I would give this place 10 stars if I could! This is a beautiful European style café, with the kind of atmosphere made for hours of chatting with friends and savoring amazing food. Besides a full case of fresh pastries and gourmet chocolate, they also offer rolls, bread and food with simple and fresh ingredients. Breakfast and lunch have many options. Lots of coffee choices(though I ordered Earl Gray tea), served in beautifully simple white cups. The pastries and food are artistic creations on a plate. The orange juice is fresh squeezed(always a sign of a quality eating establishment) too! They are Vegetarian friendly, but you may be challenged if you are gluten or dairy intolerant. My husband and I will be returning — we are from out of town but I want to replenish my pastry supply before we leave!

Hard to find little place. And that’s normally what I enjoy. But unfortunately I was very disappointed today. There are Unilocal reviews that warned me. Some good some bad so I wanted to give them a try. Menu was very hard to read and cryptic as to what was included. There was an item that had two eggs. So I ask if they had anything that included meat. She said they could do a side of bacon. OK. I’m good. And ask for a large orange juice. She mumbled a little and said to the other girls we need to do this and that. The meal included OJ and so there would be an up charge. $ 15.03 for 2 eggs bacon and a large orange juice. WOW. What I received were 2 eggs, 3 greasy slices of half cooked bacon and a cup of OJ. A solo cup for a $ 3.75 up charge. Wonder what came with the meal, a thimble of OJ. My guess is this a $ 8-$ 10 bucks at many other places. I feel I am not the target customer for this place. Ok. They want a certain demographic to enter please post a sign on the door saying. «No educated, affluent, financially stable people allowed.» I don’t mind paying for service or products. I just have an issue when you don’t get either.

Belgian Café is a true hidden gem. You can even park in front of the store and not realize it is there or open, just a single entryway in a small strip mall. I have been multiple times over the past few months and enjoyed it each time. Great pastries and chocolates, really good menu options for both lunch and dinner, and tasty coffee drinks as well. I am a big, big fan of any bakery that makes real macaroons. Not coconut, but real macaroons with almond extract(or whatever they use, so long as not coconut). We have always enjoyed the quiche and sandwiches, and as others noted it is nice to get a side salad rather than something fried or heavy. I can see the comparison to La Farm, but only in cuisine. Belgian Café is the inverse of La Farm’s busy(sometimes downright chaotic) interior. It is the kind of place where you can easily sit and burn an hour much like you would in Europe, eating and sipping slowly while you read a paper. The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is the cost, which is a bit high. We have always enjoyed it, but when it is $ 30 for brunch/lunch, then another $ 10 to $ 15 on pastries and such to take home, we have to be a little careful not to make it an everyday occasion. Of course, buying the extra stuff to go is a good problem to have — it is so tasty we can’t resist!

I come in and the atmosphere is very nice, it’s quiet and very organized but the building it is in doesn’t really match the inside. I just don’t think it’s the best location for an expensive breakfast café. I ordered a waffle and paid almost $ 8 for it so I expected it to be large. it was not, it was very small and honestly not worth the price(although it did taste good). also the name of every sing menu item is French, which I highly recommend changing!!! it was annoying to not know was the item was unless I read the description. I understand they are trying to be authentic but it was just a little too much. I still recommend this place because it was tasty, just overpriced

Wonderful! The food is delicious. We came for breakfast and had to come back another day because we were intrigued by the lunch menu. Very happy to have an option that is not a chain. Highly recommend!

Review from a person who has lived in Belgium for about a month: I was so excited that something of this sort was opening in Apex. We went for brunch on a weekend. They have a limited parking spot. Beware, the menu is in french. Fortunately, I could read it and my wife couldn’t :p The lady at the counter was not friendly and she was in some discord with the owner of the shop(of some sort). We wanted to just order and take our seat. The owner was very friendly and kept our toddler entertained. I have no complaints about their food. We ordered the quiche and waffle with brioche cream bun. The quiche was so fluffy and it was accompanied with edible flowers which was a surprise to me. The waffles were also good. We had packed some macaroons to go. The hot chocolates are not like your hot chocolates you would find in starbucks. Some would find them to be less sweet. But thats how hot cocoa is supposed to be !! My wife truly enjoyed their OJ, there are indeed freshly squeezed. I felt the place was pricier by $ 2 on each menu item(comparison with La Farm). We left this place feeling light. I did happen to drop by here to do some office work and the WiFi is good. Bottomline: Freshly squeezed OJ and slightly overpriced good food. But. deserves a chance.

