The Necto Night Club

I went to Necto for their Pride Night which happens on Fridays. When i went, there was no cover before 11:00 PM, and they had a drink special of $ 2 long island iced teas before that time, as well. It seemed like a pretty good deal, so I gave the place a shot.
The club is pretty big with a couple of dance floors and an outside patio. I had a good experience with the bartenders, and I was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the women’s bathroom. However, that’s about it. The DJs were passable at times and boring at others. In addition, the crowd was very juvenile, so I feel as though this place is best skipped if you are not a college student.
In the end, I do not plan on visiting Necto frequently because I felt as though the experience was fine but, in the end, unsatisfying. They do somewhat frequently book drag queens who have been on RuPaul’s Drag Race, which might bring me back in, but that’s about it.

I have only been to Necto for Factory (Monday) because my friends are regulars and we know DJ Jinx. Monday is where all the weird people come out, but they are generally a polite bunch, a few creeps aside. Dress dark/​goth/​eccentric to the max this night. You have to be open minded, but I like the atmosphere. Last two times I got free e-​cigs from people handing them out. Drink prices range, but they are good drinks. Ive never had an issue, so Ive never needed security so I cant speak on how they handle the situation, but if youre buzzed and come with the right people, its a ton of fun. They have lockers to store your things (pay in quarters) and a parking garage around the corner to park in. There is a smaller room called the Red Room with EDM music and a smaller, more private atmosphere. For smokers or those who want to cool off, there is an open air, ceilingless room too. I have several good friends who are regulars Monday nights, and so far Ive never had a poor experience due to anything from Necto itself. There is a stage to get up and dance on too to get out of the crowd, and large bathrooms. If you come with the right people and dont cause trouble it is a great time.

Terrible customer customer. Bobby the manager, refused to retrieve my jacket in coat check. The coat check associate beforehand threw me someone else’s coat in my face and yelled to take it. They tried to give me someone else’s coat and they and in that knowingly been giving away someone else’s property. I’ve never seen such a dysfunctional club. Terrible management. Stay away.

I thought I was the only one. As much as I love EDM music and partying, I hate staff and party goers that make a lot of racist comments to our group.
It’s 2015 people, grow up!

Okay, so I’m basing this review off of a one night experience the first Saturday in December (college night) 2014. My boyfriend and I were itching to go dancing and saw this club was awarded best this year in the Detroit metro area. We arrived just before ten, found a parking garage just around the corner for around 1.50 an hour and made it in free. Since he’s over 21 he got a wrist band and me being 19 got the common x drawn on. Coat check was 2.50 each, they were very fast and friendly. Then we went to the bar, it took a really long time for service, with a douche trying to cut us grabbing her attention. My bf asked for a Budweiser and water, she dropped the bud for $ 4 and I’m pretty sure gave my water to the douche! After at least 5 minutes I was able to grab her attention and tell her, she finally gave me the water that I’m pretty sure we didn’t get charged for (whatever she sucked!) So then there’s the main dance floor, playing Rihanna, Eminem, LMFAO, Chris Brown, a lot of people, poles on the side you can dance on, and smoke coming out towards the ceiling. Seems like the obvious hotspot, but then the hidden gem is found to the right down a staircase you’ll see the smoking outdoor heated room, restrooms, a bar, and another staircase with another dance floor. I liked the dJ here way better she was playing Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, a lot of 70’s, 80’s music we liked it a lot. Smaller crowd, but cooler people. When we went to the smoking room I was really impressed with the décor but the room was FULL of dudes, I was the only girl… Then a douche came up asking «Are you guys twins?» My boyfriend looked like he was about to punch him in the face Lol I said «Nope been together three years!» He said «Well congrats, because you have beautiful eyes» ughhh leave me alone! I finally nudged my boyfriend to get the heck out of that sausage fest. We had a fun time when we just focused on each other on the dance floor, we just like going to clubs every once in awhile. I’d probably rather go to Elektricity on a Saturday, but looking at other reviews Fridays sound like fun. I’d check it out if you haven’t!

Got kicked out multiple times, all for reasons that are unjustified. They kick people out a lot for very bad reason, like an I’d with a different haircut

It’s a meh club. Expensive drinks, eh crowd, never really that fun. But okay if you want to dance. Sometimes decent shows in here.

The best place for dancing in AA. There is cover and drinks can be pricey, but the DJ does a decent job and there’s always a good, energetic dance floor.

