This review is for Dr. Gilbert’s assistant. She called us back and had a pleasant and calming phone voice but was rude, immediately turning us away and labeling a potential client(felt inappropriate and extremely unprofessional). To make it worse, she recommended us to another psychiatrist who was the worst one we’d ever been to. She had never even heard of Dr. Gilbert. If you’re going to turn potential patients away and recommend another Dr. it would seem as though you’d want to know that the dr. you’re referring to is solid, compassionate and on time. Huge waste of money and time.

Been seeing Dr Gilbert for years. He is awesome. Very pleasant, progressive, never a problem with scheduling or anything else. Kipp is the perfect receptionist. Bill your own insurance which is easy to do.

This review is only for the receptionist in Dr. Gilbert’s office. My doctor recommended I see Dr. Gilbert for a difficult to treat health condition and so I called to make an appointment. When asked, the receptionist informed me that Dr. Gilbert does not take my insurance and when I requested his rates, told me that if I was going to cancel my appointment due to Dr. Gilbert’s rates, that I should save him the trouble and just not book the appointment at all. Rude!

Granted, it is very hard to find a good psychiatrist for some reason. And also granted, Dr. Gilbert did come up with the first medication that has ever truly helped me. But he only gets 3 stars because he failed in other aspects. He failed to recognize that I was having extreme anxiety and was only treating me for depression. In the middle of a horrible anxiety attack, he recommended that I go to the hospital. They gave me a low dose valium and I was immediately better. I think he should have recognized this as anxiety and perhaps tried some anti-anxiety meds before trying hospitalization. Personality-wise he seems somewhat cavalier. At least outwardly he does not seem to show any feelings or empathy. Perhaps this is not the most important quality-really what is needed is a good scientist, but it is extra hard when you are going through an acute, rock-bottom moment of crisis. Additionally, Dr. Gilbert is very expensive and does not bill insurance. That also means that he is not a participating provider for any insurance companies. Your half hour appointment will cost you $ 160 and he charges about $ 100-$ 200 for short forms that he has to fill out. Then he makes sure you have to come back every month and pay this amount. Ultimately I question the morality of doctors who do this. Clearly they are only interested in serving people with money.

This is no exaggeration; Dr. Gilbert saved my life. I have ADHD, and in addtition, for the past two-plus years had been suffering with extreme agitation and restlessness, preventing me from functioning efficiently in life, and making me feel like I was going crazy. After working with a couple of other doctors, including another psychiatrist, I was referred to Dr. Gilbert who prescribed for me on the perfect combination of medications for my conditions. The relief was so great, so immediate, that I found myself crying our of sheer relief and gratitude to him. I am once again content, calm, comfortable, and functioning at a much higher level. My life is back on track, and I am finally feeling like my old self. Dr. Gilbert is incredibly knowledgeable,(30 years in parctice!) and his intuition mind-boggling. He is a wealth of great information, and delights in educating his patients with both hard fact and anecdote, along with reading materials that he keeps on hand for his patients. He suggests fantastic books and articles on explaining and coping with various conditions. He takes the time to listen at the deepest level, and is empathetic, patient and kind. I most highly recommend Dr. Richard Gilbert. 10 stars! Ally Florence