We have been debating either to come or pass due to its questionable low review. but finally today we did., and here’s our verdict. Positive: Croissant and Pain au chocolat is one of the best out there… next to La Farm Crusty baguette Quaint cozy place Fresh fruits and orange juice Great customer on the counter Negative: Lackluster presentation Burnt eggs– seriously Pricey for the quality and amount of food Maton tasted weird– I suggest to lay low or totally leave out the almond extract, not pleasing taste at all. Maton should have buttery creamy taste. Note to owner or Manager of this establishment — there’s one server there that’s yearning to get fired, male, look mix Asian with messy dark hair almost covering his face, for someone who serves food he looks dirty and unhygienic. He’s rude and seem to hate his job. He tosses plates and orange juice containers on tables and throw the plastic number that he took from one table to the counter and end up overboard. He seriously made our experience uncomfortable that we had to rush eating, when he abruptly walked out and slam the door open after he was angrily pushing order on the register causing the container in front of it to fall on customer’s foot. I believe someone told him to take a break and he did., angrily. That was our cue to leave. We found him phasing back and forth smoking a cigarette., I sure hope he washes hands in between those cigarette breaks.

I had low expectations for this place – I was proven wrong with every item we ordered. The coffee was strong and smooth(and not crazy expensive). I ordered a Greek Salad so that I wouldn’t feel guilty indulging in a sweet from the beautiful selection of pastries. The salad was chock full of cucumbers, diced tomatoes, olives, lettuces, homemade vinaigrette, and feta. I thought I was sacrificing by choosing a salad – I was not. I’d order this salad again and often. My husband’s sandwich was huge with tons of salmon and avocado on a baguette – he loved it. We shared an apple pastry and a small fruit tart for dessert. Both were very good – my fave was the apple. The folks were friendly and helpful. We live near Brier Creek, but will gladly make the trip back to Apex to return to this gem!

Presentation is fantastic here as everything almost looks too good to eat. Inside is small and tight and during busy times it’s almost impossible to navigation throughout the restaurant without saying excuse me 5 times. It is clean and quaint and you definitely forget yours in a strip mall between a gas station and a good will. It is pricey, but understood given the other prices in town for upscale baked goods. We have gotten chocolate croissants, plain croissants, and macaroons. They croissants are good but the macaroons are hit or miss. Once I got them and they were perfect and the other time I got them they were over cooked and crunchy. Overall, I think this place is cute and might stop by if I’m looking for some fancy desserts for a dinner party. It’s probably not my first choice for breakfast/brunch.

Great place for brunch … Food is great. Only reason for 4 star is that the coffee was not hot at all both the times we ordered

An Apex local from birth, I am so glad to welcome the Belgian Café. I’ve been twice so far and it has far exceeded my expectations. It’s a hole in the wall treasure. The coffee(cordata) is my favorite. The service is amazing. And I love the authentic food. I am determined to be a «regular» here.

Once you find a workaround to the parking cluster outside this café, you’ll be able to treat yourself to a nice bite or two of non-standard fare. Belgian Café is tiny, seats maybe 40, which sounds like a lot, until you sit at the nearly kid-sized tables with the nearly kid-sized chairs. When all the seats are occupied, this place is cozy and quick escapes are a fantasy with the small aisles and close seating. Oh, and you can forget having a private conversation. If you can get past all that(as if the parking wasn’t enough), it’s not as bad as it sounds. It’s a great little café. There are no gigantic American meals here, rather a civilized entrée, befitting the«Belgian» part of the café and sized appropriately for the smaller tabletop. It’s a psychology 101 experiment. Go with it. I’ve only been here for breakfast, ordering the [beats me, I can’t even read the menu much less try to type what I ordered ] asparagus(cooked exactly right) wrapped in smoked salmon with eggs, fruit and a baguette. A few things caught my attention: the fruit was better than the typical melon cubes with an occasional grape; the food was served warm; and the coffee was good. Although there is table service, it’s only to bring food to the table. All orders are taken at the counter. As you wait to order, you will find yourself standing next to the pastry case, an intentional placement for maximum salivating. Tres Gauche. There is a menu board behind the counter; but with the paper menus, one would foolishly think those might be easier to read than a board placed at giraffe eye-level. As much as I admire the script font and the delicate print with its highbrow connotations, it’s hard to read. So, get here early to minimize the parking pain and the time spent drooling on the display case, take the time to read the menu if you can, find a table that has an escape route, enjoy the good coffee, and nicely done food.

