I honestly have nothing bad to say about this experience. We waited about an hour to be seated but we should’ve known better than to try and get a meal in Ann Arbor with out a reservation on a Saturday night. Our bad. Chicken Scallopini: very good! Perfectly cooked and not too dry. The capers fit the sauce well. My only suggestion is maybe not pair it with mashed potatoes. It’s weird. Grilled Sirloin: my husband devoured it! The cook on it was perfect! Nuff said. Chicken Parmesan: it has a sweet sauce, some people like that. My daughter said it was also very good. Crème Brûlée: there are no words to describe this level of deliciousness. The custard was perfectly set, sweet, and creamy. The crust on top might have been a tad bit too burnt as parts of it left a bitter taste while the perfectly brûléed areas were a beautiful crunchy sweet caramel. The waitress was very good but my husband did sit for quite some time with an empty glass. Overall we had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend it.

Knight’s Steakhouse is amazing. Stopped here for lunch today with my girlfriend to get something to eat before we go to a few Record stores, didn’t expect to have some of the best food I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is great, our server Kim was lovely, the complimentary rolls were perfect, wedge salad was fantastic(she even split it in two for us!), and then the braised ribeye tacos were delicious. Their French Dip was the best French Dip I’ve ever had. Not from Ann Arbor but will definitely come back the next time I come(next week maybe!?).

The soul of any restaurant resides with its employees. I am impressed and humbled by the staff this evening as they showed the same(benevolent) service to Ann Arbor’s forlorn as they do to the privileged, speaking to the quality of individual that works here. The atmosphere is hip; a stark departure from the Original Knight’s that at times seems in contrast to their traditional menu offerings. I cannot complain, however, about the modern bar that houses many televisions, all playing the sporting event du joir. The drinks are typically Knight’s — Over-poured. And, the food is traditional steakhouse with very reasonable price-points. Two reasons to come in and of themselves. I applaud this restaurant for their commitment to service. I appreciate their devotion to excellence, a reason to visit time and again!

I went here after the Michigan basketball game over the holidays and had a great experience! I have several allergens at this moment(digestive intolerance) and there was really accommodating. Our server was excellent as well. He was personable while still being professional and made us laugh. I ordered the petit filet medium which came perfectly cooked and was amazing, hands down. The flavor of the meat itself because I had them cooked in just olive oil and spices was great. I also had a side of sauteed vegetables in olive oil with spaghetti squash, carrots and green beans. I should of taken a photo, but I ate it too quickly. I had a side salad of mixed greens with an olive oil-balsamic vinegar mixture. The next time I go back, I’m getting the large filet, 100%. I’m sure my boyfriend will appreciate it when he’s buying ;)

While I will admit to being a fan of the original Knight’s out on Jackson, I am also a fan of the downtown location. Quite simply: with 8 ounce glass pours and cocktails that are wicked strong, it’s nice to be car-free. While I for a while frequented their happy hour, lately I’ve been really digging lunch, digging into the, um, delicious array of salads created from fresh ingredients! I love Alyssa’s summer salad(add salmon!) and the wedge – pure 1950s yum with better ingredients.(Add chicken!) And the cobb, well, it’s a damn fine cobb. Feeling that 50s thing, then spring for the oversized shrimp cocktail paired with a dirty gin martini. Or whatever you like to drink. Then call a cab.

I was hoping for more. My expectations weren’t through the roof, but I don’t think I will be returning to Knight’s Downtown for a while. Maybe for a burger… I got the black and blue pork chops, which were very good, but it’s hard for something to taste bad when it’s smothered in cheese. Here’s what went wrong. Friday night, so it was busy, naturally. We got seated at one of the six high-tops situated at the front of the restaurant nearest the main entrance. The tables are arranged in such a way that other guest’s tables and seats must be moved in order to move in and out of the seating. Our waitress could hardly get through to take our orders, perhaps that’s why we didn’t see that much of her… Seating problems aside, let’s get to the food. My girlfriend ordered the sirloin. She ordered it medium, but it came out with a deep red(blue) center and 90% of the cut was red. I’ve worked in the restaurant business, that steak was rare. There was really no good sear on the steak to speak of. I look for some nice caramelization on a steak. You know, Maillard reaction. It really wasn’t present on either of the steaks in my party. You can tell that the quality of the beef is much better than the supermarket cuts I cook at home, but I think the meat was under seasoned. A properly prepared steak has no shortage of salt, pepper, butter, and usually herbs. A little more salt would have gone a long way with this steak. The side of redskins is literally two whole redskin potatoes dumped on the plate… a little underwhelming considering the other sides I could have gotten. Go for mashed or fries as a potato side. I assumed they were roasted redskins… maybe that’s my fault, but I don’t think the way they were served was appropriate for a restaurant of that caliber. Let’s sum this up. Cramped seating reminiscent of Fleetwood Diner after last call, undercooked and under seasoned steak, and a sad side of redskins. What was good? The ambiance(minus the crowding), the vegetable side, and the pork chops. I think if I had come here for a burger(at a reasonable price of $ 8.75) I would have given the night 3 – 4 stars. Not tonight though. This was underwhelming and I was disappointed. Sorry Knight’s, I wanted to like you.
