Strachan Alan, PhD

Alan is one of my most trusted colleagues whose work I know personally through feedback from clients I’ve sent to him. He’s one of the therapy greats in Santa Cruz, highly respected, impecably trained, a deeply empathetic and caring therapist who brings his entire human being, intellectual, spiritual and emotional to his practice.
His excellence is born of deep respect for the uniqueness of each client, and an attuned sensitivity to whatever needs to be heard including gender concerns He’s a «therapist’s therapist» as nearly a third of his patients are other therapists who have come to trust his work.

As a recently retired local psychotherapist, I have a fairly good sense of which local people are worthy or referrals. Alan certainly sits at the top of that list, as a professional with integrity, a tremendous depth of experience, and great ability to understand and compassionately help others.
I’ve known Alan for many years, and have witnessed his work with others in a group setting. He brings spiritual depth, gender neutrality, and great wisdom into his interactions, and has a keen knack for quickly zeroing in on what is going on with whomever he’s working with.
Finally, I know Alan to be one of the most conscientious and conscious people I’ve met. His continual work on himself informs his ability to be present with whatever is in front of him, and this is a great gift to clients and friends alike.