Amazing! Everything was fresh and tasted great. I highly recommend the Belgian waffle. Best waffle I’ve ever had. The place is a bit small especially since they were so packed! Other than that everything was great!

Stopped by after reading the reviews. Hubby and I bought a chocolate mousse(but got the cake instead) and some sort of pastry with a cream cheese filling. The pastries are really good, but pricy. Like the other reviewers, it was frustrating to figure out what was what and how to pronounce it to the cashier. I ended up getting the chocolate mousse cake instead of the regular chocolate mousse. Would I come back? Eh… Maybe if I’m in the neighborhood. But I doubt I would make a special trip. I also found it uncomfortable when signing the receipt it had a place to write in a tip. But, what am I tipping for? For the cashier to take my order? Maybe a tip jar would be appropriate rather than on the sales slip. Idk. The cashier was friendly and they gave us the pastries quickly.

A Belgian eatery in town… oh we had to try this one! We went for brunch on a Saturday & found that parking can be difficult in the strip mall. We went in & my first impression… I couldn’t read the menu :-/There were description of each menu item in English, however having to read the description each item was time consuming. The lady at the counter taking our order wasn’t friendly… she had a straight face what so ever. These were the reasons I pulled off a star from their rating. The food itself was good. I had the smoked salmon with asparagus & scrambled eggs. I loved the salmon & the way the eggs were done. My husband ordered the quiche which was good. I only wished the quiche was more light & fluffy. It was loaded with veggies, which I liked. To satisfy our sweet tooth… We ordered waffles & brioche cream bun. We liked them So much that we bought two macaroons to go :) Overall a cozy café to stop by for Belgian pastries. It is slightly overpriced & I hope they rework on pricing & menu cards to attract more customers.

I saw the advertisement for the grand opening on Twitter, and was intrigued by how polished the initial marketing efforts were, and was determined to check it out. One look at the online menu will tell you the place is not cheap, and is going after the«upscale» palate. There’s an immediate disconnect in my mind considering the following: 1) located in an ugly strip mall with limited parking and 2) it’s directly across the street from Panera My issues: –you order at the counter and the labels on the pastries are written in typescript so small, they’re illegible — we had to get the person taking the orders to tell us they had raisin rolls, chocolate croissants, apple turnovers and regular croissants. — the menu itself is similarly illegible, a function of being written in very small type-face, and kind of pretentious, in that there is no description as to what comprises the exorbitantly priced menu item. — the main reason why I went in was to get recommendations on «something different» — they’ve got some interesting hot chocolates. Imagine my disappointment when they said they weren’t offering them on the menu yet; we could only get a regular(a small portion, and ridiculously over-priced) hot chocolate. –we ordered 4 pastries(2 chocolate croissants, apple turnover, raisin bun) — chalk this off to new business launch/kinks in training, but I was very annoyed that there were 2 people listening to the order, but that it took a few minutes for them to put the pastries in a bag(after we paid) and let us be on our way. The guy bagging our order decided he’d be meticulous and put each of the pastries into an individual bag, THEN label it(pressing down on the pastry with a permanent marker while it was in the paper bag — **blech** -), and THEN put the four smaller bags into a larger paper bag. It’s a frickin pastry — just dump it all into one bag — I really don’t care. — 4 pastries cost 14 bucks — ok so this isn’t as bad as the German Bakery or on par with what La Farm charges — but still — It’s pricey. The good: The pastries were delicious I hope they can overcome the dismal location, and work out the kinks with the overall service experience long enough for me to go back and try a real authentic Belgian hot chocolate.