I have been at Necto 3 times.
Thursday ~ great college night! (place is full) You can dance a lot (and pole dance if you want). One of the bests nights that I had at Ann Arbor.
Monday ~ really strange day, few people, only for who like that kind of stuff… search for it and go with black clothing…
Wednesday ~ Should be a nice day (like staff favorite day) but that day had 5 people in the club, and I have been kicked out… Just because a girl that I didn’t even touched her talked to the security (probably her friend) and I was kicked out like that… (I have never been kicked out in my life, it’s not like I have fight our anything like that, it’s just because if someone have contacts in there they do whatever they want… Awful experience, money thrown away. Don’t know if I wanna go back. At least at the end the manager gave me his e-​mail to talk to him, that shown me some concern from the staff…

Meh indeed.
Hadn’t been in like 5 years and was dragged for a friends birthday party. It used to be a sweaty/​dirty place you tolerated because it was packed with people and the music was good. Now its still sweaty and dirty but its ½ empty and the DJ seems to have forgotten his library of hip hop tunes and instead played a tape of industrial equipment malfunctioning. At one point, this is not an exaggeration, there was a mashup played of the «bird is the word» pee wee herman song and «a mili» by lil wayne… this is not a joke, that actually happened. Everyone on the dance floor paused for like 20 seconds and looked around confusedly until they changed the song.
Bombs were ³⁄₁₀ and the bartender poured liberally and that’s the only thing preventing this from getting a 1 star rating. Between this and the demise of scorekeepers the last decade has hit Ann Arbors thursday night harder than globalization has hit Detroit.

This is my Friday night hang out with friends and I always have a blast! There is no cover if you arrive before 11pm and you’re a student with ID. There are two rooms to choose from, the main dance floor that plays top 40 club music and the ‘red room’ which usually plays older and more fun music. There is a large patio/​smoking area as well as two bars. Tony the bartender is the sweetest man alive! I took off one star because the bouncers are usually sassy and it’s not a perfect place. But for what it’s worth it’s a great place and in a safe area.

The only bummer was that their was a private party on the upper level, but ehhhh, downstairs was plenty fun. I got to dance like a mad man and nobody paid it no mind, everyone here dances like they are cray cray.
The Necto draws an unpretentious crowd. Normally at clubs, people could be stuck up, nobody here was stuck up what so ever, and to get a crowd like that, means they do what it takes to draw an un-​douchey crowd.
The smoking room was the bomb dot com.
I look forward to coming back to Necto AKA The Exotic Express, where it’s party time, all the time.

Necto, after having 4+years of service with you guys, your staff had the nerve to release racist a and sexist comments to our groups. How dare you release such negative and discriminatory comments to the University of Michigan student body. You guys are degenerates after calling me and my Asian American friends sluts and whores. You are no different than Club Dream.

The bouncers are definitely the losers from HS that went nowhere in life and now torment the economy boosters that have the funds to drink in the lovely city of Ann Arbor. No need to discuss drinks, service, music etc.. Cause most decent people won’t get past the door.
If by some miracle you do make it in there, do not leave your girl alone!!! so many low life pervs in here that dont care if the girl is with a guy or not, they ass grab and stare and make obscene comments. I once told a guy to harassing my girl, he punched me in the face, and I got kicked out.. . Im in favor of this place closing.

I absolutely love Necto. I’ve gone from everything to a regular College Thursday to a Zedd & Porter Robinson concert, and each time, the venue doesn’t disappoint. Great music, great lights, and a great atmosphere.
The best thing about Necto? The Red Room. Each time I go, the music amazes me. I recently went to Recreation on Wednesday and had a blast, as well as MEDMA’s Impulse last week. Fantastic, fun environment that’s closed off from upstairs and doesn’t play «club» music, but just, good music. A must-​hear for EDM lovers.
The main critiques I hear about Necto aren’t complaints about Necto, they’re complaints about nightclubs. When you go to one, you should know what to expect, remember that the staff have to deal with drunk people for 6 straight hours and some club-​goers are just plain weird.
Pros: The Red Room, the themes, outdoor/​smoking patio, drink specials, no fights, safe atmosphere, fun bartenders/​staff, great concerts, and reduced entry if you get there early.
Cons: A few strange individuals clubs always attract, annoying people, and sometimes it’s too loud to talk/​hear.
As a frequent nightclub goer, I recommend bringing friends and earplugs. But that’s just me. Either way, when I go to Necto, my night is always one to remember.

We were gonna go hang out here for a roller derby fundraiser, but we got to the door 6 minutes before 1:30 and they refused to let us in.
It was a bummer, but the even bigger bummer was that the door guy refused to get a manager when we requested to speak with one — and we’re not rude people or anything. It just seemed like super bad customer service, all things considered.
Our night ended up well salvaged elsewhere though, but I don’t think I’ll be back at the Necto, based on principal alone.

This is a great place to dance. Large dance floor, two levels, three bars.
I have had a lot of fun at Necto when I was crazier and would go out alone. You can definitely have fun if you come here by yourself and make friends. Cheap cover, fun atmosphere, decent music.
Monday night is Goth night. I’ve only been once when I was in a bad place. Had a friend make me look like a goth and went and got inebriated. Monday night is like Halloween. People are dressed up with freaky masks and zombie blood.
There’s a stage on the main dance floor with poles that people really enjoy.
A lot of my friends who are girls like to go on gay night, since there are fewer creepers.
The drinks are good. Make friends with a bartender, and get their signature drink.
The place is 18+ so you might run into some people who are just coming out of high school. Don’t be a creeper. Also don’t buy drinks for under aged people. Bad form, and they have hawk-​like security who will swoop in and correct your error.
