Insane seafood selection. For lunch, I had skate with a lemon capers dressing that was absolutely phenomenal. Chowder, mussels, salmon – EVERYTHING they offer is out of this world! The staff is also exceptionally kind, knowledgable, and attentive. Also, there is no tip line on the receipt so be sure to leave your server a tip! They deserve it!

We go for oysters during out Saturday market visits on a regular basis. Always friendly service, though due to its popularity and location in the market building you can get a tough wait(tight, you’re always in someone’s way, it can get hard to tell who’s next, you have to reach through people eating at the bar spots…) Most likely you will NOT be able to sit, as they only have a handful of tables. In the summer, you might find a seat in the courtyard, though lunch time again gets tougher. The fish we’ve purchased was always great and we’ve gotten good tips about which fish to get for different things. Overall, one of our local favorites.

I adore this place. I come here at least once a week for lunch(usually more!). Some of my favorites: Thai Shrimp Special with Rice Lobster Bisque Lobster Roll(not on the lunch menu but they will Make it for you) Only thing on the menu I didn’t love was the salmon burger. The fries are crunchy but not greasy. The coleslaw is great too!

DELICIOUS! Go here for super fresh sea food super fast — not for the environment because it’s in the bigger karrytown market. You’re able to order different seafood dishes and also any most types of fishes cooked to order. I went when it wasn’t super busy for lung and they cooked me shrimp to order which they usually don’t do. I had the shrimp with a lemon caper sauce and seasonal sautéed vegetables. It was so so good! My boyfriend got the fish and chips — their chips are handmade and have lots of potato skin on them :).

I tried the hake(like cod) with grenobloise(lemon caper sauce) and basmati rice. It’s so good! Buttery meat, not crumbly, sauce not too overwhelming either. A total of $ 10 something. Not bad for a fresh fish dish! It’s light yet filling. You can pick your choice of any fresh fish and have them cook it with different sauces and a side for an extra charge — look at the menu. Inreally love this idea. I’ve never been to any place like this before. The lady assisting me was very friendly. We came around 2pm and there was no line at all. They take quite some time to cook so let your friend sit at a table(or not) while you look around at the shops. After you’re done eating, go back up to the counter to pay. They are only open for lunch 11am-3pm. But I think they are open longer hours if you want to buy fish.

So far I’ve only had the fish and chips which tasted great. There is a lot of other food I want to try there.

Delicious, high quality seafood. Their pint sized chowder is the best deal on the menu, comes with a slice of bread, very filling. However, my favorites are all of the lunch specials, which follow a schedule: M — Fish Tacos W — Thai Shrimp F — Crispy Fish Sandwich Sat — Fried Oyster Po’ boy Tuesday and Thursday are different every time, so you’ll need to check the menu on those days. Fish and chips is good, but greasy — it is fish and chips, what else would you expect? Other items include mussels, I hear they’re good if you’re into those. They also have a full display case of fish, you can have them blacken any one of them that you like. Final tip, get a side order of the market slaw. Always good, never swimming in dressing, and adds a bit of delicious veggie to your order.

Living in Kerrytown for a year, Monahan’s was always about a block away. The food is rather pricey for a college student, but the taste and freshness can’t be beat. I had the fish and chips and my girlfriend had the fish sandwich and both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I enjoyed just standing there and watching the hustle and bustle of the cooks and the butchers and the atmosphere.

The fish and chips are delicious and the cajun shrimp(cold in the display case) are yummy. I wish there were more places to sit but its a great spot.

So I finally got around to visiting this place. I had read so many positive reviews on here, but I’ve been disappointed before so I tried not to expect too much. Monahan’s definitely lived up to the reviews. I had the fish and chips(Cajun) and it was great! Both were piping hot, which is exactly how I like my food. The Cajun seasoning on the fries was spot on, although they could’ve been fried just a bit longer to get the potatoes to the optimal texture. I do agree with a few other posters, the portions are a bit smaller than expected. I was able to fill up because I had plenty of fries, but I think the fish pieces should’ve been a tad bigger or they should’ve given me one more. All in all, it’s a great place for fresh, tasty seafood. I can’t wait to come back and try more items!

You have never been to Monahan’s, my colleague asks. No, I haven’t until today. Oh my gosh. I am sold. I had the cajun shrimp salad this afternoon at lunch. It was absolutely phenomenal. The shrimp was sold and soaked in a mayo cajun dressing served aside homegrown tomato slices and lettuce along with 8 or so crackers. It was so good. My colleague had the fish tacos which looked really good as well. The servers were incredibly friendly. 5+ stars for Monahans. I’ll be back for fresh fish. The counter fish looked really really good.

