Great location and parking. Relaxed environment. Friendly staff. High end service for a great cost. Definitely going back!

I purchased a Groupon for Four seasons spa and after being unable to contact the company to schedule an appointment Groupon customer service told me that this is the new company name and location and changed my groupon voucher to reflect the new company. However, when i called them to schedule an appointment they advised me that they are not honoring those groupons. I expected better customer service. Working with Groupon now to get a reimbursement.

Not impressed with my massage and their customer service. I’m a first time client and I called last minute to book a 60 minute massage due to some tight shoulders. I was able(thank you!) to easily book an appointment. I was kindly greeted by front desk staff and filled out a form. My massage was for 2PM but was not taken back to the room until 2:05. Maybe they were busy? Or maybe no one paid attention to the time? No one seemed to actually notice — except for me. One I got back to the room my therapist suggested a specific type of massage(I forgot the name but was specific to muscles/pressure points) opposed to my normal deep tissue. I was hesitant but he said he has 26 years of experience so I took his advice. The massage was boring and barely touched my problem areas. It was also freezing in my room. I couldn’t wait for it to end. It finally finished and when asked by the front desk girl how the service went I told her it was fine but the room was freezing. She acted like she couldn’t be bothered with my complaint but only waited for me to pull my credit card out of my wallet so that I could get out of there. I’ll be going back to Balance on the north side of town where the people(and the room/table temperature) are warm.

I’m a terrible massage client. Not only are my muscles like stones, but I’m really hard to please. In fact, most of the time I’m sitting there thinking about how they’re not doing it right(not pressing hard enough, not focusing on the right places, etc). My inner monologue is crazy critical and I don’t have an easy go of relaxing. Seriously, I think I need to get drunk before an appointment just so I can turn my brain off. The rub of it is(pun intended) is that I really, REALLY need regular massages to manage my chronic back pain. So I tend to rove around massage joints looking for relief. Massages for me aren’t relaxing, they’re painful maintenance. On Sunday I was really hurting from carrying around a lot of wedding/work/life stress + the repetitive motion of DIYing some stuff for the wedding. I was whimpering from pain when I saw the Hand & Stone sign as I was driving by and did a cartoon like U-Turn on Maple once my brain processed the«$ 49.95 first massage! Walk-ins Welcome!» slogan I had just read. I can jive with all of that! So I went in. It was 3pm on a Sunday so I knew my chances of a walk in appointment were slim and I was right. However, they were nice enough to book me an appointment for the next day. I took it. I came back 24 hours later and was greeted by some very nice staff and an extremely clean and relaxing waiting room. I was taken to the back by my massage therapist Corinne who checked in with me re: my issues and came up with a game plan for my hour. After some derobing and settling into the heated bed she came back and got to work. I’m not going to lie. During the massage my inner monologue was telling me that it wasn’t hard enough. That she wasn’t working out the knots. That I wasn’t going to leave there feeling satisfied. But somehow, halfway through the session, my brain shut off and I started to feel it. She’s not a tough masseuse like many others that will pop and press my knots into submission. But she’s really effective. Massages, as I mentioned before, can be painful for me because of my issues. But she managed to work out the tension and the knots without it being unbearable. I actually enjoyed it! And I walked out of there feeling looser and more chill than I have in months. I was honest to God shaking when I stood up, and not in a bad way. Since I was in such pain going in I also added the«soothing muscle therapy» to my appointment which is essentially an added massage with a bit of a menthol type gel added into the mix. It felt great and kept my muscles tingling for a good half hour after the appointment. Corinne was also nice enough to give me a small sample to go so I could rub some more on later as necessary. Not sure I’ll add this feature every time but it sure did feel nice! After my massage Corinne offered me some coconut water and the ladies at the front checked me out. I didn’t book a follow up appointment since I’ll be out of town for several weeks next month but I’ll definitely return when the need strikes. They also offer facials and waxing services. My skin is VERY finicky so I’m hesitant to try a facial but I do have a pre-wedding wax scheduled for next week. I’ll update with some info on that as it shakes out.

I went in for an hour facial and a Microdermabrasion. The spa was extremely clean, ambient and well decorated. The lady asked me many questions about my diet, medications and skin care routines. We chatted about this for 15 minutes. When she started the facial, she started recommending different packages and products for my skin. She talked about different uses of products on my skin and talked about it for 40 minutes straight! It was not relaxing at all because I felt like I had to constantly make up excuses or reject her recommendations. I would have been okay with her making recommendations in the end of the procedures… but it was annoying to have someone go off with their sales pitch.

I went in for a massage for their grand opening promotion, and left feeling unbelievable. In a good way. The brand new lobby and space are clean, ambient and welcoming. The person at the receptionist desk was friendly, and was suggestive about their other offerings but wasn’t pushing the sales, which I appreciated. I did have to wait about 10 minutes for my appointment, which cut into my massage time but it was easy to overlook as the massage itself blew me out of the water. Now, onto what(or who) redeemed the entire 45 minutes out of a one hour session– Corrine! Pure hands of magic. I have been searching for an Ann Arbor massage therapist to go to regularly, for four years. I have had so many single visits to so many massage therapists, but 10 minutes in, I knew I had found«the one.» It’s like her hands were communicating with my muscles and body as she was working, it was unreal. She knew and concentrated on my problem areas with the perfect amount of pressure while still making me feel relaxed and in a glorious trance like state. That sweet spot of pleasurable pain– call me a masochist, but I can’t even try to describe the state she put me in. Corrine was very pleasant, gracious and made me feel very comfortable overall, and made my body feel completely rejuvenated. I think it’s easy to tell that Hand & Stone is a brand new business trying to gain its footing, but they have now secured a long term happy customer through making the smart decision of hiring Corrine!

I got a facial on valentines day. The spa was beautifully decorated. Candles and rose petals graced the hallways. I had a nice coconut spa drink in my hand from the moment they said my name as I walked in. everyone was so nice. I really enjoyed every minute. thanks Tonya for the great facial. I’m younger already
