Service: Fantastic waitress. She was a few months pregnant(in her 2nd trimester I would say) but she was hustling. Drinks right away after order, appetizers 5 minutes or so after it was ordered. And she was quick with the bill since we were in a rush. Atmosphere: Fun décor, very LARGE place. Great for groups if you are looking for a place to meet up. Food: AMAZING. Appetizer were the duck egg rolls(stuffed with cream cheese and duck) and served with a chili vinegar sauce. I could eat about 50 of these and still want them the next time I would order. I had the bison burger, very moist and tender which was surprising, most places don’t do Bison justice since it is such a lean meat. Fantastic side salad, I could have made a meal out of that. I will definitely be coming back in the future.

Can’t go wrong from top to bottom of the menu. Great pizzas, burgers, and the Friday fish fry is out of this world. I highly suggest the Vanilla Stout. Big fan of the chicken bacon ranch pizza, and the crab cake sandwich is one of the best I have had. Cool location and a very cool atmosphere on the inside, the definition of casual fine dining.

Portobello melt was very tasty! I would absolutely get that sandwich again. Flavorful on a super fresh soft bun, it was on point. I’m giving three stars because of the Organic Biergarten salad. An underwhelming salad which was boring and mediocre at best. While the greens were fresh, the ingredients just didn’t compliment each other. Blueberries, cherub tomatoes, walnuts and some dried out julienned root vegetable(multicolored carrots??) with blocked cheese… It was not worth the price at all!

We were there Friday evening looking for a fish fry. What an awesome find this was. I had the perch plate and the bride had the fried cod. All served with Malt Vinegar, a rare find in Wisconsin. The perch was fantastic and generous in portion. The wife’s cod was the most tender and flakiest we have ever experienced. Service was faster than expected. Wait staff was very knowledgable and friendly. Thanks, Stone Cellar, for a memorable evening.

Everything was excellent. We tried the scotch egg, jaeger schnitzel, and Shepard’s pie. Both our food and our server, Landon were great! Food took over 45 min to come out. Manager delivered it personally and apologized for our wait. It was worth the wait! Very cool atmosphere and yummy food! A must when you’re in Appleton.

Traveling for work and stumbled on this place. This is my second time here this week. Had the Bison Burger and tonight I had their signature tacos. Soooooooooooo good! Amazing food, amazing atmosphere, and the staff is great.

Pretty good stuff! The wait was quite long on a Saturday night, but we hung out in the tap room and tried some beer and munched on appetizers so it wasn’t bad at all. There was plenty of space up there, and the buzzer made it very convenient. The beer: Black IPA — pretty nice! Fairly timid for the style, but not offensive. Six grain ale — I’m not entirely sure what this was supposed to be, style wise, it seems a bit confused. Nice malt profile, clean. Oatmeal stout — great mouthfeel, virtually no head retention. A nice session beer. The food: The hummus was very nice, it seemed freshly prepared which is rare. I had a bison burger of some sort with blue cheese, ordered medium rare. It was a bit more strongly cooked(Probably medium well), but not overly dry. It wasn’t amazing, but it was rather tasty. The sweet potato fries were excellent. The service was great. They were obviously mobbed, but the wait staff was attentive, and the food and drinks came out quite quickly. So yeah, quite good all around, and definitely worth a visit!

Traveling for business, and was relying on Unilocal for great food and beers — definitely so happy we tried it out! Great variety of delicious beers brewed on-location — and the Schnitzel was amazing, and much bigger than my hand! Try the Fried Cheese Curds and Vanilla Stout! Shout out to our waiter, Coty, who was knowledgeable, had great recommendations, and was just friendly and upbeat — definitely made the experience even nicer. Atmosphere is rustic and has touches of exposed brick and wooden beams — relaxed and casual. And you can see the brewing systems and bottling system running, which is cool for the behind the scenes look.

I have been here numerous times and it has been fantastic each time. I love their beer and pairing it with cheese curds or an expertly crafted salad is the best. They also have a outdoor patio which is great for an evening meal with friends. HIGHLY recommend.

One of my favorite go-to restaurants in Appleton! The quality and service has always been top notch. Portions are generally decent to large so much so that I’m usually able to split a meal with my husband.(Except for the baked fish entrees). Great beers too — love the Scottish Ale.

The food was amazing. Scotch Egg — Good. Not amazing but tastes like a typical scotch egg. Brewers Schnitzel — My favorite dish. Nice and crispy and the cheese and bacon supply great flavor. A must if you’re a cheese addict. Niman Ranch Lamb Shank — My second favorite dish. The lamb was very tender and the sauce was not overpowering. Shepard’s Pie — Good. Not amazing. Flat Iron Steak — Good. Not amazing. A very safe dish to eat if you’re not looking outside the box.

So, it is really dark in here, they really want to make it seem like a cellar I guess. There is dim lighting, so I would not recommend for elderly or people with poor vision. The bathroom also left a lot to be desired. However, I had the elk burger which was amazing. I would go back for that. I didn’t have any beer this trip, but the soda was sub par. Our waitress was very nice. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here, but if I was in the area I would stop back in.

