai rice cakes, Shanghai spare ribs, and pineapple shrimp with mayonnaise. The parking lot seems to be chronically packed, so consider yourself lucky if you are able to find a free spot without having to circle around repeatedly like a vulture looking for carrion. Sometimes the parking situation is so bad I just say«f*** it», and look for somewhere else to eat.

I recently came across this restaurant when I had a meeting and my boss was slurping away on a bowl of cabbage and been thread noodles. At the end of the meeting, I had to find out what was it that he was eating that looked and smell so good. It was the Lamb with Sour Cabbage Warm Pot was what I was told. At first I was very disappointed because I do not eat lamb but I found out that you can substitute the lamb for pork. Couple days later, I was determined to try this place for the first time. To my amaze, the Pork with Sour Cabbage Warm pot came in 2 tall soup containers. They were nice enough to throw in a whole tray of white rice too! Most places will at least charge you $ 2 for the amount of rice it came in. Since my last initial try of this place, I just ordered to go from this place again today with a bunch of co-workers. They have lots of lunch specials to choose from and the portions are definitely big. The 5 of us ordered 4 items: Pork with Sour Cabbage Warm Pot, Ma-Pao Bean Curd, General Tao’s Chicken and Fish Filet with Vegetables. Everything was on point and everything was delicious. I can’t wait to order from this place next week! They have over 200 different dishes and I can’t wait to try them all. I’ve made a point to order this every Thursday with my co-workers so we can try everything!!!
