A favorite place for dinner. The crispy kale salad is delicious. The tuna pizza is so good. Trust me. It’s thin sliced tuna on a thin, almost cracker-like«pizza» crust with avocado and micro greens on top. Burger and the salmon are also notably good. My only wish is for them to be open for lunch in the off-season(i know, it’s a big ask). Great wine/beer/alcohol selection. Lots of local wines and produce.

If I could give this zero stars I would… Christmas garland still on the railing… smell of sewage as you park and the view of trash in the«courtyard»… Not to mention that the bartender is also the waiter and bus boy… maybe even the chef. and not even pleasant!

Everything that we ordered was delicious –fresh and bright tasting with imaginative flavor pairings. The small plate concept was taken to a bit of an extreme with the white gazpacho which could’ve benefitted from another ladle-ful. I would serve the hanger steak on a ceramic plate instead of stainless steel. Who likes to eat on metal? The room is attractive enough tho’ the sound level escalated as the place filled up. The service was stellar –a charming attentive and knowledgeable waitress couldn’t have been better. Will definitely be back(and will sit out back which looked lovely).

This was our first visit and I doubt we return. Loved the ambiance of the old home turned bistro. Excellent wine selection, I enjoyed a nice Sauvignon Blanc from Spain. The food was inconsistent as best. While I enjoyed the lamb meatballs in a sweet tomato broth with ricotta, my husbands fennel salad was not stellar. For the main course, I choose the roasted cauliflower pasta with pine nuts, buttered bread crumbs and cheese. I was very disappointed at both the serving size, maybe a level cup of pasta and the lack of flavor and taste. I make this dish at home and boy they could learn a few things from me. My hubby had the hangar steak which was cooked perfectly, served with chimichuri sauce, excellent and truffle fries, yummy. For dessert, the I chose the strawberry rhubarb crumble, very gummy with a scoop of tasty vanilla gelato. My hubby head the baked Alaska, awesome! With so many wonderful restaurant choices out there, doubt we return.

There is nothing that Chef Tom touches that seems to ever go wrong. This place is a little oasis on the North Fork. The wine and food selections are excellent, the menu changes quite often. Service is A+ all the time. If you’re ever down island and want to treat yourself to a great meal try his restaurant off Route 110 called Jewel, it certainly is s gem!

Excellent experience. I would highly recommend the Tuna Pizza and the Grilled Oysters. It is a quaint place in a historic house, right on Main Road. Service was good, friendly and well paced. Our table had the Tuna Pizza, Pork Belly and Duck Breast. All 3 were amazing.

Every January we take a trip to the North Fork to indulge in wine, fine cuisine and shopping at the outlets. While not all of the wineries are open in January, it’s one of the best times of year to visit the North Fork as there are no crowds. In pursuit of trying a new restaurant(went to Farm Country Kitchen last year and it was fabulous), we went to The Petulant Wino on a recommendation from a fellow Unilocaler we had met at One Woman Wines and Vineyard in Southold. We had called around 6p same day for an 8p reservation, and to our luck and delight there had been only one cancellation that night for the exact time. The Petulant Wino sits unassumingly on Route 25 in Aquebogue, and is a place you certainly do not want to drive by. There is such charm and coziness to the atmosphere — perfect after a long day of vineyard touring. The menu consists of mostly small plates for sharing, which is definitely our style. We selected 5 items: Pickled Butternut Squash, Garlic Soup with Grilled Cheese, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Hanger Steak and Braised Beef Cheek Ravioli. Everything was absolutely delicious — and I don’t want to pick favorites — but, if I had to choose one the Soup and Grilled Cheese was so so so tasty. The squash salad was very fresh, all of the meat was cooked to perfection, and the ravioli melted in our mouths. We wanted dessert very badly, but sadly could not fit one more thing in our bellies after indulging in the above. To boot — the service was fantastic. For a busy Saturday night we were consistently paid attention to, our silverware frequently swapped, and the food came out one item at a time so we could fully enjoy each. And of course a great wine selection where you could choose to have a taste, half glass, or full glass depending on your liking. Overall highly recommend and hope to come back!

The appetizers and drinks were great. The entrees were disgusting. Desert wasn’t good at all. Wouldn’t recommend this place.

