Um i freakin love pupusas okay, and to know this place is right around the corner from my job gives me great joy. Their food tastes so fresh and authentic, it baffles me. The only thing is the beautiful women that work there don’t understand some english, so it’s extremely hard to communicate with them at times. Honestly it’s not even their fault I took spanish for 3 years in high school and didn’t learn a lick so maybe im the one at fault lol. But I do think hiring someone that’s bilingual would really push this business forward in servicing the non spanish speakers lol I wish I would have paid attention in class though nonetheless. They’re also call DELICIOSO now not CHICKENHOUSE.

I will say, if you’re not a single, Latino man well you’re not going to get good service. I have walked in a the woman at the register will look right at me and she will not ask if she can help me or if she can take my order. Same when I have walked in with my husband, however all the single men seem to be getting all the ladies attention. I used to order from here well because their carne asada was good and I live at the Avant so it was convenient. The carne asada used to come with rice, beans, salad and chorizo. Well the last time I called to order for pick up(since I hate coming in to order there). Get home and there is no chorizo. I called and told the lady both orders had no chorizo, she then tells me it no longer comes with it. I said to her well you guys should say that. She goes, well you didn’t ask. I told her, I’ve been coming here for months and didn’t think I had to. She was very rude and said then next time you should. She did not provide managers number, instead she hung up the phone on me. I will drive to the other chicken house in the shopping center with the Safeway before ordering from these people again. They are much friendlier and they still provide chorizo with their carne asada, plus they give you two pieces of carne instead of one.

Best Central American food in Annandale. Most meals, with the exception of sandwiches, come with a small salad, rice, and beans. The meat is very well cooked and full of flavor. The burritos are amazing: they’re large, stuffed, and hot! Ready to eat! The Yucca con Chicharron brings a small salad in the center of the meal itself. The food is fried and delicious. Their chicken sandwiches are exceptional. I can tell you I’ve had each of these to include bean, mixed, and cheese pupusas. Now, the establishment isn’t exciting or exuberant, but it does the job. There is music playing, soccer or music videos playing on their four flat screens, and pastries. They have cakes, breads, and beer. There is also horchata and agua de marañon. Stop by and try their food. The price is right and so are their portions.

Bad food. In general don’t waste ur time just go to chicken pollo up the street. They don’t speak any English which is fine. But their food was just not up to par for the amount they charged me. The sopa de red had a horribly bland broth. Pupusas were not wowing to me. Blah

I’m surprised by mediocre reviews– it’s not a flashy place but I was blown away by the food! It’s not FAST but they seemed to be cooking everything to order so I didn’t mind it. I had a burrito which sorta redefined«burrito”– a gooey cheesy bit of heaven, with some chips with beans and salsa on the side. The green sauce is bangin. My friend had a daily special which he was equally thrilled with. I looked around while we waited and we apparently ordered the wrong thing– everyone else seemed to get the soup and papusas. I will go again just for this, because that looked incredible and is probably what you’re *supposed* to order.

I’ve read the other reviews and well … The place serves SALVADOREAN cuisine. I think the popusas on the menu might have given it away. The cooks have their rendition of Peruvian dishes like lomo saltado, pollo saltado and pollo a la brasa but they are Salvadorean cooks, with their own country’s «way» of making these meals. You might also notice the menu lists, «lomo saltado de carne»… Ummm… It’s like offering«T-bone steaks made of beef»… I thought it was cute. With that said, the chicken soup and beef soup are absolutely delicious. The popusas are yuuuuuuuuumy and the steak dinner is very very good. The girls that cook and serve are sweet and friendly and they serve beer. Yes, the music is loud but if you look around the place, their regular customers like it. We aren’t used to the high volumes but their primary customer base seems to love it.

I work in the same neighborhood as the chicken house and we eat chicken here twice a week religiously. The Yuca is Fat! Yum! With a nice cold inca cola on the side– deeeeelish. I havent tried anything else to be honest but the chicken is actually bigger & more tender than edys. My co-worker says the pupusas are impecable. Service is reasonable its an eat-in’ not a Restaurant so if your looking for a fine dining experience like the guy below, wrong place. Its a great spot for pick up or a quick bite! Highly recommended.

I mistakenly went into the Chicken House thinking it was one of the other Peruvian spots. Oops, it’s Salvadoran. Oh well, I was here and hungry so let’s just see what they got. I ordered the ½ chicken with a side of rice. It comes with a little side salad and tiny, tiny cups of jalapeño sauce and another white sauce which tasted mostly like mayo. The chicken was OK but I surely have had better. The bland rice for $ 2+, I think not. The interior of the place has no rhyme or reason, other than TVs blaring Spanish programming. At least try and show you care about something about the diner’s experience. In the end, I survived but left very unimpressed. Like others have said, there are many other Salvadoran spots, and all are probably better. This place could do better, but think they are happy where they are at.

I’ve gone here a couple of times after work to bring home dinner. The food is plentiful and relatively inexpensive. I had the steak dinner with rice and beans and a sausage. It was good, not great. My wife had the shrimp dinner with rice, salad, and French fries. Her meal was also good, not great. It’s better than a typical fast food joint if you want something different. Tortillas came with both meals.

Great portions. I order the Polla a La Brasa. I wish I would have ordered the bowl of soup everyone else seems to have known about and ordered. The table and walls were not clean though.

Ran in here today after shopping at HMart and wish I had tried it earlier. The taco platter is delicious. The tacos come in a thick corn tortilla shaped almost like a little cup filled with delicious beef and pico. Rice and beans were also tasty and a huge glob of sour cream on the side. Well work the $ 8. Only taking away a star because it took a pretty long time despite me being the only person there.

The decision to come here was random and unexpected.(Thanks to the«nearby» feature). Everyone was curteous and the order took as long as one would expect for made-to-order food. I, of course, had to get plantanos and I tried the chicken tamale. The plantanos were just a little bit too ripe for my liking — I like them ripe because then they are sweet but not so ripe that they are mushy when fried. The tamale wasn’t bad. I would come again to try something different.

I knew something was fishy when I walked into the Chicken House and couldn’t smell the roast of Pollo a la Brasa. Shoot, half of Annandale smells like Chicken Pollo up the street. With that said, I went ahead and ordered a standard half chicken meal with extra Yuca(so much for my new years resolution to «stop making conscious poor decisions»). Keep in mind there are only two other parties in the restaurant, and only one with an active order. 20 minutes later, my to-go order still hadn’t arrived. After checking in with the cashier, she ordered a Spanish rant into the kitchen, and my meal was soon done(another 10 minutes). Regardless of what did or didn’t happen in the kitchen, my chicken was dry when I dug in after a 5 minute ride home. The Yuca was good, but I’m also a huge sucker and I’m not predicting a change of their namesake to Yuca. The seeming attitude that 30minutes is an acceptable wait for a piece of pre-cooked chicken really turned me off for what was to be a quick lunch pickup and the dry factor isn’t going to merit a return trip.