This is my favorite restaurant in the Fox Cities! From their home brewed beer, sodas, fish fry, and pizza you really can’t order anything here that you won’t love. I always get the cream soda and it is easily in my all time top 5 cream soda list.(I know that it’s crazy I have one of those!) You can even order a growler of it! Depending on my mood when I come here I normally start with cheese curds and move on to pizza or the fish fry. All of their pizzas are fantastic and I loved their fish fry when I had it. The atmosphere here is PERFECT for a romantic date night or you can sit in the bar with a friend. I have had so many meals here I won’t forget and go every time I’m in the area.

Meh. Stone Cellar may, as so many on Unilocal claim, be the best restaurant in Appleton, but that doesn’t mean it’s a great restaurant as so many Unilocalers claim. Three of us dined there and found the service to be subpar and the food mediocre. We ordered Copper River Sockeye Salmon(only in season now) and there’s no way that’s what we received. And, it was overcooked, dry and flavorless. My companions both ordered steak, which was decent. The overarching component of all three meals was lack of salt. Do they not season anything in Wisconsin? Salt. It’s a flavor enhancer. Tell the chef, huh? The appetizer we ordered, duck wings, was served to our party of three with four legs.(Most servers would simply ask if you want an upgrade to 6 for a table of three, right?). The duck wings came in a bowl with no plates for any of us. Odd. We ate off of cocktail napkins. The ambience in the restaurant is fine. You’re in a cellar, so it’s a bit dark, but that’s not a big deal for us. Noise level was fine. The clientele were very mixed. Young couples, families, women out for a bachelorette party. Overall, it was fine, but hardly a mecca of gastronomy or superior service

We stopped here prior to seeing a show at the Skyline Comedy Club upstairs. We shared a Scotch Egg, our first, which was very good. I tried their Whiskey Old Fashioned and a Moscow Mule. Also good. Service was excellent. 70’s rock was playing, which I found to be an odd but not completely unpleasant choice. Maybe it was being played ironically. I don’t know. Hipsters are crazy like that. We returned to the bar after the show to have another cocktail. One note: We asked the bartender when he thought we should go upstairs to the Skyline for the 8pm show. He said 7:20/7:30ish. When we got there at 7:30 the room was already ¾ seated. So if you don’t have preferred seating and it’s a popular act I would get up there sooner.

I have frequented this restaurant since I was a kid. Recently, they added more of a «Farm to Table» flare, which I was very happy to see. They use local cheeses, vegetables and meats from the area and everything on the menu is excellent. I still dream about their Four Year Aged Cheddar Burger. Completely drool-worthy! Oh yeah, their beer is great too. The last time I was there I tried the Pumpkin beer, which was phenomenal. I haven’t been disappointed here yet. It’s a place I make sure to visit on my trips back home to Appleton.

I agree with the naysayers here — the boyfriend and I had lunch at the Stone Cellar, and it was just plain bad, for the most part. The restaurant is down by the river, so the parking lot is pretty tight, and the restaurant itself is in, you guessed it, the cellar, past an odd variety of stores or some such. Going down the stairs felt like heading into a dungeon, and about as well-lit. In our corner booth, I felt a bit like we were being buried alive… Service was neither great nor terrible, but the food… oh, the food. The boyfriend hemmed and hawed and eventually settled on the Jaeger Schnitzel, which he thought was pretty decent. However, my fish and chips were flat-out the worst version of the dish I’ve ever had. The fish was soggy and greasy, the fries were nothing special, and the side of slaw was clearly out of a jar and perhaps past its best. One bite of that and I was ready to toss the whole plate. Seriously guys, with your emphasis on fresh and local and all that, HOW can you not make your own slaw, or at least buy something decent? So when people go on about the Stone Cellar and how fabulous it is, I just quietly die a little inside and vow never to return. I don’t know about beer, but if you like good food, go somewhere, anywhere else.

Stone Cellar has the potential to be everything great in its area. It failed a little bit with me, but that’s simply because I didn’t really enjoy my burger. Here’s the deal: The ambiance of this place is amazing. The atmosphere is so perfect for a great night out(and I imagine during the winter, this place is even busier). We visited as a party of eight, and ended up finding a table in the bar that we could eat without waiting for a table. I did notice that the wait seemed to be VERY long, so take note of that on weekends. Also, we called a few hours earlier to check on reservations. We were told we could call 45 – 30 minutes before we came, and they’d put our name in. When we did finally call, we were told that they don’t take names over the phone(after a bit of confusing arguing, they finally let us). I would just suggest that anyone answering the phone is a little more trained for guidelines. We ordered a few appetizers that were really good: my cheese curds were amazing. They’re squares, which is really odd, but weirdly fabulous. I loved them. We also ordered spinach and artichoke dip, which was great as well. Only down side: I feel like we only got about ten chips for the dip. We did ask for more chips, and they were delivered shortly thereafter. My burger wasn’t very good at all. It’s served dry, which is kind of a disappointment to burger fanatics. I also ordered it medium, after asking our server specifically if I should get medium or medium rare. I explained that I do like it to be very pink, just not dripping blood. She said I should go with medium, that it would be good. Turns out my burger was almost well done. Eh… fail. The service was great, she was clearly busy but she did not lack in any way whatsoever. We were all very happy with the service.