SETTING: May be hard to find due lack of signs, but so worth it when you find it. Remember finding an Easter egg and discovering your favorite candy inside? This time, it’s an oyster instead of an egg… and the inside is not chocolate! That’s a beautiful thing. Just keep your eyes peeled for fish on ice and it will lead you to Monahan’s. FOOD: Menu is off to the side, hanging from the ceiling above the counter top/bar where customers can eat. Can’t go wrong with the Fish & Chips! I’ve always associated F&C with post-meal regret. Fried foods are delicious and not the best quality, and for some reason F&C just seem to be the worst offender. The fish is NEVER fresh(is that written into the recipe??) and covered with crazy amounts of batter(like it’s trying to hide something). Yet, I still eat it from time to time. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice… Monahan’s F&C is a whole new breed. I didn’t think soft, fresh, and juicy F&C was even a real thing! And the batter, although it looks heavy and bulky, is actually quite thin and airy. Think of a puffy pastry and you’ll understand the texture. 3 pieces on top of a bed of delicious fries. Also shared the special, which was the oyster po’boy. This was my first time having fried oyster, and it has to be one of the best things I’ve had recently. Crispy on the outside, and oh so soft on the inside. The freshness allowed the oyster to be soft and not chewy at all. Move aside, calamari, we got a new kid on the block. SERVICE: Find a table(countertop, tables, or outside), and they bring out the food to you. It’s not fast-food, so be patient. Self-serve for water, condiments, etc. IMPRESSIONS: Monahan’s put’s the capital F in «Fresh» seafood. Scratch that. They put the capital F-R-E-S-H in «FRESH seafood». So FRESH that they make the Prince of Bel-Air look foolish(Sorry, Will). Although a bit pricey for the quantity, the quality absolutely justifies the markup. I’ll definitely be back for the F&C or to try another item. Sea ya soon!

I am trying SO hard to try these elusive Po Boy sandwiches. but the hours are SO weird and limited! Hot food is only served on SATURDAYS11am-3pm. I ran here last week on a Sunday and the only hot thing I was able to get was a Seafood soup. So please keep in mind this is for that Seafood Soup(NOT those elusive po boys… I will re-review once I try them!) The Seafood Soup is actually more like a broth. There were generous scraps of fish, clams, mussels within this soup. The small cup comes with a yummy piece of bread and I ate it all! I probably won’t get the soup again because 1) I would rather have the Clam Chowder but of course it wasn’t available when I ran there 2) There are so many other seafood options over that soup! Anyways… expect a re-review!

I followed the reviewers choice and went to this quaint seafood market located in Kerrytown, but I should have done a little more research before ordering. The fries with the cajun spice was good, but way too much spice on the fries made it overbearingly salty and the amount of fries that they gave was disappointing. On the brighter side, the gulf shrimp I had ordered was really fresh but then again a teensy bit overcooked and it would have been nicer with a little more care to the presentation. It was literally 6 pieces of lonely shrimp served on a bed of crushed ice on top of a paper plate. I guess I was just expecting something with a little more flare for the $ 13 I paid for 6 pieces of shrimp. I had tried to order an oyster po boy like one reviewer had recommended but was sorely disappointed when I had found that it wasn’t the special for that day so they weren’t serving it. Why, oh why didn’t I listen to my husband and just let him order the fish and chips like he had wanted to? Beats me, but I am totally regretting it now and hoping that one day in the near future I will be able to return to Ann Arbor and give this place a second try and really experience the greatness that everyone’s raving about.

We stopped by for lunch and had the very delicious salmon burgers. I also had the lemon garlic spinach side. The spinach was also very tasty but why is it about $ 2 more than a side of fries or cole slaw? Many of their lunch specials look fantastic!(they post them on social media) Order at the counter, pick a seat(the black iron tables in the courtyard are nice when the weather is nice) and they will bring your lunch out to you. The fish in the case are beautiful!

I was in Ann Arbor for three days and after the first day of trusting my fellow Unilocal reviewers with this restaurant, I couldn’t WAIT to find my way back before I left town. The restaurant is located inside the farmers’ market. I would love to comment on several of their items buuuuuut, I had the fish and chips on the first visit and the fish and coleslaw on the second visit. This fish was DELICIOUS. They have a case of fresh fish so no worries about being concerned that this might be frozen fish for the local grocery store. The home cut fries and slaw were also delicious. Fresh, delicious and reasonable prices. Hands down, a MUST try place when visiting the quaint city of Ann Arbor!

Came here for a quick lunch and had the Cajun shrimp salad sandwich. It tasted very fresh and I was happy that the shrimp wasn’t overly doused in a mayo coating. I also tried the fried fish, that too was great. I usually just buy fresh fish here and not their lunches, but after today I’ll be back!

Such a great find in the Sparrow Market. Monahan’s offers an amazing and varied selection of dishes, all of which are sure to be fresh, well prepared and delicious. I’ve tried the salmon burger and fish and chips here. Both were well cooked and seasoned. The rest of their menu looks great and I am eager to try the rest of their offerings. There’s also the great option of choosing whatever they have in the case that day. You get to choose how you want it to be prepared and what seasonings. Best of all, the prices are very reasonable for the quality of food you get. A highly recommended place that’s worth any excuse to go.

Came in for fish tacos yesterday and was super impressed. My buddy got the fried and I asked for mine to be sautéed. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful! Two tacos come per order and both were absolutely delicious. Nice portion of fish and delicious slaw. I loved both but next time I would probably get the fried. The batter is so crunchy and light. Can’t wait to return for lunch to try some of their other dishes including the fish sandwich, salmon burger, salmon teriyaki and mussels. Also, I heard they have a delicious lox bagel on Sundays.