You want petulant? I walked into a charming looking restaurant and asked them to charge my iPhone. :D After a day of shopping, I went to my favorite Jamesport pizza place that shall not be named. 45 minute wait? At the end of October? Really? My back up place(Where I was just at drinking a hard cider…) is The Petulant Wino. Walking into this restaurant personifies the everything on the Long Island east end. A small bar is to the left when you walk in, to the right is the dining area. We’re seated and see the wine list, a few nice Long Island wine choices. Its enjoyable to be out east and have a glass of Long Island wine with my meal. This was a late lunch(Lupper?) and ordered a burger and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. We’re sitting and enjoying our wine with local folks. All is good with the world. My burger? Spot on. Caramelized onions with homemade potato salad and sweet-sour pickle chips. Mmm mm! The meat was a little, meaty. It needed some fat & seasoning in MHO but still a well crafted burger with its homemade brioche bun and aioli topping. Our waitress comes over and says dessert? I’m kinda packed but then she starts talking about pecan pie with Jack Daniels sauce and gelato? Sock it to me baby! Man, that was a kick ass brownie! Did you see I said brownie? It wasn’t a piece of pecan pie at all. I mean you can call it pie but it wasn’t pie. Its like someone made a wrong turn in albuquerque. Regardless it was still chocolaty, creamy and dreamy. Support local east end businesses, come for dinner or a glass of wine. There is great food and Long Island wines to be had at The Petulant Wino

Came back after not being here for a while and wow — this place got even better! Had the most delicious dinner of Papardelle with shrimp and andouille sausage. Others with me loved theirs too. All-Star team of servers — especially Wes who was very friendly and professional. It was really packed when we arrived but we were seated on time and had a lot of fun. Great place.

This is my favorite restaurant on Long Island. My summer wouldn’t be complete without having dinner at the Petulant Wino. Every dinner me and my boyfriend start with the meat and cheese plate that we honestly can never get enough of. Then our entrée’s change but I have yet to have an item on the menu that wasn’t amazing. The octopus was cooked perfectly and I couldn’t stop eating it. I loved the beet salad and was in awe at how amazing the burger was. I’ve gotten a few of the lamb and duck dishes as well and my mouth waters just thinking about them. Atmosphere is always amazing and you are bound to enjoy every single bite and sip from beginning to end. If you want a beautiful night out with friends or even a casual romantic dinner with that someone special you need to go here. My friend lives in Florida and when she visits we ALWAYS come here. Perfection doesn’t even begin to explain the Petulant Wino.

Excellent little spot in Aquebogue. I’ve had this one bookmarked for quite awhile. The menu is setup for small plate ordering with the exception of a couple ‘share’ items at the bottom. Overall we enjoyed everything ordered. Few things that stood out the most: — Togarashi Seared Tuna(very good, cant see myself not ordering it again on next visit) — Fresh Rigatoni with spicey meat sauce — Corn(forget what they called it, basically Mexican street corn and it was fantastic) — Fig cake(deserves all the praise it gets. definitely worth trying for fig lovers) — Strawberry crumb cup(this was part of a sampler, this cup was my favorite) Service was great. Would definitely recommend this place to friends.

What does it mean to be petulant? Our friend Webster defines it as «having or showing the attitude of people who become angry and annoyed when they do not get what they want». Hmm. So, sassy spoiled wine lover? Well then! I knew I’d like this place when I heard a coworker utter the name. Who could resist a little sass in their dining experience. From the walls adored with quirky wine loving signs to the creativity of the plates, the petulant wino exuded the right kind of attitude for me. The historic building and cute name may catch your eye when driving down the road. Still, its easy to pass, unless of course you’re stopping at the cider mill next door to stock up on some treats. Have a glass of local wine or bubbly and peruse the menu. It’s tantalizing, creative and changes up every so often. The tuna pizza was more than just a strip mall sushi standard, while the papardelle with lobster is a definitely a must try. The item that keeps me returning is the warm fig cake with hazelnut gelato. Oh Oh, you mean fig BLISS with a hazelnut cloud of deliciousness? That’s right — it was amazing. My only regret was having to share.

Came here for a friend’s bachelorette party and it was lovely!!! We ordered from a Prix fix menu which offered a nice variety of options. The spinach salad was fresh and tasty. I was hesitant at first with the idea of pairing strawberry with avocado, but the flavors worked beautifully together, as well as with the refreshing rosé I had ordered. I would absolutely recommend the lobster pappardelle because it’s delicious. But, my only complaint is that each of us who had ordered it felt we weren’t given enough noodles. We ended up still feeling a little hungry afterwards, but luckily, those who had ordered the black Angus burger felt just the opposite and shared slices of it with us(also, beyond tasty, perfectly cooked and juicy!). Service was good, though maybe a little slow. But, we were a large group(20) after all, so I’m sure they were doing their very best. The restaurant itself is adorable, kind of like visiting your sweet old aunt’s house who has a penchant for antiques, and with a really relaxed and inviting bar area. I will definitely be coming back!!!

