A real find at Pierre Paul Art Gallery — The place looked like it would be too expensive but I was pleasantly surprised by how the price was right in line with other quotes I got for a limited edition vintage poster. Custom framing has never been inexpensive so I’ve been on the lookout for a place who could give me a classic look that wouldn’t date or need reframing for a long, long time. Judging by the upmarket look of the place, I was expecting it come to a lot more. The sales staff really was very helpful with ideas and suggestions and they have a plethora of choices and walked me through the process of what they do and why. It looks like a big-city gallery and seems out of place in its somewhat uninspiring location. You have to go in to see it. What I didn’t know was that this has been around for over thirty years now. There’s lots of art from local Michigan artists with some pretty landscapes. My framing job looked wonderful when I picked it up and I’m adding this place to my master list of Ann Arbor stops. I’m finally over falling for the great 70% off coupon swindle that large art supply stores send out.(Just how high is their markup when they can offer such discounts and still make money? Enough with that). The great insider discovery at Pierre Paul Art Gallery is the unique selection of gorgeous glass art, sculpture and bibelots. And all at VERY do-able prices. I bought a lovely glass piece for a wedding present for a lot less than I was expecting and they even arranged shipping for me. What a find! Nice to see a gallery support Michigan and Ohio glass artists so well. The glass pieces don’t have that TJMaxxy/Marshall’s/Home Goods sort of look — that stuff is fine for cheap accessorising but it’s good to give a one-off item for special occasions or just for the pleasure of treating yourself. I intend buying something for myself PDQ.

This place is so phoney! It’s really a framing store with high pressure and not much service orientation, I think.