I’m going to put it out there right off the bat — my experience was 3.5 stars, but I’m rounding up because I’m kind-hearted. Mostly, I’m rounding up because there are more plusses to this business than there are minuses. The major plus being the food. I ordered some pretty simple things that made an impressive impact. It’s the only interesting thing in the otherwise obscured strip across the road from Beaver Creek Commons. Parking might be tough on a busy day and the narrow drive-thrus could be a hindrance, depending on the circumstances. For instance, when I was ready to leave, a FedEx truck completely blocked the way out, with a line of cars impatiently awaiting the driver’s return. The location is not prime, but as I said, Belgian Café definitely spruces up that area. For breakfast, I had the Petit dejeuner aux oeufs, which is fancy French for 2 eggs, 2 slices of toast, 1 slice of Swiss cheese, orange juice and a side of fresh fruit. — $ 7.95. They only gave me 1 slice of toast and I refused the cheese. So, if you’re looking for info on how great their cheese is or how that second piece of toast was, I’m not your guy. But the O.J. was freshly squeezed, and I could tell from the first sip. The eggs were scrambled, light and uncomplicated, but delicious. That lonesome piece of toast was fired brown, appropriately buttered, and tasted good. The fruit side wasn’t much to speak of, but they never really are. I also had an apple turnover, which was flaky, and perfect. Their coffee, which I took black, was frank and even-bodied. Noticing a trend here? Everything I put in my mouth(aside from the uneventful fruit side) was wonderful. And I didn’t even get extravagant with many of the items you’ll see on their lunch menu. This place absolutely knows what they’re doing when it comes to food and I can’t recommend it highly enough as a culinary experience. As a dining in experience, I’m not so sure about. There was a quartet of women seated several tables away from me and they weren’t overbearing in their projections, but the acoustics made them louder than they should have been. Further, you order at the counter, take a number and sit. Straight-forward, yes, but there was no wait service to speak of, and it wasn’t very obvious either. They do bring your food out to you once it’s ready, but I was paying with credit card, which had the tip line right out there for me to fill in, way before anybody had even done anything for me. I hate that in a business, and if they’re gonna do that, at least wait my table. The free wifi was quick, but you have to ask for the password. Everything was clean and their assortment of pastries looked fresh. If they’re anything like that apple turnover, you probably can’t go wrong. What I disliked the most about this place was their seating. There are several ultra-tiny tables for lone guests, and they’re just terrible. To expand on the seating, it’s a very claustrophobic scene and if they’d just toss out one of those ridiculous tables fit for Ant-Man, they’d have noticeably more room for contentment. Some seats don’t even look like they could accommodate one customer without putting out another. Luckily, I was there during a down time, or maybe, as a new spot, they just haven’t heated up yet. Still, not kidding — it all reminded me of cult hot-spots in New York City that pack in as many guests as they can just to get that dollar, no matter the level of discomfort. So, there you have it — fantastic food that’s worth your time and travel, with a few little issues that can be fixed to make them earn that extra half star. No matter how you look at it though, the business is an asset to Apex and I’m glad they’re around to give it just that much more oomph.

What a gem of a café and a boon for Apex! This is exactly the kind of business we want to attract and support. Fits right in with the quaint #1 town in the USA. The décor is clean modern European with first class service and delectable cuisine. We’ll be back — often!

As a Belgian native living in Apex, I definitely had to try this out. A Belgian café in Apex, how cool could this be? The food was excellent(I had the salmon and goat cheese salad, and then a fresh pastry). The staff and the owner were very friendly and made me feel appreciated. I will definitively be back for more.

Today was the grand opening. Let me start with the positives… the food was amazing! I had coffee(which was free), scrambled eggs, Swiss cheese, bread, fresh fruit and fresh orange juice. I also got a chocolate ganache tart to go so I can enjoy later. I really thought they would have someone out greeting people as they came in. I waited in line and no one bothered to acknowledge me. I waited awhile for my food to be brought out. I’m glad I wasn’t with the table of ladies next to me, they were well before me, but no one received any food until after I was done eating. I think once they work out some kinks and really focus on customer service, they could do really well!