More like 3.5 stars… geeze if you just go for the tomato capaccio you will be in heaven! Awesome dish… Duck Rilette was ok, little dry. Tomato Carpaccio was awesome… Tuna pizza was not a fave, my friend really liked it, me not so much. Dough was heavy and a little under cooked. Aioli was awesome! Papparadelle with Lobster my friend loved, it was ok for me. Not a huge lobster fan so my opinion could be a bit jaded. Got the duck taco, although good, a little dry like the rilette and it didn’t pop like I was hoping. Overall nice time, service was spot on, would go back again, even if just for the tomato carpaccio…

A beautiful Saturday meant a day for a drive out east, and time for a birthday lunch for hubs. After bookmarking this place sometime ago, and finally seeing ourselves going out to enjoy the sunshine, this place seemed perfect — And it was! Located perfectly at the what some would call the beginning of the NOFO wine Trail on Rt. 25, Petulant Wino is located BEFORE the first winery.(always good to eat before a day of drinking!!). Its an old house, and well the entry way could use a sign,(even if it was just WELCOME) because I know we walked right past the front door and what turned out to be our waiter had to say, This way please… Once inside, we were seated at a cute little table in a bright sunny room and viewed the wine list(beautiful selection) and browsed the menu… I drooled looking at everything! This is where I will note that I ordered a glass of Chardonnay and hubs ordered a Long Ireland beer — I guess the waiter KNEW I was going to order the burger(we did NOT place our food order yet) since what I received was a glass of MERLOT. I even POINTED on the menu what glass of wine I wanted! However, since I was going to order the burger, I was not going to make a big deal about it and let it ruin my mood or day. It was not a dealbreaker, but it is worth mentioning! The oyster prices might be pricey, but the oysters I had were the BIGGEST i have ever seen and were delicious. Hubs had the scallop crudo and almost licked the plate clean! Then, what happened was magical — YEP — I have found the BEST bigger on this island — YEP… Right here. Served with bacon, and cheddar cheese, with the usual pickles(housemade) and lettuce, and GORGEOUS tomatoes and black truffle aioli, this burger screamed EATMENOW when it was presented to me. I ate every last bite of it!(Take a look at the pictures I put up — drool) …and you know what — That Merlot went PERFECTLY with the burger! We couldn’t think of eating anything else and now filled with food, it was time to hit our favorite wineries and enjoy the sunshine. 4 stars — due to lack of welcome sign and the wine mix-up. I hope to me back to upgrade my review to all 5 stars!

This is my first review on Unilocal… I stopped into this little gem of a restaurant after living a block from it and never stopping in. Glad I did. The chef, Lenny is a very creative solid fellow. On top of being creative, he «gets» hospitality. I could have ordered just about anything on the menu but, decided to try the Grilled Octopus and the veal sausage that is made on premise. The octopus was tender yet perfectly charred and the chorizo and potato accompanied the dish nicely. Words couldn’t ever do the veal sausage justice so, I will just say, ORDERIT… it won’t disappoint. Unreal. Thanks again for a great meal! –Andrew

Great Food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere! The Petulant Wino provides 5-star cuisine in a casual and non-pretentious atmosphere. The menu is mostly focused on small plates with a ton of creativity and expression. This is not the kind of place for«wedding pasta» and doggy bags. Get ready to sample an overwhelming of flavors in small bites that will leave you wishing each bite would never end. Dinner here will qualify as «An Experience». The Pulled-Duck Taco was exceptional. The duck cooked to perfection and the taco shell was toasted perfectly as well. It was finished with a fresh corn salsa. The Lamb Meatballs were also fantastic. I was also able to squeeze in a plate of Grilled Octopus. I only wish my stomach was bigger so I could have tried more food! As you would expect, the Wine List hit the mark. Not overly extensive, but filled with quality offerings in the mid-price range. I found a Syrah that suited my tastes… a couple of times over! If you’re in the area, or on a wine safari, you MUST stop here for a dinner! You will thank me.

Wow. Food and service here are exceptional. Everything is good from the bread to the cheese plate. A few of the dishes we enjoyed the most: crispy fried kale, togarashi spiced yellow fin tuna, pan seared diver scallops, thai mussels(I believe this was a special) and grilled cheese short rib. Oh, and desserts too! Definitely don’t go here if you are in a rush. Good food and service takes time. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
