Living in Michigan, it’s challenging to find an Asian stylist. I usually end up traveling to LA or SF for a hair cut. This salon gave me a very nice haircut + styling tips on how to add more volume to my hair. I will likely keep coming here until I graduate. The prices here are VERY reasonable. Just be aware that if you tip with your debit/credit card, you need to tell the stylist BEFORE she swipes your card. There is no place on the receipt to write-in a tip after your card is swiped.

I was struggling for a long time to find the right person to cut my hair. I have thick Asian hair that needs to be blended a certain way, otherwise it’ll stuck out on the sides and look really awkward. I tried Orbit, Nolas, Aveda, New Age Salon, but all of them didn’t quite get it right for my hairtype. I got so frustrated that I asked one of my Korean friends who went to University of Michigan as an undergrad where he got his haircut and he referred me to Jung Mi. I am so glad because in addition to doing a great job with my hair, she also great about scheduling appointments, is super helpful, and is a short 5 minute walk from Central Campus.

Been going here for years. An amazing job each time and amazingly affordable. I’ll be a loyal customer as long as I’m in the area!

Born and raised in the Gangnam district, I have super high standards in terms of hair styling. and I tell you fellow Koreans. this place is safe. cheap, efficient, and recent. I say good choice for Asians in AA.

I was in town and needed a hair cut. I try to avoid stylists that are inexperienced in cutting Asian hair: they tend to use only straight scissors and skip the necessary«thinning.» This woman was a mess. Her salon was a hole in the wall with unclean working areas. She was scattered and seemed to be on edge. When she washed my hair, she only wetted about 2/3rds of it, barely ran her fingers through it and called it good. Her cutting style was erratic and sloppy: the actual cut only lasted 10 minutes when it usually takes about 30 minutes(and in some nicer salons I’ve been to in Japan and Korea, longer). I was afraid for most of the haircut. My hair wasn’t terrible but the stress of being with this woman and having a mediocre cut means I will never go back. After the experience I met a friend of mine who married a Korean woman. When I asked him if his wife had ever been to see this woman he said, «No. She avoids her at all costs.» It seems she has a reputation.

After an extended stay in Taiwan during the summer of my sophomore year of college, I realized that my thick Asian hair could be cut in a way that didn’t look like a bowl cut(something that I always hated about my hair). Unfortunately, I discovered that it was really hard to find anyone in the US who knew how to cut hair the way they did abroad. While the Aveda institute was a good place to go and had decent prices(I went here throughout my college career), it was a pain to find a good student and haircuts took about an hour. I stuck with two Aveda students until they graduated but it took them a while to learn how to cut my hair the way I liked and then they relocated to places where I could not follow them. My brother told me about this mysterious little hair salon near his apartment. I wish I had found this place before I moved, the hair stylist knew what she was doing and had my hair cut within 30 mins. She just used the thinning shears to remove the bulk of my hair and it grew out really nicely. Price was below $ 25 and was within walking distance. Just make sure you call ahead to make an appointment they have odd hours. Great little gem of a place!
